I am 77 years old so grew up in the Rock 'n' Roll era but it doesn't matter how old you are this is one of the best modern Rock 'N' Roll performances you are ever likely to see.
My name is Guillermo Warrell. I'm from Argentina, maybe very far from the Anglo-American culture, but every time I see in this video the faces of satisfaction of Harrison, Clapton, Ringo, as well as the excitement of Carl Perkins, I can't help it, and I cry
This was a huge, tremendously huge hit for Elvis in the mid 50's. It was many years later that I found out that his was only a cover version of this song. The royalties alone that Carl Perkins recieved from the Elvis cover made him a very wealthy man.
I'm 77 & agree. I got a kick out of Clapton getting down & rockin while he plays, but so his George. They both seemed really enjoy playing with The Great Carl Perkins.
They were having such a good time, they did not want it to end! One of the best tributes ever!! Way to go Carl, George, Eric, Dave, Roseanne and everyone else!!
young folks have no idea..where Rock and Roll started.....George, Eric C, Carl Perkins especially...all the artists grew up on this stuff..... could kick every band!!!...rock and roll actually made people dance,,, the best of music
How in the hell have I never seen this before. George looks like he did in 1963-64 on stage just having a hell of a time. What a All star cast. I hope the full concert is on tape somewhere . Wow just outstanding. George loved Perkins music and it shows
This is a one of Performance.... They are all in best shape here... Clapton's Solo guitar, adding George Harrison sounding excellent on guitar and vocals. Dave Edmunds THE Rockabilly producers who is a fantastic singer in his own way and also a guitar legend. AND of course Carl Perkins who is the father here playing and singing with so much joy... here he got what he truly deserved. Making music with some of the greatest musicians that honor his talent and songs. It gets no better than this....👍👍👍
s.When is the last time you saw audience on the same level as the band. And give the big star hugs...? These people were having a ball, nothing phony, hardly rehearsed. Just get up there and jam like the pros they are. Love it!
Great video thanks. All those great musicians' on stage paying tribute to a Rock and Roll mentor. The great Carl Perkins can never receive enough accolades.
That's down to his fans and the fact that he didn't really do anything commercial except blue suede shoes, which was copied by others, then later the beatles covered some of his lesser known song's, this brought attention to his name again, then johnny cash a friend of his let him tour with him, all this kept him going and his name " out there" If you listen to the 3 or 4 singles he released after blue suede shoes it becomes pretty obvious why he quickly faded away, they just weren't that good and were dated. By mid 1956 Rockabilly was all but dead and a harder rock and roll music was the order of the day
This concert is such a joy to watch and you see in George, Dave , Ringo, Eric and so many others so much intense listening and playing to these records and Carl is so much their hero, someone who can rock out and deliver, no problems. George so much worships Carl.
This radiates joy from everyone , this is what George loved to do in his later years jam with friends , he loved Carl and vice versa; Apart from the Hamburg days he is having more fun here than he did with the Beatles.
This is first I've learned of this. This is like a dream concert. Did all these amazing artists show up out of respect for Carl Perkins? Good on them. Yeah for Carl! People are forgetting him, a little, but he's in the pantheon who invented Rock and Roll.
If there was one single person who would have got George Harrison back up on a stage it was Carl Perkins. This whole show was stupendous, that was one lucky studio audience.
I'll catch hell for this but I have to disagree. I think in some respects he might be overrated. IMO the the best guitar solo in the Beatles catalog is Paul's rip on "Taxman." Harrison wasn't much of an improviser..at all. He painstakingly created his solos. On the other hand, I think he was the PERFECT guitarist for the Beatles. He wasn't bluesy at all and he brought more of a rockabilly style that kept the Beatles from being just another R&B act. I love George and his playing is iconic and recognizable. I'll add that I hate his slide playing.
@@ToddCiehomski Paul is my all time favorite musician. He can pretty much do anything. Taxman is definitely 1of my favorite solos...it’s so Paul. My favorite solo(s) would have to be The End with John, Paul, & George battling it out in their distinctive styles. I still maintain that George is criminally underrated. IMO this is due to the fact that he was never flashy but there’s a beauty in his playing that’s refreshing.
@@ToddCiehomski oddly, it's his slide playing for its precision, and his meticulously constructed, melodic solos that I most admire. Instead of just improvising, as you noted, scales that every skilled musician knows, he carefully put together solos specific to those songs, such that anything played differently sounds out of place. When it comes to beautiful, melodic and sonically perfect guitar solos made for a song, the only guys I think of immediately are Don Felder, and the undisputed master of the melodic solo, David Gilmour. As for George being overrated or underrated, I think he's right where he should be. A legend, not the greatest but in the top tier, inducted twice into the Hall of Fame, when that accolade was still meaningful. My go-to underrated guitarist is Lindsey Buckingham, with Martin Barre, Richard Thompson and Mick Ronson as honorable mentions.
I've tuned this in many times and it never lets me down,IMO, because these guys are having fun doing what they love and son of a gun, they're da*mn good at what they do without smoke or stage sets of other "add-ons".. just straight ahead rock n roll. So glad they got this one recorded.
New found respect for George Harrison. He knew every chord and riff and word of old rockabilly songs by Carl. Ringo also and Dave Edmunds. What a band.
This is a little masterpiece of a show and it couldn’t have gotten any better! He had it all with him: several legends he influenced and had the utmost pleasure of sharing the stage with that great man, Carl Perkins! We love him yeah, yeah, yeah!
I like the songs of Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash and the former, to me, was the father of Rock and Roll. RIP the pioneers of rock and roll. You are always on my mind!
Thank you for the correction and additional on Slim Jim; Stray Cats awesome also! This night with Carl and all these all-stars is so special, love listening and watching whole concert. Hey at 2:07 is that a stretcher they're wheeling onto stage or camera. One of them dancers took a spill perhaps. l8r
Unless everbody was wearing exactly the same clothes a month later (October 1985), this is actually a clip from a televised concert that was taped live at Limehouse Studios in London, England on 21 October 1985. The show featured rock n' roll pioneer Carl Perkins along with friends as guest stars, including Eric Clapton, former Beatles George Harrison and Ringo Starr, as well as Dave Edmunds who acted as musical director for the show. Most of the repertoire performed in the concert consisted of Perkins' classic rockabilly songs from the 1950s. It was the first public performance by George Harrison in more than ten years. ~Blue Suede Shoes: A Rockabilly Session
It's truly a shame that they cut this when they did. Showing homage to Carl Perkins, George and Eric and Dave all kept the "Shoes" dancin' for quite awhile. You can see Carl starting to well up in this piece. He went full out from the love everyone showed him. Carl Perkins was THE rockabilly founder and King. Get the video of this if you don't have it. George and Eric loved each other like brothers.

Perkins, Clapton and Harrison... What a concert.
Rock n Roll will be around forever. Nice to see Johnny Cash's daughter Rozanne there. R.I.P. CARL & GEORGE.

Great to see Carl get recognition from all those guys. Paul McCartney was quoted saying if it wasn’t for Carl Perkins the Beatles would’ve never been.
Yes , that was the time that there still was REAL music !
it's amazing the first rockers are still liked by so many, that tells you how good they were.
By light years, the best opening to any rock n roll song ever! Well it’s one for the money….!
That's the happiest I've ever seen George .....ever ...and l wish l was there .....
Honestly....anything with Clapton in it,i love.
Sadly, you are missing the big picture here

All these rock legends together jamming and not ruining the song or each other
