Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. Thank you for being here with us for cabin life, van life and all the in between!

Looks great! Things to add (from experience) a container to keep out mice from extra toilet paper and a bucket of ash from campfire. Once a week, throw three cups down the hole at once and close the lid (to prevent ash from billowing up in your outhouse) and it cuts the smells down and aids in decomp.

    • @chasgs

LYE a bucket of lye aids in decomposing waste and will eliminate the smell and install a magazine rack and a small battery or hand-crank radio for the day after bad sushi!,hmm solar powered exhaust fan?

This has changed my standard of outhouses forever wow - that is so impressive! Definitely taking notes from you both every week for my 'someday home'. Thank you for being such incredible role models of sustainability, healthy LGBTQIA+ relationships, and self-sufficient women (which of course includes boundaries and knowing when to ask for help). My mood on Sundays has substantially improved since I found your account last summer. I genuinely don't think I would feel the way I do now about my life without your content. Truly, thank you so much for documenting this journey for us!! 🥰

The outhouse looks great. My favorite part of watching you at the cabin is obviously the incredible transformation, but really it’s watching you build this stuff. Middle of the night visits to the outhouse we’re never fun especially if you have an active imagination 😆. I would cover the top end of the stink pipe with screening so no little critters come down the pipe.

I discovered you wonderful ladies first thing this morning and I have been binge watching you all day. I spent two years in Mexico so I loved your van life videos there. Then I moved on to your cabin project and was truly amazed at what you have accomplished. Definitely a very challenging megaproject in every sense and you are both proving just how talented you are. Hi Ladies to enhance the protection of the bug hats, put a ball cap or a "bucket" hat on first and the bug screen over that. This protects the top of your head from bites and the visor lifts the screen away from your face. More like a bee keepers head gear. Nice job on the outhouse. Tom at the NB-NS border.

Raise the water storage tank up to the gutter and then the water will have its own pressure.
Make sure there are no holes in the outer shell so as to keep the mice and voles from nesting in your insulation.

The determination to accomplish whatever task you both choose to do is inspiring! My 14 year old daughter laughs at me because I’ve been following you all, I’m 53. My beloved daughter has so much to learn, girl power being the most important!
I learned so much on the road, in a van. Every summer our family would go exploring. We had an old XPlorer Dodge camper. My Dad used it as his normal commute to work vehicle all year, but in the summer, we went exploring...everywhere, in Canada and the USA. When I was younger, we lived CA. At that time we and a VW Bus- pop up Camper. So many wonderful memories of trips with another family into Mexico. 2 families, both in VW Bus Campers, each with 2 children- each, in Baha, Mexico in the 1970’s. Getting stuck in the sand, pulling each other out... So many funny memories.... I was little, but I ment so me. We would meet other kids, we didn’t speak the same language, but we figured it out, made new friends and had so much fun. Such wonderful memories! Your content is great! My daughter and 2 sons have so much to learn. I’ve gotten so caught up in daily suburban life, that I haven’t exposed them to life on the road. I wonder why? Regardless, your content has inspired me! The kids and I will definitely be planning a trip soon! Thank you!

Vanwives, Outhouse...Nice!!! Here in Maine, our outhouse has a secret odor solution, cheap and easy...we use knee highs
and moth balls...moth balls inside the knee highs and we hang them up by the rafter near the vent...it keeps the pesky critters
from digging around the building...we also use moth ball crystals around our hedge and garden veggies & plants to maybe keep skunks & deer away...Cheers from Maine

Pro Tip: In order to avoid time wasting trips back to the store in the middle of your project purchase a little more material than you think you need. You can take back all your overages at the end of the project or the next time you find yourself going back to the store for something else without having to stop in the middle of your project and as an added bonus you'll save money on gas. Also just want to say the outhouse looks great! PS. I'm so excited for you having your first poo in your new outhouse. 💩🤗😂

The two of you did an amazing job on the Outhouse. I love the sink on the outside. My niece and her partner went to the Indy Pride Parade and granny tagged along with them. LOL! We all had a great time. I love the way the two of you are doing your videos now. I like real life videos. Thanks for sharing and tell Izzy and Bella hello for me.

Brilliant must be the most used word description of your channel! I myself, find that the end of each video comes way to fast and leaves me wanting more! You’re both so likeable and real that whatever you all do is a joy to watch and I think we all are delighted to have found you! I myself came when you babysat Occy!

You two are a joy for this old man 76 years young to watch. You are enjoying making memories for your future. Thank you for bring us all along with you on the many phases of your journey. One suggestion that I would make, and do feel free to skip over this if it does not fit with your ideas. The suggestion is this.
    You live in the NORTH.
Your home is wide open at the bottom, or at the very least it looks that way.
Have you had any thoughts about closing the space under the house in? My wife and I have been out in our RV in cold weather, and even though we have some insulation under it, the floors are like ICE, that constantly reminds us that we NEED to do something to stop the wind from blowing under the rig. You But it is your home, and you may have addressed this already, or at least have given it some thought.

You should put the vent pipe threw the roof of the out house and put the vent pipe in the outhouse bench so the smell can come up that way

Girls, my Pop taught me when buying at hardware/construction stores always buy extra. If doing any trade buy any thing you might need. Buy once...Return once. Keeps a crew working on the job! It was a good lesson.🎺
