Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. After sharing about the toilet numerous times on our channel we knew it wouldn’t be right to not share what actually happened. Again, this is our experience and we hope it happens to no one else. It’s wild that they would demand you take content down when you paid for the toilet yourselves! If it was a freebie I’d completely understand that, but them demanding a paying customer not complain about their company is pure bullying.

And to hold your refund or property ransom
it would NEVER be ok for a company to demand that a user of their product LIE to the public even IF it was a "freebie", especially considering that a "freebie" is usually given specifically to get a User Review, or even to "Beta-test" a product that the company is still tweaking the design of in order to correct any flaws.
The only situation where a company has any say whatsoever in how their product is portrayed or discussed by ANYONE is when they enter a contract to create advertising material, or to disseminate advertising material.
This is why advertising agencies get hundreds of thousands, if not *millions* of dollars to create material that gets consumers to buy their product. my general rule of thumb is that the more expensive the advertising is, the more wary of the product i should be!
I would take Crystal and Jazmyn's advice on what products are good or bad to use over some "social media influencer" opinion, any day of the week! they have EARNED my trust.

Ladies, I am a business owner, the path you had to travel to get to the end point you, and frankly most people would desire to arrive at, a working toilet, was deplorable from a business standpoint. In future, if you have to deal with a company, it's best to communicate only by email. That way, if you ultimately have to sue, you have a paper trail.
She's right a paper trail is very useful and almost necessary. Email counts as a paper trail too. You can also send a letter or email after a phone call the reiterate what was discussed on the phone.
I Always said to my wife (ex) from the 90's on that I won't deal with a company without a website and email address for this very reason.
@gblakev exactly, after a phone call, I always ask for an email confirming what was discussed over the phone. I sometimes stay on the phone while they type out and send the email.

Customer service is EVERYTHING.
Maintenance is too complicated and expensive. A weekly chore that would become ridiculously burdensome after about the third week.

We are appalled over Cinderella's lack of professionalism and common sense. A company who will not stand behind their product is not a company we want to deal with. "You're supposed to do the right thing . Why? Because it's the right thing to do." Shame on you Cinderella!

Just wanna tell you ladies again how much I am proud of you and you should be proud of yourselves. I know in the younger years in our lives was a struggle and is a struggle. However, you meeting each other and going on this life adventure has been a phenomenal chapter in both of your lives, as I told my daughter and her partner who is 30 and they just moved to Alaska from California I am so happy for them that they are both on the same wavelength. They both communicate there’s always gonna be positive and negative, but at least the honesty and the integrity of both of you and your partnership is a beautiful thing to watch❤😊

I live in a tiny house, on wheels, and have the Separett Tiny. I love it. There is some maintenance of course but you get used to it. My builder installed it for me so I didn’t have to go through that. In the 6 months I have had it I have had no problems at all!

Aside from the not working part, the high energy requirements and the high maintence requirements strikes this type of toilet off our possibilities list. (We are already older.) All the websites, brochures, and sales people only talk about how easy and clean incinerating toilets are. Not!

I had considered buying one for a project but not any longer, your experience with Customer Service was bad enough but the number of on-going process steps. I think when it comes to toilets the thought that you would need to contact Customer Service is just weird to me. Another helpful & informative video!

Bad customer service is unacceptable, and asking you to remove content showing your truth, is awful. Hiding a problem ‘under the rug’ is not the way to run a business! Fix the toilet design instead! Again, I hold you two in high esteem. Being brave to share the complete story has only heightened my good opinion of you both. Thank you. 🙏. (Btw, I lived with a composting toilet for a few years. It is good to see the improvements that have been made. 👍)
I totally understand!! When I move to Fairbanks AK every spring for work (March-September/October) I rent a dry cabin and have to use an outhouse. It’s such a change after having a flush toilet at home to an outhouse. I have a mental adjustment every spring!

Based on all I have seen up until this point, even outside of this video, you were being generous to the Cinderella people.
Applause for the cabin retailer who made things right!
When drilling in crystalline material, like your cement coating or plaster or fibercement, you need a carbide hole saw. Then switch back to a regular hole saw for wood and light metal. For tile you need a diamond saw. I have a separate tool box in my truck with over 40 hole saws so I always have the correct type and size.
As previous comments have mentioned, high water table septic systems are available. When you start making plans for your new next door build pick one of the many septic options. Porter can make it happen for you which ever style you go with.

@@Vanwives When looking at septic systems, look at aerobic systems. These don't need a leach field and are suitable for places with high water table and rocky ground.
This is an actual horror story. Going by their instructions you would actually come out cheaper with installing a septic system if you count price of toilet,bags getting it steamed & having to pay the gas people weekly. I'm unsure of prices there where I am it's 10 to 50k for septic. I'm so happy you found a better for you system. Always stand up for yourself it sure sounds like a headache. Sending you both love ❤

For your new installation, are you planning on insulating your drain pipes under the cabin? I'd be a bit concerned about freezing temperatures, particularly at the drain trap and the transfer of cold air into the building via the pipe.
I have never installed a $6,000 dollar toilet. Nor would I ever run a gas line to a plastic toilet for any of my customers. Great explanation and long awaited video😊

If you have a vent system for odors and drying, you need to provide air for the vent. The vent system will suck out heat in the winter and cooling in the summer. Make up air is a must.
We have used the your new toilet for years. They are awesome.
A little vinegar down the pee port every once in a while keeps the tubing clear.

The poop doesn’t actually dry out but it’s neither here nor there. We don’t even bother with the bags anymore. They didn’t compost very well. Also, Canadian tire has a long wire handle brush, you’ll want to pick one up and trim the bristles so they fit in the pee tube and use it to clean occasionally. The urine builds up. But nothing to break down and you’ll be so much happier with this one!

(Literally working while watching) BABES, when I tell you I was itching to help when you were describing the customer service experience. I’m glad yall got a full refund because I would have emailed them myself. They were trying to save their image which is not acting in good faith of their customer. This looks like a great toilet option. Much better than the ‘composting’ kind. Those are too small for regular use and don’t actually allow for the material to get composted, and then they’re a lot of work to clean out and change over the coir. This way you can fit more 💩 and dry it out/have no smell and then easily dispose of or compost in a proper humanure pile if you have land like you guys. Wish I’d had something like this in my van instead of the natures head.

I’m so sorry about your experience with Cinderella. we changed from a Separett to Cinderella about 4 years ago in our cabin here in Sweden. Separett which we had about 10 years worked well but the pop definitely doesn’t dry out and has to stay in the bucket for some months before digging it into ground. We can also have it collected by the garbage company. Cinderella works like a dream just a little bit of ashes to throw out, no pop no smiles no limits on how often it gets used per hour. Never heard of that before. I wonder if you got a faulty Cinderella I’m so sorry they have kept your money😊. I hope this is of use to your followers . The Separett has a blue table that is put lying in front where the pee goes ,it dissolves when pouring the water in to flush after peeing.
You girls did a great job explaining your experience the the toilet. Give true reviewson your interaction with the company, and the product they sold you.
Please keep all your information, and footage. As i have a feeling you may need it. When the company realizes how bad they messed up. Your followers are not shy about tell people what you have on your channel.

I feel your pain. I have to use a 'composting' toilet. However, my landlord doesn't want composted waste on her property, and can't afford a pump station to her septic tank. Therefore, I put a garbage bag in this $1000 toilet and multiple bag it on trash pickup day, and send a week's 6 pound worth to the landfill. I do sprinkle a scoop of hydrated lime on the waste after every use. After seven years here, the novelty of the situation has waned.
The PVC pipe: the thin stuff is DWV (drain, waste, and vent) and the thick stuff is Schedule 40.
Good afternoon ladies. Some 30 years ago i had researched the incinerator toilet products and had concluded that they had some shortcomings, so i passed on that style. When you came up with the idea of installing one i would have recommended that you change your minds had i been able to do so . Water under the bridge now i know. I hope that you have better luck with this new one. There is one more thing that you need to do up in the attic to prevent problems in the colder part of the year if you will be here at the cabin during the winter . The plastic vent pipe needs insulated to prevent the moisture from condensing and running back down into the toilet. This only happens where a pipe passes through a cold zone, like the attic. You could wrap pipe insulation around the pipe if you have clearance to do so An other way woukd be to use 1 in pink foam board to make a 3 sided cover over the pipe where it lays on the floor. Use red tuck tape to fasten the pink foam together. Easy to do. And cheap. Have a nice day. Tom in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border.
Great to see the honesty about the toilet and how you went about all of the attempts made to solve the problems. You should have not had to go through all of the hoops to solve the problems that did not happen. Hopefully the new system will work flawlessly. It truly is a bad situation when a company does not stand behind their products.

Thank you for the honest review. I was considering buying the product, but I've noticed that all the reviews I've seen seem too good to be true. Usually, when something seems that way, it is. Now that I've seen your review that mentions the cons, I feel more informed. Strangely, no one wants to list the cons, as everything has them. Personally, I don't mind cons as long as I know about them beforehand. I've also noticed that you're not the only one complaining about their customer service.
