Love it!! Awesome playing!Really enjoyed the history lesson too man!! I thought I knew Kings history. I own a '67 2B Liberty and it does have 'Liberty' on the bell btw but I think some later 60's 2B dropped it. Sent mine off to BAC and had it completed restored and customized but I did keep the hand engraving on the bell. It plays and looks amazing! I love the sound of Kings! The dual bore slide makes the horn easier to play and more responsive imo. I currently play with an old Schilke 42 mouthpiece but I'm interested in trying out some new ones. Have you ever tried a JC Custom mouthpieces?? Thanks for all your hard work and awesome content!!
I also have a beautiful King Liberty 2B that my parents bought for me (used) in 1966 when I was in high school. It came with the original King M21 mouthpiece, and a black faux crocodile case. I love the response of this horn even though I'm still such an amateur. I had it reconditioned in 2004, and still love the juxtaposition of the silver slide and brass bell. I do have to say I've changed from the King M21 mouthpiece to a Yamaha 46B which I have become more comfortable with. I've loved your videos over the years, Paul - all of 'em !!!
That’s a dazzling horn for sure. I happen to have the Jiggs as my main Axe (7 years nearly) and though I haven’t played a liberty I can say definitely check it out, it’s light as a feather. The uppers are great, slotting is sometimes tricky bc of how responsive it is, but I love it and it’s easy to get used to. Low range is great, I use a larger Giddings mouthpiece in it, the Harry Watters model.
The sound is even in all registers. I love that classic King sound. A lot of small-bore horns kind of "back up" in the lower register, but this one does not.
I picked up a 2B (1949 model) over 30 years ago. Was just looking for a small bore tenor and found it for a great price. Just had the slide worked on a couple months ago. Love that horn! I'm no professional but I do agree with everything you said about it.
You sound beautiful as usual! The King 2B has a 'sound' and feel, and it's working for you for sure. Dumbest thing I ever did was sell a '50's vintage HN White 2B Liberty about 25 years ago.....but!...I just picked up a late '50's 2B SilverSonic Sterling bell in great shape!!!! After a few days, I'm in love all over again and excited about the feel and sound for me of the King. They are special horns if they suit you as a player. Keep up the great work as usual, and thanks for all your efforts in the trombone/music world!
I bought one of these not long ago for a little over 300$ 😁 it was a 1950 liberty model. I dearly love it. I’m not as good as I should be at my age, but that horn makes me sound better than I deserve.
Oh you sound amazing on this horn above all. As a bass trombonist who loves Kings, I especially appreciated the easy, sharp attacks and full sound in the lower register. Super responsive. I wonder if indeed this has become a principal player for you. Thank you for all you do!
Sounds great man. You are a great horn player. I have played the Jiggs Whigham for the last 20 years for lead playing and just love King horns. 2b, 3b, 4b all great but Jiggs Whigham is just so much fun.
I played on a dual bore 2b light weight before it was called a Jiggs Whigham model back in 1980. bought a new 2b in .491 bore. Crazy as it sounds I found a Conn Pan American from 1952 that plays better than my King. I have 5 others of that model and they are all dogs. Just shows, every horn is different. I have the new 3B Silver sonic and it is a great horn for concert band.
@@PaulTheTrombonist I prefer the standard yellow brass character. Both in playing and listening. But a good horn always beats a bad one no matter specs! Tried one of Tony L's 3B SS and it was super!
You sound great on this trombone. I imagine that it took a few minutes to adjust to the horn’s unique characteristics? Great lead horn. I prefer how you sounded on the 3B - a fuller, darker sound, but very versatile. I mentioned a comparison to an Urbie Green model Martin on the 3B demo.
Hey Paul, you must have a vault of near perfect condition horns! I have no idea where you find then. As for that 2B ... what a beautiful classic sound. It looked exciting to play and you really suited it. I am definately enjoying the channel and your increasing archive of instrument reviews will help many both in what they sound like and what players should aspire to. Thanks.
Hi, I am interesting in buy an old king Tempo 2b, but I have a doubt. Do you tink the horn may be affected because it was re-niquel plated? Personaly I prefer the horns with it's original niquel no matter if it doesn't look good aesthetically, but I have heard people saying the Re-niquel process affect the sound. Thanks, and sorry my english is not good
2b is my favorite all time🍖…. I play one so I am bias…., response and sound is tops for jazz. That said, I’d like to hear you demonstrate a Bach 16 M and give us your thoughts on that one. Nice play, Paul. Us 🍖 heads appreciate you so much.
Thank's brother ! The video is very helpful. If you don't mind, can you review bach trombone 36 or stradivarius 42 because I'm so curious about the sound ! Thank's 🙏🏻🤘🏻
No doubt about it, the 2B is a great horn, so is the 2B+. The Bach 12 is a great horn as well. It would be great to hear a playing demo of the small Bach horns. Your videos are wonderful Paul.
Paul, it has been nice to see you play the real "classic" vintage trombones. Now that you are down to the King 2B, are you planning to play something bigger (Bach 36 (Jimmy Knepper) or the Olds Opera (Curtis Fuller & Bill Pearce))?
Hey Paul, I’ve been thinking about purchasing a 2b lately. Do you have any suggestions on what era I should get? Also, what is the difference between silversonic/tone, and just a regular 2b?
Great question , I’d go somewhere you can try them all and see which one resonates with you most. A lot of players really like the HN White era (pre 1965) but I’ve heard the other ones are good too. Every person and instrument is totally unique. I’ve actually never played a silver sonic yet. I hope to get one here on the show so I can compare for you.
Thanks , why don't u play on this more do u have something with bac horns ,, just wondering ,, oh why did Bill W. Find these horns not to his liking to put it easy .
@@PaulTheTrombonist I play a similar one, 1947 that was my grandfathers. Alligator skin case for it that is full of stickers he got at stadiums playing in marching band back then

Your playing on this trombone sounds so good. Very clear tone and super accurate fast parts. I can understand why it is a new favourite for you.

Jiggs 2B is really a nice horn! If you have not played one, do it soon. Love mine.
Jimmy Pankow of Chicago played the King 2B and King 3B Silversonic models.
