First time I went to the Dominican Republic by myself, I took a wrong turn somewhere as I was driving to Santiago. All I remember was that I was on highway 13 according to Google maps. This video has to be the closest one I've found to what I drove through. Thankfully I made it and a nice person helped me out.

Love this video. Reminds me of the times when I traveled down to DR and used to go from Santo Domingo to Santiago and even further to Puerto Plata by car cruising on the Autopista Duarte or the Duarte Highway and seeing the beautiful countryside.

It was very refreshing to see something different from the usual city tours .. they're great of course, but as we're used to say - if you have seen one of them, you've seen them all. So I hope to see more about Dominican country life and Nature in the future 👍✌

how do i get to these places as someone who does not have family in Dominican Republic where could i stay & do i need to have a car it looks so peaceful 🙏🏾

    • @PurelyWalking
      @PurelyWalking  Год назад

yes, you might need a car to get to places like this. If dont have family here I would recommed an eco Lodge, such as Valle Fresco Eco Lodge up in the mountains, or Dominican Tree House Village. But the best way to get the most genuine country life experience is getting a friend who can take you.

Terrible production value. Every time you start speaking, the volume level goes down. Then, when you stop, that awful disco music comes in at a higher volume level! I appreciate your showing people the Dominican back country, but I quit watching after about five minutes.

@@PurelyWalking I regret the harsh tone of my comment. After watching a number of videos shot in the DR, most of which seemed focused on nightlife in the city or on the beach, I found yours, which takes viewers out to the countryside. And yes, I was a little frustrated by the time I found your video, and unfortunately ended up dumping that frustration on you.
So, let me start over. First of all, I really appreciate your intention. As I'm sure you're aware, a lot of men from the US and elsewhere in Gringolandia go to places like the Dominican Republic looking for loose women and cheap thrills. By and large, they stay near the tourist-friendly areas because they don't speak Spanish and don't respect the local culture. As I said above, a number of YT videos seem to cater to that sort of tourist. I skimmed through quite a few of those videos yesterday, and they all seemed more or less alike in that they were shot in-camera, with no editing, no scripting, just random blahblahblah. (I should point out here that I know how to create good video product, having been trained by professionals a long time ago, but earn my living from other skills.)
Then I found yours, which seemed to me to have a different approach. You clearly know and love the DR and its culture, and it seems to me that your motivation is to show people the pristine beauty of the interior. So I started watching in earnest. But after enduring a couple sonic blasts from the background music you selected, I just kinda boiled over, hence my nasty comment. For the record, I am on the lookout for a quiet place to retire to that has beaches, mountains, and tropical fruits. Having seen a bit of the world, I know that such places abound--one finds them pretty much everywhere within thirty degrees either side of the Equator--but I would like to stay close to my extended family in the States.
Please keep making videos; I'll keep watching, but will try to keep my nastiness to myself.... And you have a new subscriber in me.

@@carlgradolph9676 thanks for your sincerity, I really appreciate it. You're completely right, my love for the DR is exactly what motivates my channel!
If you're looking for mountains, DR has two main cities you can look into: Jarabacoa and Constanza. If you want beaches (not the resort type, but more of a bohemian place), I suggest looking at Las Terrenas and the Samaná province as a whole.
With the regards to the blasts of music, any tips to make this better would be very welcome!
By the way, this is a video I shot in Las Terrenas, before I even showed my face on the channel: ruclips.net/video/D3Ci9URbeEQ/видео.html

@@PurelyWalking Sssssh--Don't tell anybody, or the vultures will ruin those places too!
Just kidding.... Eurocentric people have been despoiling pristine exotic places for the past two millennia, but there may yet be a few quiet spots where quality of life can be had by those of moderate means who are willing to stray off the beaten track and do without the trappings of so-called 'civilization' like cheeseburgers, SUV's and central air conditioning. Speaking of Eurocentric people, let me aver that, even though I have neither blue eyes nor blond hair, my heritage is almost completely British and Northwest European peasant stock, so people who want to call me gabacho, gringo, guero, etc. have every right to do so.
Having called out a few other RUclipsrs for what I deemed to be their less-than-spectacular videography skills while claiming to be such an expert (though never proving myself by releasing my own work), I am hereby announcing that before I criticize anybody else's videos, I really should make and share some of my own. Trouble is, my interests are a bit esoteric.... Like, who would want to watch a video telling them that Euclid's Geometry, Pythagoras' eponymous Theorem, Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, Pascal's Triangle, Leibniz and Newton's Calculus and so many other milestones of European high culture are ALL ultimately derived from Vedic civilization (from centers of learning located in cities and towns in present-day Afghanistan, India and Pakistan)? I know. Like, yawn.... Besides, it's already been done.
For the record, my first paid videography gig was a wedding video shot at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson, Arizona sometime in the mid-to-late 1980's. I never received a copy of that video, but the original may still exist somewhere.... One detail I recall is that the bride got so nervous just as she was taking her vows that she vomited into a pool of water at the base of a man-made stone waterfall. And I, as second cameraman, captured that tender moment for all posterity. Over the next ten years or so, I crewed for, directed and/or produced thousands of videos, mostly at a now-extinct public access TV station. (The movie Wayne's World, which I have never watched, came out in 1992 or so.) Additionally, I worked on a half-dozen independent films that likely never received a wide audience; as far as I know, none of that rich body of work exists today. (There were also at one time not a few minutes' footage of me in front of a camera, posing, acting, or performing my own original music, but hopefully that has ALL disappeared.) So I have only my own testimony to prove that I did what I did. Thanks again for sharing your video of the upcountry of the Dominican Republic. After subscribing to your channel, I discovered that there are quite a number of other videos, and in the coming weeks I will be checking them out, but from now on I promise to keep my snotty opinions to myself.
To respond to your kind request for some tips, a few pointers: In my training, it was imparted to me that a good rule of thumb for filmmakers and videographers is that for every one minute of final product, one hour of raw footage is needed. That doesn't take into consideration the time spent writing scripts, making storyboards, editing raw footage, recording (and re-recording) audio tracks, seeking out costumes and other props, or doing background research. Many people have told me that quality product can be made in-camera in one take, and I'm not gonna argue the point, but I will state my conviction that high-quality work requires intense, sustained effort. At the very least, It's a good idea to shoot way more than you need, then shoot some more, then prepare yourself for many hours of grueling toil in an editing booth, then spend a few more hours shooting more footage to supplement that (or replace the stuff you already shot but accidentally deleted). But, before you even pick up the camera, it's important to sit back and brainstorm about who will be watching your video and what message you'd like them to take away after it's over.
Obviously, there are RUclipsrs who get away with less; some of them apparently have thousands or even millions of followers, and all they do is try out crappy stuff they bought on Amazon (or got for free as social influencers) or comment on video games, current events, social trends, celebrity gossip, or other timely (hence easily forgotten) topics. Or just wander around their backyards doing stupid stuff with a GoPro on their heads.... The take-away is that you never know who'll be watching, and you never have a second chance to make a first impression, so it's a good idea to put your best foot forward by presenting the best work you're capable of producing. At the very least, do this: After you've crafted what you think is a final cut of your video, put it away somewhere and go think about something else. Then, after a few days of gestation, go back and watch and listen to the whole thing with fresh eyes and ears, and ask yourself how it could be better. (Or shorter, which is often the same thing....) Remember (or look up) these lines from Hamlet:
"Brevity is the soul of wit."
      and
      "More matter, less art."
Now you know what a lazy hypocrite I am for not following my own advice!
