Love it Ellie and so true! I am English and have lived here for 23 years, many people from outside have such a fantasy about what life is like here and the reality does not always fit with their dreams! I LOVE living here and feel very Dominicanizado but it has taken a while to get used to the ´quirks´. Love ypur videos and keep going!

As a born and raised Dominican I can say this is all true. Every time I go back it takes me a day or so to get comfortable driving. The smaller towns are much better but still.
The list could be longer!
Anyway, we appreciate that you are giving our piece of the island a try. I hope you find enough good things to stick around, and hopefully the younger generations will eventually alleviate so many things that need to be fixed.
It used to be a lot worse, except for traffic.

Actually, the most dangerous condition is Moto-Conchos cutting thru the middle of traffic and not obeying traffic signals. A family member was nearly struck by one of these motorbikes going at least 40mph thru the middle of traffic and going thru a red light.

If people get into your business it's because you let them. you need to let them know politely your business is yours and theirs.

El problema es que aqui la gente se mete aun uno poniendo limites. Es parte de su cultura. Aqui hasta por uno vestirse bien hay gente que se lo toma como una agresion a ellos. No es cuestion de poner limites, es que una parte de la poblacion tiene graves problemas y se meten con gente que no se esta metiendo con ellos y no respetan limites.

the only thing that makes me hesitate moving there is the Tarantulas, its like fighting with the devil himself lol everything else i can handle.
Ive NEVER Seen a tarantula here! Who told you there were so many tarantulas here? We actually have big cockroaches, those are the biggest insects that you may see on the regular
@PurelyWalking one guy told me they got big spiders on the island some near jarabojoa and la Vega 😳 the countryside may have more I was told that's one reason I avoided the countryside when I'm there. One in particular the Hispaniola tarantula uses its back to spray hairs at people they encounter.
There are no tarántulas there. Those are cacatas, and they are harmless. They are big and scary looking but they eat all the annoying bugs. So don't let that scare you away.

@@PurelyWalking The big ones are called Palmetto Bugs.. Cockroaches are smaller in size, ugly and pesty. While the big ones are not a pretty site, their names don't sound as bad as saying cockroaches. Lol😌

Hola como esta, tiene razon, los dominicanos no asimilamos que una persona sea reservada si tu eres reservada inmediatamente te catalogan de engreida, la palabra que usan es comparona,saludos desde newyork como siempre
Asi es. En rd si una persona es decente reservada, si tiene algo de cultura y buenos modales o buen gusto en el vestir, no pueden con eso, inmeiatamente catalogan a la persona de engreida, popi o que se la esta dando. Incluso le aplican estos epitetos a personas solo por que son de buena apariencia o se visten bien.

Es cultural. En Europa saben manejar el espacio personal de cada quien y respetarlo. Ejemplo básico: En las escaleras eléctricas te dejan un espacio para los que vamos apurados y dejan espacio en las filas para no sentirte que te respiran encima.
I sooooo hate that most dominicans here can't learn how to behave. Middle upper classity is a bit more aware..slightly.
@@laislabellame pasa siempre y me miran raro especialmente en el metro. They do a whole scan from head to toe and some even whisper and laugh. It's uncomfortable but at this point I take it chill cause im aware they got no style and can't dress as stylish as me anyway.💅🐩🌟🦋😬🇩🇴
@@MabelRD08 Me pasa exactamente lo mismo. Y a veces por yo ponerme sombrero he encontrado hombres desconnocidos que han estado a punto de agredirme. Otras veces he encontrado hombres que s ehan puesto agresivos ocnmigo por yo andar vestido formal, como si ocn eso se sintieran agredidos. Es cierto, te hacen un escaner, y despues se rien. En ese escaner de pies a cabeza tienes que pasar el test de la choperia y la dembowseria, si no te vez mediocre, preparate para el ataque.
El dominicano en verdad no soporta a alguien que no sea mediocre. Cuanta anormalidad! Es increible!
I love the DR because that is where I born. However, perhaps your list should be expanded to include trash everywhere, electrical wires, and culture of worship of the mighty dollar. Now that is out of the way, I am ready for a video of the 10 reasons why you should move to the Dominican Republic.

Point #2 is exclusive to the Capital Santo Domingo. Santiago and other cities obviously have traffic jams but not to the unbearable extent that it happens in Santo Domingo.

You forgot to mention loud music and loud Dominicans. They scream when they speak! Also Dominicans are not top on the nosy scale I live in USA and I have non Hispanics neighbors who keep count of my visitors and how long my family or friends stay. This is more true for White Americans. Black Americans for the most part will respects your space as long as you respect theirs!
As a gringo why are some Dominican women racist against me. Mega center is the worst place for me going there. Every time I go it always happens but not other places.
I recall an old lady, perhaps in her late 80's early 90s, crossing the street on a donkey. She was actually sitting sideways...😂😂😂

Yes, why didn't you stay in the US? Lol. As far as the list, I'm good with 4 out of 5. Customer service has gotten really bad in the US in the past 10yrs so I guess it's just something a person would have to get use to there.

As dominican, i cant handle with tigueraje culture, dembow culture and many prejuices existing in dominican republic. For that reason i thinking move to another country.

But at the same time, unlike europeans(experienced first hand) people are so scared to be upfront about not wanting to meet you, being there soon but always late, being in your face/ space inside the metro without need.
I just can't stand that and maybe I'll never Will.
