Thank you very much for your great comparison vid! :-D There really is a big difference between the HS51 and T1R. From the video I can tell that you don't have to fight the car as much with understeer and oversteer on the HS51, even though the Ecstas are touring tyres and the T1R is ultra high performance tyre. Seems like the HS51 is a very well rounded summer tyre, and the T1R is better left in the past.
Considering HS51 on a Cup 250 Elise as there’s not much else (outside of track rubber like A048 or 888s) in the right sizes other than TR1’s (and I think the fronts might have a lower speed rating).
Although I agree that the HS51 a better tyre than the T1R, however the T1R must be near on twenty years old so people should keep that in mind. I'd also like to point out having just this week purchased HS51 (225/45/17) they are NOT sports tyres, don't get me wrong they have massive amounts of grip even in the rain but the tyre flex makes the car feel dangerous when changing direction with any momentum. Also I suspect the grip has something to do with the compound being race tyre soft rather than any design accomplishments.
Dear Florian, Thank you for your comments. This video was made, not to promote Kumho, but because the T1R is a poor tyre that the internet tells you is far better than its ability. Age is no excuse and in my view they were poor when launched, being wobbly in the dry and snappy in the wet. That this "test" took place on a race track is only that these things should not take place on the road. The Kumho does not pretend to be a sports tyre, however it is both direct in corners and stable and the carcase, relative to many other road tyres is quite stiff. We have fitted them to many cars with good results. The compound is actually quite hard relative to any race tyre and this is certainly not a special soft compound tyre. Regards, MOT Motorsport.
There was no "track racing". This was a few laps around a circuit to gather feeling and opinion about how the Toyo tyre performed against another tyre. Tyre wear was not even a consideration, however there was nothing noticeable on either tyre, as would be expected after a short distance.
Hi, I just put my new fresh HS51 on my back wheels Ep2 Civic 2003, but seems like I roll on jelly, it's actualy dangerous every corner.. I never experience that on my Civic. So.. what can I do? in time maybe the tyres will improve, or... think about selling them? HELP
slOU mOU the hs51 feel wooble when you cornering, and make some sound easily. But ,the tyres can do better handling.. it more easily control when u take some fast corner.. i have do some test when highspeed cornering, braking and cruising. For me, Hs51 are not premium tyres, but the performance just good compare the other tyres have close his price. And one think, if u want feel the best performace of the tyres on hs51, just put air on the tyres-35psi.. 😁👍

How was the tire wear on the HS 51 after track racing? Which tire would you recommend for a NC model?
