That used oil would probably be good for another 6k miles in my corolla.
5w50? But it’s also different specifications less detergent I think and probably doesn’t have emission certification
Different temperature classification. This is oil that's run through a 1000hp corolla, not a 130-170hp corolla. You would probably use 5w30 or even 5w25.
@@jacksonbarry5407 Toyota would run on olive oil
@@Motorsportsgeek use it in your corolla then
Hahahahah 🤣🤣🤣
Cleanest used oil I’ve ever seen.
2:19 The moment you realise you've been living your entire life wrong up to this point.
I have removed my glove box and pulled up the carpet in my car. I can not find the oil reservoir. Any ideas? Also, the oil on the filter seal does more than lubricate it. The oil causes the rubber seal to swell and create a tight seal. That’s why you only need to tighten the filter hand tight.
I think for you it may be under your passenger seat , your passenger protects the driver from the oil so its definitely a sure way to find it :D
Your oil bung is on the bottom oil pan should hand the lowest
NO! Its under your cars rear seat. It may smell like gas, thats how you know it needs to be changed! Make sure to add lubrication when filling your tires too. Never want the air to move around without lube.
How you trying to educate people and you don’t even know where your cars buttplug is
@@xoriatmike6857 mine is integrated inside my gas tank I only need to fill it up with oil every once in a while. I drive a civic btw
I used to go back and forth on pre-filling oil filters. Large engine filters like in tractor-trailers are frequently pre-filled, but with filtered oil. The best rationale I've heard on car engines with smaller filters is NOT to pre-fill them. Just because the oil comes straight from the bottle doesn't mean it's 100% filtered. You could still have plastic bottle molding fragments inside...plus parts of the foil seal could fall in or even a bug can fly into the bottle. Then, that oil in the filter avoids both the pickup tube screen and filter...and goes straight into the critical engine parts like bearings, rings & cams. Not good. IMO...best to have a second or two of oil starvation (if that) by installing the filter dry. My other cars have inverted filters and they are installed dry. No issues so far with them.

Papadakis: tightens oil filter with pliers
hex bolt at the bottom: am I joke to you
I’ve never understood why people don’t use it
Youre not even supposed to tighten the oilfilter with any tools, you will get it tight enough with your bare hand. And you dont need to try to get it out with a fucking chainsaw next time.. were all been there..
@@tapsaaa1000 +1
@@tapsaaa1000 from my little knowledge racing engines can run at higher psi for the oil and tightening the oil filter is just extra assurance nothing bad will happen
Pliers: And I took that personally.
I learned something, I will never be able to afford a dry sump oil system lol. Pop's is my number one man for advice. This guy imo is the greatest engine builder of all time. When he talks people listen! No one does it better.
1 more trick for those who dont check things all the time is...........large hose clamp around the hand tightened filter that you can then use a small coil spring or safety wire to prevent it undoing. I also use a spring to keep the dipstick down and sealed on wet sump engines. Having said that i know a millionth of what this guy knows. These are truely fantastic vids
Those filters have the nut on the end to you can use a spanner to remove it. No need for the pliers.
euan begbie I don't typically carry a 36mm spanner that can get onto the end of a filter tbh
Boss Gordon it’s 25 on cars and 17 on bikes as per k and n website. Use and adjustable 😜
5 piece spanner socket kit on amazon, less than 20$
Almost everyone I know has something similar in their box

hahaha Hi I have been watching your videos for 2 days straight and im realing enjoying not only watching you do what you do best but learning so many things that blow me away but your absolute honesty espicially in failure have me addicted to your nature, work ethic and passion. So when you blow my mind with how to pour oil correctly only to show at the end your human and spilt the shit everywhere I hurt myself. Thank you for the time, effort and generosity to share with as all. You have inspired me greatly. Cheers from Australia.
I can't wait for the "How To Change Oil and Filter on Our 2020 Toyota MKV Supra", hopefully very soon Mr. Papadakis ;-)
I've had so many problems with those K&N filters. The rivets that hold the wrench cap on fail and spit oil everywhere. In the motorcycle world those filters are banned from most tracks.
They're called wrench-off and not wrench-on for a reason. They do fail sometimes on removal as well though. I get why Stephen doesn't use them at all though. I'd rather use my hands to tighten it most of the way and maybe use the pliers for an extra quarter turn. But i think i'd rather use those rubber strap tighteners than dent the filter with those pliers. No big deal though.
Filter has hex wrench nut on bottom.... proceeds to remove filter with giant pliers.
Those things are great. until it rips off and leaves a gaping hole in the bottom of the filter so all the oil pisses all over the floor.
Conor Tobin stop over tightening your oil filters.
@@chloehennessey6813 I don't. Imo. The nut is only there so that you can use a torque wrench on it. Other than that I don't touch it.
I tighten my filters by hand and when I'm lucky I can get them off by hand. Failing that I go for a filter strap or a good ol screwdriver.
Those hex cap suck when they get stuck in the filter socket the pliers are way better
@@conortobin6180 "... torque wrench..."? What the...? Why do you need a torque wrench on your oil filter? It sheers off because you *aren't* supposed to use a torque wrench on it. Go to www.knfilters.com/wrenchoff_oilfilter.htm and notice how it says "wrenchoff" in the url and at the bottom of the page it says "easy to remove". Torquing it on is likely over stressing the welds that hold the wrench off cap to the filter causing them to fail when you try to remove it.
It´s very satisfying to learn these routine maintenance from a pro. Your videos of engine repair and walkthrough are getting amazing, great job!

He could honestly have just hand tightened it. It’s a metal oil filter not cartridge
@@GNX157 That is a "wrench off" fixture. Using it to tighten can cause it to fail. Just use you hands. www.knfilters.com/wrenchoff_oilfilter.htm
Great instruction. I like that when you say that you were do it wrong way! Because we all know and learn new things every day. That is the way to be expert .
This is the best car channel on youtube, no doubt, he knows what he’s doing.
Hey Stephan, any particular reason you didn't warm the engine up before draining the oil? It's something I've always done and have been recommended to do by many different people. Thanks!
PSU : Only use a tool to remove your oil filter!
NEVER use tools to put it on. In most cases you can get it plenty tight by hand.
Not with a new ford, those fuckers leak ezpz.
So that's how you pour oil. Worth watching for that alone. =)
Seriously this channel is amazing, you actually give awesome information instead of bragging about all the stuff you have, thank you for that.
You obviously know way more than I do about engine maintenance. I was taught to hand tighten an oil filter when replacing one. At minute 4:58 the belt from the crankshaft to what appears to be the oil pump looks very loose. Is this normal tolerance? Am I seeing things that are not there?
I typically only hand tight if the filter is not upside down, if it is, I'll go an extra ¹/2- ³/4 turn because they tend to leak *cough* GM *cough* as for the belt, could just be the camera, if you watch any supercharger videos, the belts look extremely loose compared to what it actually is
Would this work on a blue car as well or is there a different process for different colors?
I always pour fluids sideways, usually streams out well and consistently that way
Sideways is much better.
You change your filter after pouring new oil, ONLY if you have a dry sump oil system in your engine.
Any car u can buddy. Oil filter only prime when the engine cranks. U can change filter before or after draining the pan
Haha, that's so true. I always feel like my car runs better with fresh oil.
Deadpool diesel daddy happy camper is it a diesel?
That's because it does run better with fresh oil.
Nice tip about pouring fresh oil in the filter before putting it on. It was always just spread some oil and the o-ring and put it on.
Couldn't agree more with how satisfying an oil change is!!!
Worst of realizing how to pour is most bottles have a pictograph of the right way to pour on or near spout
I work on big mining machines producing over a 1000kW power and I have never seen anyone tighten an oil filter with a tool. They're all designed to be hand tight. Wonder why he over tightens it here
Tip for hard to see oil levels on dipstick: Spray some Slip Plate (graphite-based 'paint', sort of) on the dipstick. Leaves a dull grey finish on the dipstick and makes it easy to see the oil level. ;)
I'm ready, only thing i need now is a racecar :D
Oil filters go on hand tight only.
I did it wrong too for years don't tell my wife.
is that a rear wheel drive corolla?

Dude that oil bottle just blew my mind.
Just a little tip for synthetic oils. Always shake the bottle first. Apparently the additives can separate from sitting too long.
It's funny you say most people have been pouring wrong. Unless it is told to you at an early age. My father told me when I was young. Great video!
Glad to see someone pour oil in center hole than side holes
Why would you use a jack and stands when your shop has a lift?
Maby to prove that you can do an oil change in your drive way?
A little tip when poring fluids like oil. You should cant the bottle to its side when poring. This way the oil doesn't splash that much.
I don't have any race car here but it's my dream to purchase one and maintain my race car at my own garage thanks bro for showing up the oil change god bless you keep it up bro 🤘✌
Hold the bottle flat to pour out without spilling. Works almost with any canister/jerrycan.

Funny @5:39-5:48 when Mr. Papadakus spills oil and gets nervous
hahaha the ending I bet you just showed a great tip for a lot of people in regards to the pre-filling of the filter. its the small things too that are so valuable imo...
Now try to prefill a filter that is actually looking upwards, or sideways, or whatever other angle, but down.............. i want you to film yourself , while mounting it ...............
Don’t you fill them through the outside holes?
So fun to watch this!
QUESTION: how does sponsorship work with all the fluids? Do the companies provide it, or you pay a considerable price with the discounts? 😕
I love that you show mess ups, may be little but to error is human.

Make a custom release pipe/ hose near the fender . Awesome ride . Probably encouraged by a Canon packed full of bucks and man hours . amazing .
Thanks for the oil hint!!! Nice clips, i LOVE the new MK5 Supra Videos! It’s nice to see, that a 2019 car can become a Legend.
I have a 2014 Scion tC, with the 2AR-fe engine, linked to a 6-speed manual transmission, good, reliable Toyota engine.. I also use K&N oil filter, stock design oil filter though, with 0w-20 Mobil 1 full synthetic...
Was wondering if you have the used oil sent off for testing?
Anyone else notice the jack point being the intercooler 0:25 🤣🤣 reminded me of something MCM would do.
the oil he drained is so clean
TheCheesenChips but probably broken down by the turbo and high revving engine
but probably has alcohol in it if they run E85, and that shit ruins oil, gaskets, coolant, everything it gets near it destroys

This has been a life changing moment for me.
The gloves for changing oils aren't just better with grip, they're also safer. Used oils are highly carcinogenic, you definitely should avoid skin or eye contact, and most definitely ingestion.
Also, double gasketing the oil filter will result in a massive oil leak the moment you start it. You never make that mistake again and you should always check for leaks after you're done with the car running.
it would be awesome if you could explain how the dry sump and swirl pot works in these cars?
here in germany the leading race oil company thats used through out gt series and le mans an 24h of nuerburgring is rowe oil. maybe you want to give it a try :D would be great to see a comnparison. cheers. by the way, greatest channel i have ssen so far learning so much, cause you take the time for detail.
I remember you when you first had that EF Civic Hatchback! How I miss that car!!
Sorry man but those bottles aren’t designed like that to allow more degrees of tilt before it pours. It’s so that the oil doesn’t “glug” while you’re pouring. With the cap offset to one side, air can enter the bottle without interference so you can have a perfectly steady stream.
It's both
Yeah. I'm going to have to agree with the "both" statement.
It’s both mate.. and I’m sure he knows this from exp
To be clear my amalie oil bottle have a icon showing oil should be pour that way
@@sm-vu4er Well, in the video, he defeats the purpose of the bottle design by pouring too fast causing it to "glug" (which actually slows the pour). So, I'm not convinced he really understands. It is definitely both though. The extra tilt angle before the pour starts makes it easier to aim the pour and helps eliminate the oil running down the outside of the bottle as you pour.
Thanks for the oil pooring trick man
Do you ever prime the oil fully out of the motor? At the team I'm on that's what we do so the system has completely fresh oil. Also we have inline filters (from K&N) that you can inspect and clean way easier, and they are reusable so there is some cost savings there. Just a thought from one racer to another.
Learned something today. I love when I gain some useful knowledge. Thanks Steve!
I learnt it hard way to do it "the right way" recently because I pour tons of oil on the engine & header... just glad the car were park for a night already, lol
Watching you remove the oil filter with a wrench and i looked at the bottom of the filter and saw a nut welded to the bottom of the filter. Why didn’t you use a socket to remove the filter?
4:55 The belt to the sump looks a bit loose.
Did you place a spanner the the oil drain tube in side the car, then undo the drain plug from under the the car?
If so, I would take the car builder by the ear, and ..
who makes your detaching system for the steering wheel?
finally, a tutorial that applies to my civic 😎
Good as new, that oil! See that viscosity and transparency. No carbon bonds brocken and splitted yet! No carbon black depositions whatsoever! You might have to change those eraser soft tires, but not the oil!
If u tilt the bottle sideways then the oil flow smoothly and won't wobble like that.
2:20 NO FUNNEL GANG MVP ✌🏽🔰
This man is humble
Out of sheer curiosity, why not use the built in hex head on the filter to remove it?
Oh yes, i share this feeling driving with fresh oil.
I have a 2016 F165 and I use the stock Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic blend oil and filter. I change it every 8 to 9k miles. Why don't I use full synthetic in a 165 cuin twin turbo 2.7 v6? Because I learning stock parts are better for your truck.
Assuming this is a dry sump engine , how do you not have to drain the crankcase /oil coolers also?
great fucking question
I think that it drains out of the table with rest of oil . There is a reason that it drains for over 5 minutes 😄
No workshop manual for this one. Video well needed xD
That's a pretty tame idle for a 1000 engine
So just to make sure I'm following along, you have the oil tank due to having a dry sump setup?
Hi Steph, how about pumping old oil from your drysump pan? Drysump pumps has tolerances that, oil can flow thru pump to pan by some time if oil tank is higher than pan...
5:42
At this moment every car guy had a heart attack..
What kind of filter do you use?
Long time ago I remember people using mecca oil filters that you could replace the internal element.
I think sometimes they were called canton mecca.
Do people still use those for racing cars?
How funny is that I was taught to poor it from the side:)thank you
How often do you need to change it after racing events? Some dealership claim it needs to be done after each track day.
I love that you show us that nobody is perfekt.
@Jeffrey Simmons STFU 😂
Hi Stephan, I really enjoy your videos, both very technical but still easy to understand. Just curious, but in a dry sump engine wouldn't you turn on the engine first and slightly rev it so that the oil tank fills up completely, and only then drain it? I'm asking because I've always seen it doing it this way on race cars. For a full drain it will also require to drain the engine sump and oil radiator I suppose, correct?
OMG! Been pouring oil like that for some years now. Figured it out myself, actually thought i was really smart, but apparently they're made for it... xD
@Stephen Papadakis, @PapadakisRacing, how often do you change your oil/for Fedric Aasbo's Corolla and under what conditions? Such as racing throughout the weekends, or weekends and daily driving too.
Looks like often when you see how clear the "old" oil is #goals
Usually each event weekend we will change the oil and filter. We also cut open the filter to check the element for metals. You could catch a problem early. I'll be posting a video on cutting open filter soon.
Did you just use the intercooler as a Jack point lol
It sure does look that way but from a few other shots it seems like there is a support under it that actually supported the weight. At 1:18 you can see the grille through a gap between the support and intercooler (near the center of the frame, just under the control arm).
i wanna do an internship with
