For the 1985 final I was on a huge tanker in the English Channel getting prepared to receive stores for when we docked in Europort the following day. I couldn't believe the match was still going on as it was so late when I finished work. Watched the final frame still in my boiler suit, all stress forgotten for an hour. Riveting..

He didn't slaughter Jimmy in 1984. That was very touch and go. Jimmy showed his mental weakness. But it was close.

A legend Steve Davis was my grandad watched the 1985 past midnight I was not yet born then but I have watched the longest video of the 1985 final here on RUclips the turning point of that match for me was when Steve potted the last red but failed to get on the pink snookering himself behind the yellow but he also tried to pot that difficult green in frame 9.

Here's two guys with each having a mind blowing crushing defeat over the other but only one ever gets mentioned. Steve beat Denis 9-0 in a final four years before the World Final of 85. It's strange how that embarrassing humiliation always gets overlooked. I'd love if Steve had said "okay let's talk about the 9-0 whitewash final for a little while!" It needs to be mentioned big time. I think it may be the only 9-0 final
