I was at Our Best Restaurant once before and got the fried pork chop which was thick and very tender with a wonderful crisp coating, mashed potates and fried green tomatoes both which were so very good. Also the fried cornbread, which I haven't seen seen I was a child. I highly recommend this place. The staff is friendly and so nice and anything you ask for they will get you. I've never tried any of there pies or cobblers, cause I simply have no room after the portions they give you with your meal. But go and experience this place where good country cooking has no equal.

    The food really looked tasty.
I can’t believe how many chicken livers that were served.
I know your dad would score with the fried green tomatoes. I love them too but can’t get them anywhere locally so I bought some from an Amish gentleman at the Farmers Market $2.00 each.
Don’t laugh but I wanted some southern food so went to Cracker Barrel and had fried orca , greens and chicken n dumplings. I got the hot sauce and put it on the greens and orca . Gooood! I had juice in the serving dish and wanted to chug it but my daughter told me, “Don’t you dare “!
THEN I saw that you did what I wanted to do but it would not bother me but my kid would be totally embarrassed 🙈 so I kept the peace.
She definitely will see you slurp that juice!
    Long story short????

I lived in Lagrange in the early 80's and the old Smithfield mill that used to be across the street from Our Best was still in operation. Their products were sold in all the little stores in the area, and their flour, whole wheat flour, and corn meal was hard to beat. I agree with everything you said about Our Best, it's still one of my favorite places to eat. I would disagree with one thing you said, though, some city people DO know a little something about fried corn bread. First fried cornbread I remember being served was in a short lived storefront restaurant at 9th and Broadway in Downtown Louisville. Place was called "Van's Gumbo" and just about anything you ordered came with some fried cornbread. It was only open for about a year or so, back in the early 2000's, but their food was fantastic, and they had the best chicken wings I've ever had.

I wish I knew all that great information about the mill before the video. We didn’t know much at the time and were just able to mention it.

In this part of the video the portions are hugh and I have never heard of fried cornbread maybe baked but fried and I know of cornbread muffins which I enjoy with my tea or coffee like Iike my Danish but no croissant and I know how to make it and I know the base as I am not a pastry chef but I know the basic things like brownies pancakes french toast different pies basic home style things and because I am from Honolulu Hawaii I know how to make Malasadas which is a fritter rolled in sugar and the cousin is the Italian zeppolie which you can find in any Italian bakery but they are rolled in powered sugar and you can pipe pastry cream peanut butter jam and jellies pudding just use your imagination and come up with something lot of different things but it's got to be sweet and not savory and making Italian style tiramisu Italian classic dessert and it's not cheap but I know how to make it because they will charge you 6.00 per portion and I can make it for less than half the price retail as I know the difference between wholesale and retail retail is for the customer you have to know the price structure how it works and know how to purchase in bulk or no because if you mark it to high the consumer won't buy it and you will be stuck with it it's all about volume and turnover numbers is what speaks sales to on a retail level and how you market your products very important and the display is also very important
