    One thing of note on the Arms spec for leveling. If you plan on copying his build, I highly, highly advise getting Anger Management asap rather than the last point before MS. The benefits of the additional rage will far outweigh the benefits of say an earlier 1% in 2h weapon damage. The reduce rage decay outside of combat and increased rage gen. during combat will be far more beneficial to you while leveling.

    • @Grimprospect
      @Grimprospect  5 лет назад +1

      Totally right brother! If leveling with points into the Arms tree I would definitely recommend putting a point into Anger Management sooner. I was hedging my bets after seeing a lot of hate for Anger Management online, so I decided to mention it later in the build. Then I forgot to mention in the video that I would take it earlier. Better script writing for me in the future. =D But I am glad to see people love this talent as much as I do and thanks for the feedback!

    A few opinions; Warrior Kinship is not available in Phase 1. Definetly get the lvl 20 Chest (and KEEP it) - You can use it later in raids, pre-pull in combination with a Rage Potion and start the fight with 100 Rage - just make sure to switch back to your current chestpiece again once the fight is about to start. This is especially useful for Tanks. Thanks for the great Video, thumbs up!

    One thing i noticed when playing the real game. Is hamstring kiting is significantly less effective and sometimes a negative. With this leeway mechanic the enemy range is much farther then I ever experienced on private servers. I find myself constantly unable to get out of range before my swing timer finishes and if i go that extra half second to get out of range my swing timer will probably finish but i'll get hit 1 last time. Then any time i waste out of range just finishes the enemy's swing timer basically giving them 1 extra attack they wouldn't normally have. As hamstring got better it started to work but I've basically abandoned it.

      @@OliverSnith it also generates rage while in combat not a significant amount but you know lol
      I'm personally not taking it because I legit need that point for other stuff and can manage rage more than well enough

  • @danielandersen2759
    @danielandersen2759 5 лет назад +4

    It's a common misconception that a quicker weapon will allow you to generate more rage. The reason you use a quick weapon as a tank, is so that if you are tanking a boss and getting hit hard, thus always being rage capped, you'll be able to use heroic strike more and thereby generating more threat. For a fresh 60, and even most of molten core (especially as an off-tank), all that matters is stats. Thrash Blade could potentially be a very good tanking weapon to start off with.
    A quick weapon generates the same amount of rage as a slow weapon. Made up example: Weapon with 1.0 speed, Weapon with 2.0 speed - same stats, same DPS - will generate the same amount of rage over 1 minute.

    • @danielandersen2759
      @danielandersen2759 5 лет назад

      And now that I've watched it all: Diamond flask can not "hold you over" for some time. It will likely follow you all the way till Naxx, and the beginning of it, unless you pool all your DKP for trinkets. 75 str is 150 AP. Any fight that last less than 1½ minute, or fights where there's a burn phase, this outshines most early trinkets. 75str vs 2% crit (Blackhand's)? Yep, 75 str. Ragnaros, Vael, Cthun, viscidus, you name it. Plenty of fights, even in dungeons, calls for DPS at certain points in the fight. What a good warrior need to do is trinket swap. Even carrying around a Ramstein's Lightning Bolts can be helpfull. 10-20 thrash mob pull @ 200 damage each? That's a lot. You just need to swap preemptively, be ready and aware. If you forget to swap back though, then you should stick to wearing the same 2 static trinkets.
      Same thing with fast weapons/rage goes for fury warriors. Fast weapons in off-hand does not generate more rage. The ONLY reason to use a fast weapon in off-hand is for dense sharpening stone, and that's not even that big of a deal, certainly not to hold back from upgrading a fast blue to something like a brutality blade or deathbringer in off-hand. "On a 2.8 speed weapon, Dense Sharpening Stone is worth almost 40 AP, with 1.9 speed it's 58 AP" - quote from someone who did the math. Off-hands are for stats. Even the main-hand only really needs to be slow for heroic strike and whirlwind, and in pre-raid gear you don't get to use those that often. Use the best weapons you can get your hands on, statwise, don't worry about speed.
      Other than those things, good guide! Really like how you included a lot of alternatives and easy-to-get. The term BiS, though meaning Best in Slot, really hinders people's progression. Go for realistic gear, get lucky, get the second or third best, use your time to get consumables or have fun instead. I liked it.

    • @Grimprospect
      @Grimprospect  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the in-depth feedback! You are totally correct that the reason tanks use a faster weapon in order to get out more Heroic Strikes, which will increase our overall flat threat. However, as a Fury Prot tank using a faster weapon can also increase the chance that you will proc Flurry. This does indeed increase the amount of rage you receive but it is at a random rate. I tested out the different in rage generation a few times between 1.5 weapon speed and 2.8 weapon speed and came up with the 1.5 speed weapon reaching 100 rage 1.80 seconds faster. Of course, this is a very small difference and you have an awesome point! I will totally look at slower weapons more seriously when gearing up and thanks for the comment.

    As a current classic player on Whitemane, I can make wep choices a little simpler in real time. In short, 20s-staff from SFK, 30s- Whirlwind Axe from warriors quest, 40s to pre-raid- Ravager, that simple. Here's why:
    First off, at lower levels, whatever wep has the best stats with Strength and stam at the highest DPS you can find will be your best bet. You should be leveling fast enough that that should be good enough until SFK (lower 20s). Grab the Staff from Odo in SFK, which is typically a spell caster staff, but great DPS on a wep that's free. Remember, as a warrior, your best attack skills work off of Wep damage, so DPS is most important, spell staff or not. That should float you until lv 30. At 30, work to the Whirlwind wep from the warrior quest, whether you get help from a higher lv player or wait till you can solo it, the Whirlwind wep is Legendary. But in most cases its not hard to find someone willing to help with the quest even being a lower lv. Most players in classic either have rolled a warrior or at least know of the WW wep and how important it is to get that they will help out. I might highly suggest getting the other mats needed for the quest before asking. Players are much more likely to help when all you need to do is Defeat the final boss. But you might get lucky so it never hurts to ask anyway. Look up a guide on the Whirlwind wep quest for mats. After you get the WW wep, Next up is Ravager from SM Armory( mid-late 30s). Ravager will make you a boss in instances all the way until grinding for pre raiding Bis, So mid 50s. Ravager: Chance on hit: You attack all nearby enemies for 9 sec causing weapon damage plus an additional 5 every 3 sec. Im lv 47 now and still do Top DPS in ZF unless a higher lv warrior with Rav is in the group. Melee Cleave groups are the fastest way to level from the 40 on, and the Rav is the best Item to have for it. There is also an Add on just for the Ravager that yells when you proc the wep. If someone took the time to make an Add on just for a wep, that must mean its great right? :D But seriously Ive done ZF after SM Cath from lv 41-Current with only using Ravager, and i still see warriors in the lower 50s using it. Warriors can outdo Mages in AOE using this wep once you get it, so don't sleep on it. I highly recommend, as soon as you can get into SM armory, to grind it out until it drops for you, no matter how long it takes.
    Subnote: Rav Rotation AOE in Dungeons as currently used - charge as opener, SS, zerker, WW, and cleave until WW is off CD, in the meantime hope Rav procs. if not, and SS is off CD, back to Battle stance to rinse and repeat.

    19:41 Mark of Tyranny is not from the Onyxia Attunement Quest. It's a reward from the quest "General Drakkisath's Demise" and it is higly recommendable to choose "Blackhand's Breadth
    " as a reward. Reason is that you can easily get "Vigilance Charm" (2% dodge) from Immol'thar in Dire Maul.
    In my oppinion "Blackhand's Breadth
    " and "Vigilance Charm" is the best pre bis trinket combination. One for threat generation and one for damage mitigation.

    3,3/ Deep Wounds, 5/5 Tactical Mastery, 1/2 Imp. Charge
    1/1 Anger Management, 2/2 Impale, 2/2 Imp. Overpower
    1/1 Sweeping Strikes
    5% damage from Two-Hand Spec is going to be next to nothing while leveling, and you can always respec towards the level cap (and you should, especially if you want a more versatile spec to also tank dungeons/OT or TT raids--or PvP; I did all 3 with the same spec). Having Improved Charge, coupled with the maxed Tactical Mastery, will lead to more consistent damage on openers when grinding or threat when tanking.
    Deflection, though helpful, won't be as important if you intend on heavily utilizing hamstring kiting. You can exchange the Heroic Strike points as per preference, though.
    Edit: fixed.

      How to you get 2/2 Impale without Deep Wounds? Looks like that must be added, so how would that change your build (if at all)?

    • @HurricaneSparky
      @HurricaneSparky 5 лет назад

      @@lblampmanjr Oops, edited the build to fix that mistake. You can exchange the utility points, such as those in Imp. Charge or Heroic Strike for Deflection if you want, though I don't think it's necessary while leveling. I'm leveling as DW Fury, though.

    Cruelty is such a good flat talent. since 20agi = 1crit% (also 1 dodge%) That is 100 agi stat right there.

    Felstriker and ironfoe for prot. Switch them in battle if you have great time for spending a global cooldown. They should have proc per minute rule in classic too.

    What I'm wondering about: If I spec into Fury / Prot for end game dps and tanking, do I carry 2 sets of gear in my bags while raiding? Sometimes DPS warriors end up off tanking. Also what gear would be the priority? Like if you had to choose in a quest reward tanking gear or dps gear
    edit: also, when it's MS > OS, are you prioritizing fury gear or prot gear??

    No mention of Edgemaster's Handguards? If you're not a human or orc they're probably the best gloves for your entire playthrough due to 7 weapon skill eliminating almost the entire penalty of Glancing Blows. It also gives a little extra hit and crit from weapon skill as well. They sim even better than Gauntlets of Annihilation for non humans/orcs for instance.
    Absolutely insane cost as they're a world drop epic though.

    In dungeons??

      As a DPS warrior most groups that invite you expect you to desire good items from leather to plate. One reason why not so many get invited =( Also, all of the images can be found in the discord.

    Sacrificing the mark of fordring neck to get ornate adamantium breastplate would be a decision you'll most likely regret for a very long time. The chest can easily be replaced, the neck won't be.

    • @Grimprospect

      Onyxia Neck replaces it pretty easily, but the breastplate is just a backup chest anyway.

      @@Grimprospect true, onyxia neck is the one you want over the trinket. The only other neck that has 1% crit & hit is out of aq20, I believe.

    Playing hardcore classic makes me wish there were more ways to gear up than dungeon drops. You have a limited amount of times you can even run the instance and on top of that, you need a decent group so PUGs are kind of dangerous.

      It seems to depend a lot on mob hitboxes too. A medium-sized humanoid or smaller feels far easier to hamstring kite than a target larger than the player.

  • @t3chn0dr0n3

    Hamstring kiting doesn't work in Classic due to melee range leeway. So you can just delete the first 1/4 of the video.

    Why are you avoiding improved cleave ? i think as prot it's great to maintain pack aggro.

    • @Grimprospect
      @Grimprospect  5 лет назад +2

      So Improved cleave only increases the bonus damage from cleave that the total damage. This means for 3 talent points invested you get to increase only the bonus damage from cleave by 120%. At level 60 you can get rank 5 cleave which has 50 bonus damage. That means you only get an extra 60 damage from Improved Cleave at level 60. So its not the most amazing talent and most typically pass on it =)

      Deep wounds is low on the priority list but you take deep wounds to get to impale. So you deep wounds only pushes off other low priority debuffs.

    • @SoundwaveSC

      Nah, the quicker you get Anger Management, Sweeping Strikes and especially Mortal Strike, the better. Cruelty is obviously fantastic but it's not something like a Priest's Spirit Tap or Wand Specialization that will dramatically decrease your levelling time.
