    36 nipples
    a spoke wrench or screw driver (to tighten everything together)

    good video but i have to point out that 4cross is always over over over under. It allows for the crossing spokes to share impact force and reduces stress on the rim.

      That's what I thought the last cross one needs to go under.

      @@jackpickerill549 there are alot of good video's on 3cross and 4cross. I got a great tip for you though, after building an treuing the wheel tighten the outer spokes who crosses the inner a quarter so every spoke that faces outside. If you do this you won't have to true your wheels for a long time especially if you ride 4cross

    Close but not correct my boy. Just like a 3 cross pattern on your 3rd set of 9 spokes you need to go over 3 under 1. 3 cross is over 2 under 1. There is going to be a shitload of people blowing out their wheels doing it this way. Also if you choose 4 cross remember to add about 1.5mm to the length of your spokes from a 3 cross.

  • @EricRupe
    @EricRupe Год назад

    Once it is laced up, if you tighten every nipple down to the end of the threads on the spoke, the wheel will be fairly true to begin with. There won’t be much left to do after that. Also, this video didn’t instruct the builder to inner-lace the spokes Just don’t have them lay on top of each other, but put the next one under the previous one & the wheel will be even stronger, sturdier, tighter and better.
    Thanks for the vid 😊

      the 4x pattern he did is the classic vintage pattern that were done on all the 80s bmx bikes (mongoose, GT, ect.) back in the day which is 4 over, no under. There is a 4x pattern that goes under that I have seen before

    Is 4 cross stronger and if not is there a way to lace a wheel and make it strong?

    • @daobmx
      @daobmx  3 года назад

      this is stronger than your normal 3x pattern, and to keep a wheel strong you just have to tighten spokes when they get loose/replace a spoke if it breaks

  • @shakedinbar2162
    @shakedinbar2162 3 года назад

    why would it be stronger? it has an higher leaning angle which makes them less effective holding all the stress, i think..

    • @daobmx
      @daobmx  3 года назад +1

      its further spread out tension and crossing more area making it a stronger wheel all together

      @@daobmx interesting, i didn't know. why is the industry still stuck at 3 cross if so?

    • @beardyface8492
      @beardyface8492 3 года назад

      @@shakedinbar2162 4 cross used to be standard on rear wheels if you go back to ancient British 3 speed bikes with hub gears which tended to be heavy & got ridden on poor roads. They typically used 40 spokes rather than 36 as well. 5 cross (and 48 spokes) was common on tandems for the increased strength.
      Some ancient history for you.
      3 cross is standard because it's cheaper.

      Not recommended, you'd need hubs with an unusually large pcd to even try, done on a smaller hub the spokes interfere with each other & tend to break.
