A while back I saw a video on RUclips and the host was an extremely knowledgeable washing machine/appliance repair man. He said that people use WAY too much detergent and said you only need 2 teaspoons of liquid detergent in a load of laundry, I know, its hard to believe but I started using this method and all of our clothes come out perfectly and I can't remember the last time I purchased detergent. The manufacturers make that plastic dispenser cup nice and big so you use a lot and BUY more detergent. If you try this method just one time I swear you won't believe the amazing results. I wish I could join 8n the glowing chorus of using such a small amount of detergent, but that has just not been my experience 😢. If your water is naturally soft, that's a great option. My water is so hard it practically clinks as it's pouring. No. I am sorry to report that I not only use at least the recommended amount, but I add additional water softening agents and laundry boosters. And when given a choice, my uncle retired from GE as a repairman. He said always pick a top loader, with agitator, with little to no computerized parts and you'll have a washer that cleans best, that needs fewer repairs, and will last longer. Old standards are best.
I use a magnetic chip clip to keep the door open. I can move it to the side when in use and then just slide it back over when I empty the machine. The door will automatically shut otherwise.
@@Amca947 that's cause the fibres are clogged with detergents and softeners. People use too much product and do short cycle washes. I have qualifications in textiles. I have the same washer. The panel you opened for the filter…there is a black tube to the left of the filter. It is resting in a slot. Pull it out and remove the white plug, it screws in. Drain that first, then clean your filter. Not as messy. There may be a sticker with those instructions too.
Pro tip! If your detergent fill spot pulls out like this one, you can prevent mold buildup by pulling it open when you empty the washer and just leaving it like that until your next wash. I usually forget to do this, but when I remember consistently, it stays nice and clean
When cleaning the filter… Instead of unscrewing the filter first and drowning your floor/towel…. See the hose at the side? Pull that out and remove the plug gently and empty the water into a tub / bowl… Once there’s no more water, then open the filter to clean it out. Replace the plug and the hose and screw the filter back in. A lot easier.
I am 63 and I've been doing laundry since I was ten. I have never cleaned out that drain thingy. So, I just did it now after watching this video,. It wasn't as dirty as I was expecting, but I was still able to get all the hair and other junk out of there, Great tip, Kallie!
Love how honest you were about the grotty drawer! The first clip showed it sparkling clean and I thought, no way it's always like that and then you were like, yep I just cleaned this. Awesome. No fakeness on this channel!
I enjoy your videos. Very informative. I would like to add one thing though. I have a similar machine. When you are draining the machine, there is a little hose next to the filter. Pull that out, remove the cap and drop it into a small bucket. The water pours out and there is little to no mess on the floor.
Quick tip about vinegar: since it's acidic, it can erode some of the rubber and metal parts of your machine with consistent use over time (ex. the waterproofing seals in the machine and in the wall). Just be careful about how much and often you use it :)
@@DM-vl1tvI've been using vinegar every wash in fabric softener dispenser for years. For reference I have a 2004 whirlpool duet bought new still runs like new. I also have an old speed queen that's probably 30+ years old works fine. Appliance repair guy said vinegar eroding parts is a myth as it's not sitting in there long enough. It actually helps to kill mold in parts you can't see. According to him, fabric softener gunks it all up whether liquid in washer or dryer sheets He said use powder detergent if you can and no matter what use 1/3 of what detergent label says to use.
I have used about a quarter cup of vinegar in every wash for about 15 years in my front load machine. I have never had an issue. Unless the gasket material had changed I wouldn't worry about it.
My son in law swears that I messed up the rubber seal of their old dishwasher with using vinegar to clean it once. Not sure if I did or not, but I have been reluctant to use vinegar in dishwashers or washers since then.
I have the same washing machine as you do and I do clean it. I love the feature on the door that allows it to click and shut, but not lock the door closed so it allows air movement.
Before reinstalling your detergent drawer into the machine, use a microfiber towel to wipe the inside, particularly the top, because buildup and mold tends to develop there.
Thank you for this. Truly so informative. I remember when my wash machine had just 'wash' hot, warm, cold. If it was delicate I washed it in the sink. Now, machines are so confusing! This helps❤❤
Callie, I have been watching you since you only had Miles, and were just pregnant with your 2nd. You always teach me a thing or 20! I love your videos, and I feel like I could be part of your family because I've been watching you so long. I tend to listen to you when it comes to product recommendations because you're a frugal girlie! If I had one request, I would love to know more details about how you and your husband buckled down to get debt free. Don't ever think that you're not helping people out here. It's a rare occasion for me to miss one of your videos. I have to be incredibly busy or sick. Your helps keep me on my toes with my grandkids! Rock on, Callie! We cheer you on with each video! 😂❤😂
You can usually set newer washing machines' normal cycle to a cold water setting too. GE has come out with a self venting feature, which helps you avoid mold. I do however; think it's important to still clean the machine though. Thank you for your helpful tips. I always enjoy your videos.
I use the vinegar in the washer to remove the soap build-up. Which I need to do on the next cycle because they aren't smelling clean. On another note, I'm shocked that my grandmother's washer, who was 50 years old, she bought it after working overtime, I thought that was a nice story behind those appliances. Anyway, they are Kenmores and are still running to this day..WOW!! It's hard to believe.
I have a Maytag washer and dryer purchased in 1989 have manual dials and manual push buttons that still function well. I have had a few minor repairs over the years for hoses and belts but have no interest in fancy machines that have an electronic system run by a mother board. Everyone I know has replaced them with new machines when those complex machines break down due to the expense. A friend had machines a few years older than mine but decided she needed the latest gadgets on the machines and has been unhappy with them. The smell of the front load washer, she was told that she needed to keep the door open but due to the location now sticks out in the central walking area and is an inconvenience. I’m sure that the person who bought them for almost nothing is very happy with her old machines.
WOW. MIND BLOWN. I also have an LG front load washer.... I had NO CLUE there was a filter trap. ACK. Well I followed your directions and my goodness it STINKS! That water came pouring out and smelled yucky! The washer if 4 years old and again I never knew there was a filter that needed cleaned. Thanks Sista!
If your clothing is "stretching", it's more than likely because of the overuse of Softening/Static Cling Products. I primarily use Snuggle or Bounce only during a jeans, jackets, or dress shirts wash. Because ANYthing elastic, Spandex, or knit (socks, underpants, sweaters, etc) WILL stretch out from use. Some blue jeans are made with Spandex too, btw. Also, towels cannot absorb water well, when fabric softeners are used. So the vinegar rinse aid is awesome to use. *** If you don't already know this old secret to remove static, make clothing de-wrinkle, and just make laundry smell great, without overuse of softeners.... our family has called it Downy Spray for 65 years, before there was a Downy Wrinkle Remover!! Now we call it Snuggle Spray. It's simply a large spray bottle 95% water and one cap of Snuggle, Downy or Suavatel, etc. When you've got a static-y towel or whatever, simply spray a slight mist at it. No need to spray directly on it, per se. This mix is a game changer for wrinkles too; as we also call it our "Liquid Iron", lol. A gentle mist of Snuggle Spray and a hand's swipe or two, and probably a few tugs on your item, will magically remove most every wrinkle in sight! 😮🎉😊
@@mes373 I've never used fabric softener, or dryer sheets. I use the dryer balls. Also, I've started using all natural products from a company called Truly Free, laundry products, cleaning products, even fruit/veggie wash. All natural, no chemicals, and my clothes come out fresh and clean. Even the stain remover works better than Shout or Oxyclean, both of which I've used in the past. I highly recommend!! Better for your clothes, better for your machine, better for your health, and better for the environment!
I have the almost the same washer. The tube right next to the filter- I pull this out and drain all the water in a bowl. Then put that tube with the cap back. Then open the drain filter and clean and put away. You don’t really need the towel because there isn’t all that water. Hope this made sense.😅
Yes, I started cleaning my front loader 3yrs ago. It's horrible. But 1 thing you for got was after you clean the soap, bleach, fabric draw. Look in where it goes in & that's where the build up is. Mine was moldy & tons of soap in there so plz look & remind ppl to check it. Ty. Love ur channel
For everyone critiquing the title...Kallie is smart. This was likely a typo or autocorrect that she didn't catch because she's an exhausted mom of a newborn... OR she brilliantly did it on purpose for extra comments in her videos 😂
I got a trunk organizer that I keep diapers, wipes, and spare clothes in and I have an extra carrier that stays in the car. I'm newly a mom of 3 myself. I have a 3.5 year old, 2 year old, and 4 month old. I am kind of a homebody but I do also like to get the kids out of the house more than I thought I would. And let me just say in this moment I'm feeling like 3 is my capacity as well but I also am not willing to 100% say I'm done having babies 😅 Thank you for being here! Your videos help me have a better mind set a lot of the time. ❤
WoW, I personally don't have a washer, but I have known that this is regular maintenance that is needed ❣️When I did have one everyother month I did run a washer with bleach and hot water only. The other month with vinegar and hot water. Then, a cold water cycle after each. I haven't own a washer in 15 years. I do start my wash day with the dirtiest whites which I bleach to disinfect the washer from other families' germs in the complex. Then vinegar to all my loads. I know my family has our own germs. Every family has their own scent that comes from what they eat and what soaps they use in combinations.
Can you do one on dryers? You could let people know that you have to also clean the vent that connects to the back of the dryer. And that part in the wall.
My machine is a bit older, but it lets me set temp, spin speed, and agitation speed separately, with the programs being presets to work off of. It is really nice to be able to play around with.
That black tube next to your filter is so you can drain the water out in a more controlled manner (I usually use a ziplock because it’s easier for me) before you open the filter.
Really appreciate all your hints over the years! Just an FYI, “you’re” means “you are,” not “thing that belongs to you.” No judgment-just wanting to help.😉
If you have a top loading washing machine, you can use it for laundry stripping. Just fill your machine with water, pause the rinse cycle and let the clothes soak. Then let it rinse and wash on your normal cycle.
@HisLove4You It's a process of soaking your clothes to remove residue your detergent and softener left behind on the clothes. You're left with cleaner, softer clothes. Don't hesitate to ask questions in the comments. That's what they're used for 😊
Thank you for the tips, Kallie! I have one more tip for you….That tube to the left of the filter at the bottom of the machine can be used to drain the water out into a container before pulling out the filter. Take the tube out. Pull out the stopper at the top of the tube, then drain the water into a cup or some other container. When the water stops flowing out of the tube, then pull out the filter. You still may want a few towels underneath the machine in case the water didn’t completely drain out, but there will be less water to clean up this way.
I have the same washing machine as you do. When you want to drain your water out from the filter down below, you can drain it first from the water “pipe” on your left (you pull the pipe out a bit and remove the top). After you drained the water, you open the filter in clean it. Hope it helps. 😊
@5:30 - Check your manual for how to change that filter. The tube that's next to that filter lets you drain the reservoir before opening the filter housing. I like to do that before I go on long vacations too to really let it dry out in there.
I have a Maytag front loader (probably about 15 years old. It doesn't have a filter. At least not one I can access, and I've never had a problem with it. Yay!
Man I really love having a top loader now. I have never had any issue with it getting my clothes clean and I don’t have to worry about the mold and mildew!
I hate my front loader. I would love another top loader, but I cannot convince the spouse, despite my complaints about the level of maintenance and the mold and mildew😭
Me too! After close to 20 years of *loathing* my front loader and praying for it to die, when it finally did I replaced it with a top loader and laundry day is so much better now.
My washer now is older. But I do one thing that saves me money, whether it's new or old. When my laundry cycle is totally completed. Shuts off. Go back to the dial and turn it to spin only. Not rinse and spin. Spin only. You won't believe how much faster your laundry drys. Try it! It's unbelievable how much water is actually left in your laundry after a normal wash!
Yes, im slowly learning yo yse tge different settings and all the options to clean my laundry better. Recently found an express option that is great when i want to do a quick load in the evening.
I have the same washer which is stacked with the dryer. I leave the door open at minimum a day after washing, I dont use softener. I vinegar in thes softener compartment and baking soda in the drum with the cloths. I use the towel setting for towels.
When removing the detergent tray to clean, also check the chute before returning the tray. You'll be surprised what you will find. Always wipe down the door, the inner door rubber seal and the drain after use. Leave the detergent tray and door ajar to prevent mole and mildew growth. I highly recommend using washing machine tub cleaning tablets every month. It makes a big difference!
the pre-wash is the best, when used OUTSIDE the machine - and it is nice what you show with washing soda etc. but not all clothes need it, just water in most case, to get, and you make all your clothes super clean with delicate wash and least detergent...
On my washing machine, I have a option for multiple rises/spins and also for soaking and I use both of those just to make sure I get all the detergent out and to soak because I wash all my stuff on delicate
I still prefer top loading washers with an agitator! I had for 12+ yrs a front loading combo unit (then later just the front loading washer) in our motorhome - I hated that it's was always stinky & moldy (even with cleaning &keeping it open to air out) Now we're back into a regular home again & finally got my top loading washer back ❤❤❤❤
I'm from the UK and I've never had a smelly washing machine, I never leave the detergent drawer open and the washer door, I close it but not on the catch. People are washing on quick washes and cold or cold ish water all the time and then wonder why bacteria starts building up.
You can/should also drain the water from the filter system prior to removing the filter. You do need a bowl, pull out the tube left of the filter and let drain. This water also gets mucky.
Is there any reason you couldn't do laundry stripping in a top loading washing machine? Of course you'd have to do smaller batches, But for those who can't get on their knees or bend over a tub, It seems to me it would be beneficial. Plus the washing soda and the borax would clean out the laundry tub and its housing as your clothes are soaking. If you've ever seen the washing machine taken apart, you wouldn't believe how much filth accumulates between the inner tub and the housing it sits in. It would turn your stomach
@@mes373You could absolutely do your laundry stripping in a top loader machine. Although I have read that it’s unnecessary to even do laundry stripping. So many different opinions out there…🤔 “To each his own”- I guess….😅
I only put white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment because fabric softeners are part of the cause of dryer fires (heat, accelerant, and combustible).
When cleaning let out the water on the left of the filter before taking the filter out. Use a low dish to collect the yucky water with residues and softener, it will be gross and smelly but will help to remove odors of water just sitting there in your machine. Plus leave machine door and drawer open.
* Your. I’ve never seen a part in the drawer for bleach in a UK washing machine. Is this the norm in the US? I’ve never used bleach on any of my clothes etc. I mainly do all my washing on the same setting. I think my washing machine has several different settings but I usually just use the same one. I didn’t realise that some washing machines in the US were front loading. I always thought they were the top loading ones. Here in the UK some people are obsessed about putting their washing on the line, especially during the summer. Not me, I use my tumble dryer all through the year & put it all away straight away.
The “some people” you mentioned are actually intelligent, knowledgeable and educated people who care about the environment and the durability of their clothes, as we do here in continental Europe.
Before cleaning the filter, get a small container and pull the little hose beside it and empty all the water first, THEN clean the filter. My washer is 8 years old and it has never smelled moldy (just clean) nor does it have mold, I do this at least once a month. As you say, clean the detergent drawer and when done with all the laundry, wipe the door and gaskets and leave the door slightly open at least for a day or two, your will never have any problems if you make this a routine.
Agreed. I have always thought this when I see the laundry stripping videos because they use hot water. If you use the color catchers (which start out white), when you wash your colors or darks , even in cold water on the delicate cycle, they come out with color on them because there is a lot of dye floating around in the water.
Wishful thinking. I Know my great front loading modern he LG machine (even with pre-wash, extra-water, and extra-rinse settings) simply Does Not clean as well as my old top loader swishing things around in lots of water. Not being nasty.
When you clean the washing machine filter, pull the little hose out *first* and drain THEN do the filter. Otherwise you will have a lake!!! Also washing machine tabs are amazing! Every 30 washes and newer machines will remind you to do a tub clean after 30!
I can't always find washing soda in the supermarket, so instead I go to Home Depot or Lowes and head to the pool section for Ph Plus. If you look at the ingredients you'll see its sodium carbonate, which is exactly what washing soda is. I always buy the powder form in the ziplock bag, which keeps it a dry loose powder. I've bought the arm and hammer washing soda that comes in a cardboard box, only to open it up when I need it and discovered it had absorbed all the moisture in the air and the whole thing had solidified into a solid rectangle and I needed to put the whole thing into a half bucket of water and turn it into a paste first before I could use it. Not difficult, but it was an extra step in what was usually a busy day of cleaning that I didn't account for.
The little hose to the left of your filter is for easier draining into a vessel to not get your floor all wet. You still need to towel, but there won’t be as much water
Yes as soon as you guy a washing machine you must as many questions as you can also what about the adult friends and roles models in your life..did the not experience that issue.
And yet it was actually my repairman who told me 18 years ago to use vinegar in my loads. It’s strange how different the advice is that we get from various repairmen. 🤔
Two things people should keep in mind, Firstly read your machines manual and know WHEN in the cycle each chemical is dispensed. The second is how “hard” the water going into the machine is. If you have soft water you want vinegar to be dispensed during the rinse cycle, it will stop the detergent from working if it is dispensed during the wash cycle. If you have hard water you want the vinegar dispensed before the detergent to ‘soften’ the water and boost the detergent. Also if you have hard water, using borax and washing sofa may leave a white cast on the clothing. Running vinegar through after the borax should remove this. Knowing when the chemicals get dispensed can save you a lot of money, some machines will rinse out or dispense chemicals at the wrong point in the cycle for them to work effectively so adding those chemicals in those machines is a waste of money. Finally, download a copy of your machines manual to your phone, my other half has a bad habit of not putting manuals away so this way I always have a copy of it.
Thank you, I have an older top loading washer without a pre wash or delicate cycle. I use bleach and vinegar wash cycles to clean my washer. I have ADHD and have a habit of forgetting wet laundry in the washer and everything in the machine stinks. I may try the laundry stripping! I have never heard of it until now!
Adding white vinegar to your wash load also helps set the color in new clothing so it doesn't bleed, although some colors (reds and blacks especially) and some fabrics that don't "hold" their color as well might need more than one round of that in the beginning. We have hard water here, so I just add the vinegar in with the detergent directly. If your clothing isn't coming out as clean as you'd like, one issue could be overloading the machine. I'm very guilty of this because I want to get my laundry done in as few loads as possible--and moms of small children definitely don't have time to be that precious about running a ton of smaller loads! I remember :) But it does make the washing machine have to work a lot harder. Additionally, using too much detergent can make it harder for the machine to thoroughly rinse/clean the clothes, and it can actually damage the machine or cause it to malfunction if it isn't able to clear out all the suds. That's especially true with front-loaders. We actually experienced that issue with our dishwasher not too long ago, as well. We'd recently switched to detergent pods and were experimenting with them a bit. My husband didn't think they were cleaning that well, so he decided to add a second one to the little basket we have on the top shelf of the dishwasher (for small lids and things), and we started getting error codes and the washer would stop early in the cycle. We finally discovered the extra pods were the issue, not only because we were using too much soap, but because the second one wasn't encased in the little pop-open cubby in the door to be released at the right part of the cycle. The dishwasher was filling with suds too early and freaking out its sensors.
Some other tips - Before removing the bottom filter to clean first unclip the small hose to the left of the filter & empty any water into a shallow tray. When taking out and cleaning the detergent tray don’t forget to also wipe inside the machine slot.
I read an article recently that said never to use vinegar in your washing machine. The article says many people use as fabric softener but especially in front loaders it can damage or melt the rubber seals. Considering how much washing machines cost, it's not worth the risk. I wouldn't use it.
I have used it in every load for about 15 years. I less the gasket material has changed recently I wouldn't worry about it. That is probably a myth the fabricsoftner sellers have started.
@@debbiewood7718 No it's not. You can google it. If you only do it very occasionally it's probably ok but if you continue to use often it will ruin the seals and cause leaks. Google it and you will see.
My normal cycle defaults to cold water. Whites and towels settings end up being hot. However I’ve noticed if I use fabric softener, it dispenses at the beginning of the cycle on my front load. So I have to catch it when it’s going to the rinse cycle.
Not sure if you know. But after cleaning the filter on your washing machine. There’s a black hose that needs to be unplugged to release yucky water. You need to place a bowl underneath to catch the dirty water then replace the plug. ❤
Newly getting an advanced washer I had a simple dial very few settings for over 20 years. Sad fact the fancy washer they delivered me was a lemon and don’t work. I’m waiting for replacements, I’m sad about this because I have a lot of laundry to do
That little hose on the left of the filter unscrews and lets you drain the water into a bowl. Then you put the top back on and pop it back then you unscrew the filter. It isn’t as messy.
Bleach compartment. If you put it in softener compartment you might end up with clothes smelling like vinegar as fabric softener is released during spin cycle towards the end.
My washer is SO different from yours. But this video did motivate me to look into how better to use my washer (which I hate). (I hate my washer - not your motivation!)
I found that my clothes smelled on a warm or hot wash. Had to hung them out straight away but that wasn't always possible. Now i cold wash except 4 cleaning cloths which i wash at 90° and towels at 70° with vinegar in the rinse cycle. I add the vinegar straight inside the machine as the despenser had to be replaced from the corison .

Just know that all commercial fabric softener contain toxic chemicals, not listed on the container
Yes, I haven't used softener for years, I like my clothes smelling of nothing but clean. I can't stand the smell of other people's laundry now.
@@teresamoore4126 Same!
Came here to say the same.
Came here to say to also say this. The tube is there for the purpose of draining the water.
And let me just say in this moment I'm feeling like 3 is my capacity as well but I also am not willing to 100% say I'm done having babies 😅
Thank you for being here! Your videos help me have a better mind set a lot of the time. ❤
I instantly respect you. I have a 1 and 2 year old, Irish twins. God damn it's hard
I love my top loading washer I'll never go back to a front loader again. But I do clean out my washer every month 😊
Me too!
Same
Can you do one on dryers? You could let people know that you have to also clean the vent that connects to the back of the dryer. And that part in the wall.
My machine is a bit older, but it lets me set temp, spin speed, and agitation speed separately, with the programs being presets to work off of. It is really nice to be able to play around with.
Many good tips. Liked what you explained about vinegar. I knew it was good but didn't know all the advantages and when to use it
That black tube next to your filter is so you can drain the water out in a more controlled manner (I usually use a ziplock because it’s easier for me) before you open the filter.
I have similar washer... this was useful. Also you can pause it after pushing start and change temp of cyclye...for exampke, in normal
Really appreciate all your hints over the years! Just an FYI, “you’re” means “you are,” not “thing that belongs to you.” No judgment-just wanting to help.😉
Came to say this. Not sure if titles can be changed but I would change it.
If you have a top loading washing machine, you can use it for laundry stripping. Just fill your machine with water, pause the rinse cycle and let the clothes soak. Then let it rinse and wash on your normal cycle.
Hi! What is laundry stripping? TY!
@HisLove4You did u watch her video?
@HisLove4You
It's a process of soaking your clothes to remove residue your detergent and softener left behind on the clothes. You're left with cleaner, softer clothes. Don't hesitate to ask questions in the comments. That's what they're used for 😊
@vi9763 You are a doll, thank you so much 🥰 I'm always multi-tasking and I missed that info 😆 Cant wait to try! Thanks and blessings! ❤️
How much vinegar do you add to the bleach compartment when running a load of laundry?
I also like to empty after every wash.
Aw man I hate that! The only downside of the top load is I’m 34 weeks pregnant and it is getting harder to get things out of 🤣.
Me too! After close to 20 years of *loathing* my front loader and praying for it to die, when it finally did I replaced it with a top loader and laundry day is so much better now.
Same here! My top loader has lasted 16 years and so far so good! Front loaders are definitely higher maintenance.
I had for 12+ yrs a front loading combo unit (then later just the front loading washer) in our motorhome - I hated that it's was always stinky & moldy (even with cleaning &keeping it open to air out)
Now we're back into a regular home again & finally got my top loading washer back ❤❤❤❤
I'm from the UK and I've never had a smelly washing machine, I never leave the detergent drawer open and the washer door, I close it but not on the catch. People are washing on quick washes and cold or cold ish water all the time and then wonder why bacteria starts building up.
Speed Queen is the best IMO! Unfortunately we left ours when we moved, and the previous owners left us their LG! Nooooo 😩🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Great video! I did not know about borax, washing soda or that the soap dispenser comes out. Thanks!!!
I don’t even have any kids but I subscribe to your channel for great info like this!
So many different opinions out there…🤔
“To each his own”- I guess….😅
@@sherbear2016 😆
Please make a video about the dryer 🙏🏼
I only put white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment because fabric softeners are part of the cause of dryer fires (heat, accelerant, and combustible).
My next washer will be a top loader.
Thanks for the video. This was really helpful for me as I never read the booklets that come with my machinery. 😢
We have the same washer and this was so useful!
When cleaning let out the water on the left of the filter before taking the filter out. Use a low dish to collect the yucky water with residues and softener, it will be gross and smelly but will help to remove odors of water just sitting there in your machine. Plus leave machine door and drawer open.
This was great information. I really appreciate you letting us know!😊
Totally off topic…. I love to see you in bright colors! When I first started watching, you were in greys and blacks most often… love the Bright!❤
* Your.
The laundry striping dirty water is most likely dyes coming out of the fabrics. Just saying. Not being nasty.
I thought this too. X
Agreed. I have always thought this when I see the laundry stripping videos because they use hot water.
If you use the color catchers (which start out white), when you wash your colors or darks , even in cold water on the delicate cycle, they come out with color on them because there is a lot of dye floating around in the water.
I agree 100% - I think most of it is dye, not dirt.
Nope...I've done this with all white towels...water still dirty
I use a similar washing machine so this was very helpful! Thank you ✨️
Great tips Kallie Thanks🧺
Yes as soon as you guy a washing machine you must as many questions as you can also what about the adult friends and roles models in your life..did the not experience that issue.
Vinegar is hard on rubber seals.
Yes! This is why I stopped using it. I heard many repairmen say this.
And yet it was actually my repairman who told me 18 years ago to use vinegar in my loads. It’s strange how different the advice is that we get from various repairmen. 🤔
@@sherbear2016yes a 5% acid diluted in all that water won't do anything to the seals.
@@teresamoore4126 Yep! That’s what I’ve used all these years and had no problem with my washer.
@ well, I will err on the side of caution. Repairs are spendy! 😊
Great tips. Thank you for sharing.
Two things people should keep in mind,
Firstly read your machines manual and know WHEN in the cycle each chemical is dispensed.
What do I put in the prewash compartment? Regular detergent?
yep , I use it sometimes to add sodium percarbonate/oxygen bleach to whiten cleaning cloths without effecting the space for main wash soap
Who knew?! Thanks Callie!
You are definitely not alone lol. Thanks for the tips❤
I did not know some of these! Thank you!!
Finally your video came was waiting for it.❤️
Very good information. Vinegar is a chemical though.
To clean the mold out, you can use hydrogen peroxide. It really kills that pink mold. I use it in my sinks and showers too.
I use baking soda in my laundry. It eliminates odors.
I've been doing that since
1980. It also softens water
& eliminates a lot of ironing,
my least favourite thing !
I clean my top loader every month. I also clean my dishwasher.
Some other tips - Before removing the bottom filter to clean first unclip the small hose to the left of the filter & empty any water into a shallow tray. When taking out and cleaning the detergent tray don’t forget to also wipe inside the machine slot.
Thanks for the tips !!❤
I read this in a newspaper article as well.
Just curious, why add vinegar to the bleach compartment instead of softener compartment?
Love you guys!
My normal cycle defaults to cold water. Whites and towels settings end up being hot. However I’ve noticed if I use fabric softener, it dispenses at the beginning of the cycle on my front load. So I have to catch it when it’s going to the rinse cycle.
Not only clean the drawer, but above it where the water and detergent splashes up too.
Not sure if you know. But after cleaning the filter on your washing machine. There’s a black hose that needs to be unplugged to release yucky water. You need to place a bowl underneath to catch the dirty water then replace the plug. ❤
Very helpful!
I have known this since growing up, watchin my mother do the laundry.
She never used softener, I don't use it either.
Just to clarify, should the vinegar go in the bleach compartment or the softener compartment?
Bleach compartment. If you put it in softener compartment you might end up with clothes smelling like vinegar as fabric softener is released during spin cycle towards the end.
I have the same washer. Those seals are a nightmare. I do most on normal but I tweak the temperature and speed as needed
I have a mold problem in my basement (on the walls). But I never have mold in my washer. I always leave the door open when not on use.
My washer is SO different from yours. But this video did motivate me to look into how better to use my washer (which I hate). (I hate my washer - not your motivation!)
Terrific, thanks!
I think you should put the vinegar in the softener compartment, not the bleach one (at least according to the laundry experts I watch)
Didn’t know any of these things. Thank you!
How much vinegar do you add?
We have a top load washer and have an option for cold water for normal mode.
