    I love this discussion! This not a favorite book I share or flaunt, but it gets a bit lonely liking it all alone. I totally agree with what you say about reading it a second time. Things completely change and what seemed like little moments become much more! The second reread is so much more funny, like you said. lol
    We've been waiting YEARS for the big Captive Prince news. I hope you'll have a video over that, whatever it is, as well.

    CP trilogy is one, if not the one, of my favourite series. I just love everything about these books and don't even start me on Laurent. I have such a strong attachment to this character, so I totally get you overanalysing his every word and move, because I do the same. I could literally write a thesis on him (and in some way I did, although it was an oral presentation at the uni, my teacher had to literally cut my speech short because I was unstoppable ;P).
    That's why it pains me so much when people call this series trash and judge it without even reading it properly. Because you WON'T be able to get the characters and their motives, especially Laurent's, if you don't read the whole series. Even after 4 rereads I still catch some tidbits which I haven't been able to notice before and it's incredible. I totally get that the topic and the actions of some characters are highly morally questionable but if you know that those things are not for you just don't read the book. (Another reason why I think ALL books should come with a list of content warnings, it's a perfect solution for all of those who are not comfortable with certain topics). And of course, people are allowed to dislike anything but this dislike should backed by knowledge, not just assumptions and half truths.

    Just read the whole trilogy for the first time (in 2 two days cause I couldn't stop xD) and I am so glad I found your videos (first on tiktok) cause I don't know anyone who has read it and I just need more content xD
    I just love what you mentioned about Pacats writing style with the little hints that are explained MUCH later. Definitely gonna reread it at some point. I think Laurents actions in the first book seem so different after you know everything. He is just such an interesting character in general. I was always amazed who he planned everything way beforehand (more so in the second volume, hope I have time to watch the video about that one soon) 😁

      Yayyy! Welcome to the club, there can never be enough Captive Prince content 😂 The first and second read of the trilogy are drastically different since Laurent's backstory changes everything. On his side things are much more complicated and complex--which is also why I'd low-key love to see a Laurent POV if Pacat ever publishes one 👀 She also manages to write her characters with such... believability? I'm not quite sure how to explain it, but to use an example that isn't Laurent or Damen, I initially never cared for Ancel. He's really only present for that horrible scene to take place and that was it. But then, in The Summer Palace and Other Stories, Pacat fleshes Ancel out and suddenly I think he should have his own book which was the last thing I expected to think for that character! And of course, though we never see Auguste, we can easily believe Laurent was once that bookish boy trailing his big brother around, aghhh my heart! 🥺😭❤️

      @@sydnarrative Yes Laurent just always surprised me with his big brain moves xD A POV from him would be interesting but at the same time I think it works best like this because you don't see it coming and Damen never really knows what's going on in Laurents head and that makes him seem even smarter. And yes omg Ancel. Just finished the short stories yesterday cause I initially didn't know they existed and Ancels story was so interesting! I saw some memes and stuff before and was like Hm people really seem to like Ancel but he was just in the first book and not for that long 🤔 but now I understand xD The story also ended kinda open, I would like to know how his relationship with Berenger changed after that. I wonder if there will ever be more content for Captive Prince from the author, I hope so 😌
      But I am also excited about the new trilogy. I might even buy it directly when it comes out (and not wait for the translation, since I am from Germany. But I often read stuff in English so it should be fine 🤔)

    • @sydnarrative
      @sydnarrative  3 года назад +1

      True, a full book with Laurent's POV would take away the intrigue. Perhaps a short story of little Laurent and Auguste would be better 😆 And yes! I was so confused when I saw all the fanart and memes online for certain characters, even Laurent and Damen when I was still in the process of reading the books. Also Ancel's short story ended so abruptly, I really liked his dynamic with Berenger, but as you said I'd love to see how their relationship turns out. Omg, more Captive Prince content yes pleeease! Pacat said there will be merchandise released later this year 👀 but I wonder what kind of things they'll make? I'd be down for Nicaise's sapphire earrings. Official hardcover books of the series would also be really nice! Hopefully the German translations of Dark Rise don't take too long, I'm not sure how the whole process of books getting translated into other languages works but I suppose how much the book sells in English will determine that? I've pre-ordered it with express shipping, but if it doesn't get to Australia on time I might just buy a copy from the bookstore because I'm eager! But it will be interesting to see where Pacat goes with Dark Rise, especially with a wide cast of character POVs.

      @@sydnarrative Yes just more short stories in general would be nice, there are so many interesting characters I would like to know more about or just see them again. And merch omg that's exciting 😍
      Well I will get the ebook version anyways (don't really have space for books since I already have a big manga collection 😅) but since translation can take up to a year (idk much about it either but I've seen books where it took that long or even never happened) I guess I will get the english one if I can't wait any longer 😁 I am also thinking about getting the Fence comics but I haven't looked into reviews yet 🤔

    No the reason why the regent wanted to frame Damen is because He refused to tell him the extent of what happened on the night of the assassination, he don’t care he just trying to spark a war and they both are his trust funds, also the horse was poisoned didn’t hear you mentioned that. And the BJ assault in the gardens from Laurent’s pov it seemed more of a trauma response because he wasn’t enjoying it actually I believe damen pointed out that he seem irritated,
    Spoilers:
    and nicaise and Aimeric are ppl Laurent identifies with because they were all promised, at some point, the regents love. That’s why Laurent gets so angry towards the end of prince gambit cause he is so mad that aimeric is so pathetic and not able to see that he was a pawn of the regents game, which Laurent manage to survive barely keeping his head above water. And then drives aimeric to commit suicide because both Laurent and the regent have no use for him anymore

      I’m my point of virew ofc, what I love about Pacat is that we the readers get to interpret her writing in our own way, maybe that’s why there is a rift of hatred and loving of the series
