Good one Brian I have all the DISM commands stored in a document and just copy / paste the command I want into the command prompt and have found this does save a lot of time in finding the DISM commands via the web. I do like the extra bit you added about that install.wim procedure too.

I bought a Lenovo P52 top of the range 8850H at Xmas and used it 5x over this year and slowly been getting it ready (taking bloatware out, inst additional new Solidigm 2TB nvme etc. I have 6 Lenovo i7s from the years and ex pc repairer over the yrs) as a main dj backup laptop. Win 10 updated last night and kb5030211 update seems to have BSOD the system. No boot so instead of using an old w10 image I'm currently downloading the Ventoy solution as I type. Been following your channel a while to keep myself in the know. Pity I couldn't get into OS via command prompt. Thanks for the great tech stuff you do. 😄👍

Good video, Brian. I actually followed it in its entirety, and the first one did actually fine and successfully repair corrupted files. I didn't know theey were there, and there were no issues, but I suspect they were there as I recently had reason to do a hard shutdown. Anyway I ran the other commands, and everything's ok now. Good stuff.

Can I use the offline command if the system won't boot after repairing the boot if yes is it required to mount the source image if it can be done

  • @Don27041970

Hi Brian, me again. Just to say the only problem I had before following your tutorial was the mouse cursor was lagging a bit occasionally, as if the batteries were flat. Tried updating the drivers and new batteries to no avail. However repopulating the system files seems to have improcved this, so perhaps corrupted system files may have caused it not to work properly. Just as an aside it would be soooo nice if you'd a tweak that would reinstate the Windows 10 file explorer ribbon on Windows 11. I miss it. There is a trick: If you open control panal, then click the little arrow at the search bar, and click "This PC", it will open file explorer with the Windows 10 ribbon. That's probably dissapear too..........But hey...... I enjoy your videos.

@@Britec09 True, but the Windows 10 box always finds corrupt files and fixes them, just my way of trying to head off future problems where I might not be able to run the terminal commands. Strangely the Windows 11 box very rarely ever finds corrupt files, so I do that once a month

You will be doing a offline recovery using dism

  • @grahamsmith2753
    @grahamsmith2753 10 месяцев назад +1

Brian. I tried your method, but it failed to rectify the problem, even in Safe Mode. sfc /scannow would not complete the scan. Neither would DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. I even converted install.esd to install.wim, and tried your method. Nothing worked. I had DISM error 605 "The specified buffer contains ill formed data". In the end, I mounted the .ISO and ran setup.exe. Once you run this, there is an option to "Keep personal files, apps, and Windows settings". I did this, and it fixed everything. The only difference to my initial setup was that all my desktop icons had been randomly moved around my desktop (as in Safe Mode), and Bluetooth and OneDrive icons had reappeared in my Taskbar. I disabled Bluetooth and uninstalled Onedrive. All done. The process takes a while, but it works.

That's like the pre-Windows 11 'repair-install' command and it tends to fix most issues. Might be overkill but it does the job. It's definitely the last resort before the ye olde 'format and and full reinstall', something no one wants to do.

Mybpc was working fine of not a bit slow. I updated to the latest update but now if I turn on the pc I either get the asus logo and spining logo for about an hour with nothing happening. Or it boots and spends ages trying to update on boot

I've run all the DISM and SFC actions - and Chkdsk - and all show clean but when I try to re-install Windows 10 (from online, ISO and USB) without losing apps or data it appears to go through the process but then at the final point where it should reboot it comes up with a small 'Installation Failed' popup window and nothing has changed.
    Any thoughts please?

You're probably left with the 'standard' last resort option - format and full reinstall of windows, unfortunately.

Thx Brian. I have been trying this on and off for 2 months now. First there is no mount command in the drop down folder. And my ISO file is in zip format. Ran this. C:\Windows\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

I don't know what to do at this point.
    Trying again at DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
With windows update now from yesterday see if it works. :)
EDIT: source file can't be found.
Had to unzip to desktop C: drive and source file can't be found. And I can't mount in windows 10
I had enough going to reinstall windows.
