- Gene Autry tries to cool down a hot headed knife thrower with the humorous musical number "I Tipped My Hat and Slowly Rode Away" from the 1947 Republic Pictures film "Twilight on the Rio Grande." That's Sterling Holloway as Pokie starting off the number and the Cass County Boys providing accompaniment. Actress Adele Mara gives the feisty performance as knife thrower Elena Del Rio.

I TIPPED MY HAT AND SLOWLY RODE AWAY
Sterling Holloway:
I HAD ME TWO TRUSTY PISTOLS
HAD ME TWO LEATHER HOLSTERS HANGIN' BY MY SIDE
I HAD A TWO GAITED PONY
'TILL THE DAY MATRIMONY TOOK MY BRIDLE AND GAVE ME A BRIDE
Gene Autry:
HAD ME TWO TRUSTY PISTOLS
HAD ME TWO LEATHER HOLSTERS HANGIN' BY MY SIDE
HAD A TWO GAITED PONY
‘TILL THE DAY MATRIMONY TOOK MY BRIDLE AND GAVE ME A BRIDE
I WAS RIDIN' DOWN THE TRAIL TO SANTA FE
WHEN I MET A PRETY GAL ALONG THE WAY
I SAID "AIN'T WE MET BEFORE"
THEN SHE DREW HER FORTY FOUR
SO I TIPPED MY HAT AND SLOWLY RODE AWAY
I WENT RIDIN' DOWN THE TRAIL TO SANTA FE
WHEN I MET ANOTHER GAL ALONG THE WAY
I SAID "BABY YOU'RE A DREAM"
SHE SAID "TOUCH ME AND I'LL SCREAM"
SO I TIPPED MY HAT AND SLOWLY RODE AWAY
RODE AWAY, RODE AWAY
'CAUSE THERE WASN'T NO EXCUSE FOR ME TO STAY
I TIPPED MY HAT, AND THAT WAS THAT
YES I LEFT THAT KITTEN SITTIN' WHERE SHE SAT
I CONTINUED DOWN THE TRAIL TO SANTA FE
WHEN I MET ANOTHER GAL ALONG THE WAY
I SAID "ARE YOU TAKEN TOO"
SHE SAID "PARTNER I'LL TAKE YOU"
SO I TIPPED MY HAT AND SETTLED DOWN TO STAY
I SETTLED DOWN (SETTLED DOWN), SETTLED DOWN (SETTLED DOWN)
HOW I CURSED THE DAY I EVER RODE TO TOWN
WHAT A LIFE (WHAT A LIFE), WHAT A LIFE (WHAT A LIFE)
EVER SINCE THE DAY I TOOK MYSELF A WIFE
IF YOU EVER RIDE THE TRAIL TO SANTA FE
AND YOU MEET A PRETTY GAL ALONG THE WAY
BETTER STOP AND THINK OF ME
I WAS HAPPY I WAS FREE
WHEN I TIPPED MY HAT AND SLOWLY RODE AWAY
I TIPPED MY HAT AND SLOWLY RODE AWAY

The hot headed knife thrower reminds me of the actress Anna Navarro in the Perry Mason episode, “The Case of the Lonely Heiress (1 February 1958).”
It's amazing how Sterling is the voice of Ka the Snake, Winnie the Pooh, and several cartoon narrators. He was the Jim Cummings of his day.
he did a few of the disney shorts as well. peter and the wolf, susie the little blue coupe. definitely had a similar voice career as cummings, or even lorenzo music, who beat him out to play garfield.
My mans didn't flinch once👏🏾👏🏾

That is older western star Bob Steele in the scene, later played Trooper Duffy on F Troop.
