I’ve been making soap for YEARS but for some reason I had it in my head that making lotion was difficult, expensive, time consuming, or needed a lot of chemicals I didn’t have access to. (Coming from a soaper! Hah!) I made this lotion last night and Marie. MARIE. I am in love. Addicted. Thank you so much for making lotion-making and DIY so accessible for us. Gonna go slather on some more of this!
YAY! I'm so thrilled :D Once you're comfortable with soap most things should be pretty simple (and inexpensive-no lotion eats EOs like soap does!) in comparison-welcome to the lotion-y wonderland!
I love that you inform me about the products and give explanations on why you use a certain ingredient and how it fits into the over all quality of the product
Thanks so much for watching, and happy making!
This recipe speaks to me! My skin is so dry and itchy from the cool temperatures and my dry heat! I can not wait to make this today! Thank you for sharing!
Enjoy! I've been slathering myself in this for months now :)
This looks beautiful. This is on my list to make. I made your lady london fog and your macadamia lotion this past week and they're both gorgeous recipes. I'm so glad I found your channel ❤
I just made it and it came out absolutely amazing. Your measurements were so accurate and easy to incorporate. Thanks a lot Marie for the fantastic work you are doing. I am so happy to find a mentor like you.😊😊
I'm so thrilled you're enjoying it! Happy making :)
Hi marie, i just wanna take the time to thank you for the amazing effort you've put into making these vids and blog. The informations you give are on-point and easy to understand, the demos are entertaining to watch (and so neat!), and your way with handling the tools look so professional haha. I know at some point of every video there will be a new lesson to learn from you :D
Thank you so much! :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe hi there! I don't have silk what else can I use?
S4 Z
I just have to say... I've made this body cream so many times over the coarse of 5 years. It's my Go-To for body cream - I love it. I've given it to friends and family with confidence that they will love it too - and they do!
I just bought all the ingredients. I’m so excited to make this. Thank you for the video. I love your calming and encouraging voice. You are so talented.
❤️ Thank you so much!
Don't forget to check out my blog (humblebeeandme.com) as well-I've been blogging since 2011 while I’ve only been on RUclips since about 2016, so there are a lot more formulations on the blog. The blog is also where my ingredient encyclopedia and FAQ live, and they're both packed with tons of super-helpful information ❤️ Happy making!
Thank you am going to make with a few modifications adding flaxseed gel and rosewater
I made this yesterday and I really love it!
Yay, I am so glad! I still have the jar from this video and it's still going strong :)

Thanks so much 😊
This is my absolute favorite lotion, LOVE IT, thanks Marie
I'm so thrilled you love it, Lin! Fun story-I actually still have this exact lotion from the video, 4+ years later, and it's still totally fine. No signs of spoilage at all :D
Marie. Have you or have you ever thought of doing Microbial testing for your more "ThrowBack," products, like this one that you still have? Or to do a full scale test on the integrity/stability/expiration of it? I think that would be an AMAZING video (maybe even an exclusive Patreon video)
all your videos are excellent. Thanks
Thanks, Barbara!
I've been meaning to make this for a month. I love Lush's Dream Cream but do not love the parabens and synthetic fragrances they use. I'm inspired to make this today. Thanks!
Let me know how it turns out :) Happy making and thanks for watching!
Hello Marie!, I am Happy because i could make this cream and it worked. Before i tried to make creams without the emulsifyer wax and it didnt worked. Thanks you for your video!!
Yay! I'm so happy you're having success :) Woo!
I'm so glad I found you again Marie!
Welcome back! ❤️
Very well put together. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I love your videos, so glad I found you!
Thanks so much, Toy! Happy making and thanks for watching :)
I love your videos! They are so useful, interesting and informative! Thank you! Do you also show how to make an every-day face moisturizer?
Thanks! I recently shared a face cream on my blog that is awesome :) humblebeeandme.com/winter-solstice-face-cream/ I've been blogging for about 5.5 years while I've only been on RUclips since June, so there is WAY more stuff on the blog :)
This recipe looks great! I think it would work well for my husband who has dry skin. I have some roasted cocoa butter from Mountain Rose Herbs. It smells delicious on it's own and I think he would love it!
OOooh, ROASTED cocoa butter?! SWOON!
Hi, swaroopa from India, your videos and blogs are very good.....and easily understood for beginners....ty very much....
Thanks for watching!
THANK YOU!! I recently had an allergic reaction to laundry detergent that caused hives all over (don’t worry, i went to see a doctor and I’m alright) and now I’m making this super soothing lotion for myself to help the itching die down. I figure, if I’m going to be miserable while I wait for my skin to heal, I might as well turn it good and make something nice for myself ^^
Good idea! I would recommend replacing the essential oils with more distilled water if your skin is already irritated :) happy making!
Thank you so much, it's much less intimidating to see you do it! Your videos are awesome :)
Thanks, Jeanna! Happy making :D
Hiya, I have just finished making this lotion - only altered the essential oils and I put in less. It’s very light but moisturising which is great. Only thing I was hesitant about was the preservative. I used Phenoxyethanol liquid. I measured out one gram but it seemed a lot so I just used a 1/4 tsp ... any comments on this?? I would like to know what this would look like if there is any mould or bacteria growing so I know to stop using.
Thanks for posting this 😊
Thank you so much for your efforts. God bless you
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing.
Hello from Romania! I like you very much. I like your style. You do an excellent job. Keep going! : )
Thanks so much for watching!
Hi!! I just found your RUclips channel! I’m loving it. Question: can I substitute Mango Butter or Unrefined Shea Butter for Cocoa Butter? Also, can I add different essential oils than they one you chose?
Hi Marie, do you have any recipes for face cream? I looking forward to it. Thank you
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Hi Marie. I enjoy your videos very much. I like your choices of oils and fragrances and the simple straightforward instructions. I also enjoy your cheery personality and hearing tidbits about wondrous Canada. Thank you so much for your efforts! I would also like to see you use some natural botanical colorants every now and then. Just a dab of spirulina or turmeric or beef powder to throw another dimension into the mix. Beautiful! Thanks again.
Thanks so much for watching! I rarely use botanical colours (and never beef powder! I'm vegetarian and that is one weird thing to put in anything... especially for colour lol. Why wouldn't you use any of the other multitudes of brown things that won't attract a ton of bacteria?). They are pretty weak and oxidize quickly in the presence of water, giving you brown or grey after a couple weeks. They also make products harder to preserve, so if I am including an ingredient solely for colour, I typically choose a pigment or mica (though soap is a slightly different story and a whole different can of worms!). Check out this video (ruclips.net/video/v9XTLhZFrT0/видео.html) to see some of that in action :)
Humblebee & Me
Oh my! I meant beet, not beef. Sorry. I think a little subtle color of any kind is nice. Just my view. Thank you.
Amazing teacher and looks like a beautiful result! I’m signing up for your online course for sure
Thank you so much & welcome!
Hi Marie, I've made your Dream Cream a few times and love it!! My lotion gets super thick though and I have a heck of a time putting it in my lotion bottles. Is there a way to thin it out a bit without messing up the recipe?
Hi may i ask what is this used for and what's it's benefits? thank you so much
Hi, thank you for this... so you have a video for lush oat creamy dreamy? They have discontinued and ots the only thing I can wash with..thanks
Thank you Marie, this cream looks so silky and beautiful. I have been using your tallow balm for my dry skin, but now I´ll try this one. Is it possible to make it with tallow?
Thanks Am! You could use tallow instead of the cocoa butter here, but it will create a softer final lotion :) Happy making!
is it possible to use another liquid oil for this recipe other than olive?
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. Can we use oat milk instead of water.
She said yes in the video.
hey! love the video but is there anyway you can tweak this to make a shower cream? Lush have recently discontinued there oaty dreamy creamy and im sure many of your followers are aware it was one of the best things for psoriasis or eczema so im really hoping to make something similair, thanks
What alternatives can I use to make the propolis tincture? I have only Tito's vodka and can't find anything else at the stores right now. Would Tito's Organic vodka work?
If I keep this in the fridge, is the preservative still necessary?
Hi Marie, I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while now and love what you do and how you do it. I live in India. Need a lil help from you. I’ve acne rosacea and nothing really suits me so I’ve decided to make my own oats face cream at home. Could you help with a simpler ingredients? Can I just use oat milk, hyaluronic acid/ glycerin, vitamin E etc and just combine?
Hi, i enjoy your videos and how you simplify the methods. I love making my own cream, my question is the 25 percent oils and 75 percent water ratio does this apply to both face and body cream.
It can, if you want it to, but there's no hard and fast rules-as long as your emulsifier can handle the ratio you want you can do whatever you want :)
Thank you so much for all your videos , you definitely deserve our support. I just have one question: what if I want to add alpha arbutin powder to this mixture? When do I add it? I know it is water soluble but you shouldn't put it when the water is hot ,, so what to do ?
Check out this FAQ to learn more :) www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/how-can-i-incorporate-x-ingredient-into-a-formulation/
I just made this lotion, my first lotion ever! And my impressions are: the consistency and absorption are excellent, it's a far superior lotion than the ones available at the supermarket, keeps my dry skin hydrated. But for me the smell was too intoxicating, I think less chamomile essential oil would be better, did somebody else out there felt that 12 drops of it just took over the whole thing? Besides, I wanted to add some color to it and then I added 1/8 tsp of purple mica by TKB Trading (the one called Aster Hu), but guess what? It made it kind of grey, like a clay color. Why do you think that happened? It has to do with the color of the olive oil or cocoa butter? the color was kind of beige before I added the mica. You can tell I know nothing about colorants since I thought it would be so simple as to put some mica into it and have the final color just like the mica color. Any thoughts on that, please? Thank you for the recipe, I'll remake it for sure.
Beige + a small amount of pale purple will give you a coolish grey, which is right in line with what happened :) You could try a punchier purple, or try using more. In a lotion that is more white you won't get that added yellow note and the purple will be "cleaner" :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe
Thank you for this video ,
Can i used this cream for face.
Can we use milk instead of colloidal oat meal
How to you clean your items after using oils?
Marie, thank you so much for sharing. I love your videos and recipes. I had created some of your recipe, cause my mom have sensitive skin. From soap to shampoo, I make it my self for her and entire family. I feel safe use my own products.
I want to try make this lotion too. I have everything except glycerin (that's weird eh). If I want to buy it, it has to be 500gr here in my country. Less than that, is so expensive. I wonder if I can make lotion without it? Or maybe substitute it with another oil?
Honestly, glycerin is so incredibly useful and lasts a long time that I would just get the 500g. Otherwise, you'll find many substitution suggestions in the Humblebee & Me Encyclopedia at www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia. Simply look up the ingredients in question to learn about why they are used in formulas, what they do, usage rates, and more. Happy making!
Great video
Thanks for watching! Don't forget to check out my blog (humblebeeandme.com)-I've been blogging since 2011 while I’ve only been on RUclips since about 2016, so there is TONS more content on the blog!
Marie, thanks so much for sharing this beautiful recipe! Quick question: how long does liquid germall plus usually preserve the lotion? I've been searching for whole couple days yet haven't find any convincing answer. Thank you!:)
I've had lotions preserved with Liquid Germall Plus (INCI: Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate) last upwards of 4 years-and after that they still haven't spoiled, but sometimes have gone rancid or I'll just chuck it 'cause it's been 4 years :) So, in short, it works really well! I still have this exact cream I made in this video and it's still fine!
Can I add kojic acid , alpha Arbutin powder,as well as raspberry powder and rose oil ? And what proportions do you need to add so that the creamy ,wet formula of the cream doesn’t change?
Just found your chanel woow amazing
So thankful
Why did u stop posting videos 😅
What if you don’t have silk will it work still
I've tried your other lotion recipe and loved it! I'm wondering where you got your spatulas from? I love them. Love your vids ty for sharing
Everything is linked in the description box below the video :)
Oh, I didn't know that lol. I searched a long time until I finally found them on amazon. I believe I checked the place you mentioned, I cant remember the name, I think it was a thrift shop or I could have been way off on my search but I did find them. I really like your videos. I feel like when I watch your vids, I feel inspired to make so many things.
I'm glad you eventually found them, they're amazeballs! I have so many haha. And thank you for watching! :)
About how long does it keep? Does it have to be refrigerated? Or does the preservative to a good job of keeping?
Where can I purchase the spatulas? Great Job thank you for the video.
It's all linked in the description box.
This is such a wonderful soothing lotion. The first time i made it, i bought what said colloidal oatmeal from my health foods store and it must have not been sifted correctly, or they were just ground up oats and i had a very chunky or gritty lotion.lol it still left my skin feeling nice.lol i ended up turning it into a in shower lotion and re made a batch with actual colloidal oatmeal.lol anyhow, I had a question. So a just got this lotion kit my husband thought I'd like and in the kit, they have potassium sorbate and citric acid to use as the preservative, and i am a bit worried it might not be effective enough. although I have seen this in a ton of commercial products and know its a food grade preservative. But is it really effective enough to preserve a homemade lotion? curious to get your input on the matter. would be pretty awesome if it is because ive got a big ol' bag of it and have always had a ton of citric acid in my house.
Hmm-I wonder if food grade colloidal oatmeal differs from cosmetic grade in terms of the mesh? It's definitely a bit funny that you ended up with a lumpy lotion, though not at all ideal! I would agree that potassium sorbate and citric acid are not going to be sufficient; do a search for it on this page: www.makingskincare.com/preservatives/. You'll see it is part of many preservatives, but not a preservative on its own! The citric acid is just for buffering the pH, it has no preservative abilities on its own.
Hi thanks for sharing such a great recipe...quick question what is the shelf life of this product nd can i use phenoxethol instead of grrman plus???
For shelf life, read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/long-will-______-last-shelf-life/. Do you mean "Phenoxyethanol"? Phenoxyethanol is not a complete/broad-spectrum preservative, so it is not recommended at all unless as part of a complete broad-spectrum preservative (it can be found in many preservative blends). There's lots of great information here: www.makingskincare.com/preservatives/.
Hi there! I really enjoyed this video esp so because of my very dry skin and I have been told colloidal oatmeal is great for skin types like mine :) A quick question for you- how do you come up with your proportions? Such as how much C.oatmeal to use, emulsifiers, oils, essential oils, etc?
Thanks! That's really not a quick question, though :P Try watching some of the videos in this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PL4cZgaY9j7fNA8ChWecMdgOVsdIAVAcXE :)
Hey Marie, Can I use on baby skin ? Thanks for another great video.
Hey Camasha! If you're going to use this on a baby you should leave out the essential oils, but other than that it would be great for babies :)
With oat meal its sensitive skin friendly?
Waw Marie! You are the best! Thank you so much for keeping your ingredients always simple and thank you for the great content that you offer us everytime. I’m literally starting only now my journey with homemade products and I been looking for many days at videos that explains me everything in a easy way and here I’m ! I’m really excited to start my first product, once I do so I will tag you on it on Instagram! What’s your Instagram? Much love from London 😘😘😘
Marie- Great job on the video! I was wondering if the cream will work in a pump style container versus jar type. Thank you
Thanks Heather! It's a pretty thick lotion, so I'd make sure your pump is fairly sturdy, but it should work :)
Hi Marie, new here and loving your videos thank you! I prefer pump lotion. Can you suggest please how to modify this recipe to be better suited for a pump, ie thinner?
Hi Marie! Could you make a cream recipe with Shea butter and oats for the skin? I don’t know what the proportions would be, how to store it and if those just 2 ingredients are enough. I wanted to make it simple for the skin so it could be a gentle absorption and not a complex for the skin
Thank you sooo much!
You could just mash together shea butter and colloidal oats, but I don't think you'd enjoy that very much. Maybe give this recipe a try? www.humblebeeandme.com/healing-herbal-hemp-shea-lotion/
Awesome video! I've been buying Lush dream cream for my sons eczema and it gets so pricey.
I know this is an old video but if youre still around, do you think I'd need to add the preservative if I'll be using this lotion within a few days? We go through a lot of lotion lol. And I'm also curious if you know how much it costed to make this one container of lotion for you
Definetly is cheaper do it your self.
Can I use oatmeal grounded by myself instead of colloidal oatmeal?
I love Lush Dream Cream, it also smells yummy!
I don't recommend it-it's not going to fully dissolve and will result in a lumpy/gritty end product. Happy making!
As far are you know, is there a way to make the colloidal oatmeal by grinding and sifting at home?
LisaLise wrote a whole blog on this! www.lisaliseblog.com/2017/03/what-makes-colloidal-oatmeal-colloidal.html
I do it all the time...you'll need to blend it really well...then keep blending. If you see any difference in color...keep going. I never sift... it comes out amazing.
Can you do a whitening or lighting lotion????and what products can we use?
I'm not touching lightening stuff: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/kind-recipes-will-not-appear-humblebee/. The active ingredients an actual whitening concoction will use use are not suitable for hobbiest DIYers.
hello
i really love ur video, plz i'll like to make this recipe for my 4 years old daughter who has a dr, itching and very sensitive skin. but i couldnt get the liquid germall plus preserveative i could only get NIPAGIM(METIL PARABEN) 'I didnt see this in ur list of recomended preservative, but plz i want to know if in can use it cos thats the only alternative i have here. thanks
Hey! I wouldn't recommend it-you can read more here: www.makingskincare.com/preservatives/ :)
I truly love watching your videos I learned so much. I watch the video and you'll soothing series and there was an ingredient that you used and no cream or butter so that it wouldn't be greasy I can't find the video or remember the ingredient can you please help thank you
Probably isopropyl myristate :) www.humblebeeandme.com/project/isopropyl-myristate/
I'm going to make this today minus the silk, eo and oats. I can't use eo they give me eczema. are there any natural alternatives for a fragrance?
Hey Elizabeth! The cocoa butter will lend a chocolatey scent if you use unrefined stuff, and you could use rose water instead of water to get a hint of a rose scent as well :) Happy making and thanks for watching!
I can almost smell this! Great eo choices ... can't wait to try this! All I have on hand is "emulsifying wax" 😥 So I need 'emulsifying wax NF' some silk & colloidal oatmeal... Really looks loverly 😁
Hey Pam! Do you have the INCI of that emulsifying wax? If it's complete it'll work :) Also, if you check the link in the description box there's an alternative to making this with oats instead of colloidal oatmeal, and the silk is optional... so yo umight be able to make it today!
Hey Queen Bee 😎 just says it's a 'vegetable based wax, and may be used as a medium within cosmetics to help bind water & oil, adding a smooth consistency to finished products". Not sure if I can say who I bought it from.
Hmm... that's not terribly promising :/ That "may" is a bit suspicious! Have you successfully used it in lotions before without a co-emulsifier? There are "emulsifying waxes" for sale that are incomplete, which is silly and misleading.
I agree about the "may" also. I haven't even opened the bag yet, so nope ~ haven't made a lotion .... yet. I may try today. I'll keep you posted! Thx, btw, love your videos!
Thanks for watching and happy making! :D
Smart!! Girl!👍
Thanks for watching!
Is it possible to make a lotion without water. I mean use rosewater for water part? Thanks alot for your videos
Hey! You'll find the answer to your question in my FAQ on my website at humblebeeandme.com/faq/ (What can I use instead of water?) 😊Happy making!
Your blog says you never actually tried lush’s dream cream before. How do you know what the scent is in order to duplicate it?
Is there something I could add to a basic cream mixture to make it more lotiony? To thin it out so to speak, so that it could work nicely in a pump?
The whole thing would need to be re-formulated and re-made, reducing the oil phase + increasing the size of the water phase. I've shared many pumpable lotions, too-check out this one: www.humblebeeandme.com/mango-mango-body-lotion/. Happy making!
Like the South African Chamomile. Like your video well presented. I have a few Aloe Vera plants standing in pots outside. Do you have a recipe for Aloe Vera. Thanks Marie.
Thanks, George! Aloe straight from the plant is difficult to use in lotions and what not as it'll drastically decrease the shelf life of whatever you use it in, even with a preservative, because it's super delicious bacteria food. You can puree the pulp with some water, strain it, and use it as part of the water part of and of my lotion recipes, just be sure to include a preservative and make it in small batches so you'll use it up fast :)
Hi and thanks. Why does it have to be emulsifying wax? Thanks!
Because this is an emulsion, and emulsions need emulsifiers. I made a video to show what happens if one uses beeswax instead :) ruclips.net/video/La5697ngb8M/видео.html
Hi, can we add any fruit juice like papaya, mango in our DIY lotions or cream?
That will very likely be impossible to preserve. You could *try* it at something like 1%, but I doubt you'd notice its inclusion at that rate.
I'm really intrigued by this recipe. I was wondering if I were to add some zinc oxide, how much of it would be appropriate? I have some and found that my flaky sensitive skin LOVES it, and thought to add it in to make the lotion more occlusive. 😋
Try 2-5% to start :)
Humblebee & Me Thank you ❤
What do you use to clean or disinfect your equipment before you start? Do you rinse everything with diluted bleach water or vinegar?
Hey Liz! Because I'm not selling anything, "clean" as it cleaned with detergent + hot water, and then air dried, is good enough for me, especially since we're doing heat-and-hold and including a preservative. If you were planning on selling anything I would highly recommend a 5% bleach rinse :)
I notice that your last step was to add a preservative. I was thinking that TeaTree Oil would suffice as the preservative. Though you only add a few drops, that stuff has very powerful antifungal, antiseptic qualities. Thoughts?
Sadly, essential oils are not effective preservatives-the amount required to function as a preservative would be damaging to the skin.
South African chamomile? I live here and have not seen it yet. I have to buy very expensive roman chamomile. Great video thanks!
It's also called Cape Chamomile, and has been pretty hard to find in Canada as of late. It's a pity as it's one of my faves!
Thanks, I went on a google search to find it and WOW!!!!! It's 6 times more expensive than the roman chamomile I can just buy at the pharmacy. Can't understand why local is soooo expensive! Really crazy. And it's made in my region.
Thank you for the video! But why can't we use beeswax as an emulsifier. I have seen several tutorials where people have. Why is that? Will those lotions separate sooner? Thank you!
Hey! Well, first and foremost, one cannot use beeswax as an emulsifier because it isn't an emulsifier-not by itself, at least. When combined with borax in very specific recipes + techniques it will work, but those lotions tend to be more like waxy cold creams than the types of lotions we are used to as they require a higher oil/butter percentage than lotions made with emulsifying wax. I made a video to show you what would happen if you use beeswax instead of ewax in a recipe designed to use ewax here: ruclips.net/video/La5697ngb8M/видео.html. If you want to make lotion with beeswax instead of ewax, this recipe will work: www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-lotion/. If you compare the process and the ratios between the two, you'll see how they are different :)
wht is the ingrident that industries use creams to be used long time
Are you asking about preservatives? If so, I've got a whole section on them in my FAQ :) www.humblebeeandme.com/faq/
HI, in your video about what you cannot put in your skin care products you said that you could not use food. Does the oat milk not count as food?
Good question! Honestly, this I would do this differently now. This is one of those things I tried before I knew better and while I've had good success with it, I've also heard from people who haven't been able to get their batch to last longer than a week (the one I made in this video is in my coffee table, and it's still totally fine over two years later). What I'd do today is replace the DIY'ed oat milk with distilled water and 1% colloidal oatmeal-colloidal oatmeal is a cosmetic ingredient approved for use at that rate in lotions :)
Hi Marie, could I substitute a little of the water for coconut milk? Thank you. Stay Safe
I don't recommend it-I've found coconut milk to be really hard to preserve. Happy making!
Preservatives for this lotion please let me know
Hi Marie I wanted to know is cetyl alcohol considered an emulsifying wax as well?
Not even a little bit; it's primarily used as a thickener.
hi, great videos. can I know what is silk that you use here?
The silk I use is silk peptides-it is water soluble in that form and helps heal and hydrate the skin :)
how long is this good for? the shelf life and how do you tell the shelf life on all your diy products?
I have a whole FAQ on this :) www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/long-will-______-last-shelf-life/
Hi Marie, I can only get BTMS 25 from suppliers here in the UK. Would this work?
Hey! You'll find the answers you're looking for in the Humblebee & Me Encyclopedia at www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia. Simply look up the ingredients in question (www.humblebeeandme.com/project/btms-25/ & www.humblebeeandme.com/project/btms-50/) to learn about substitutions, what they do, usage rates, and more. Happy making!
Would you happen to know if it is safe to make colloidal oatmeal at home by grinding oats?
It's not so much a safety thing as a "will the end product be fully water soluble" thing-it would be hard to achieve that level of refinement at home. Here's an interesting blog post on the topic: www.lisaliseblog.com/2017/03/what-makes-colloidal-oatmeal-colloidal.html

I'm afraid I do not know where to shop in India; have you tried googling the ingredients? You can research them all on the blog "Point of Interest" :)
