- This video outlines an example of how to remove the plastic bezel from an LCD monitor. It also talks about some considerations when doing this, notably VESA mounting and dealing with buttons embedded in the bezel. Bezel stripping is of particular interest to Eyefinity and Surround gamers.
I have been meaning to attempt this on my own surround setup for some time now, thanks for inspiring me to bust out the screwdrivers and de-bezel my monitors. It took all of 5 minutes to remove my two Dell side monitor bezels after seeing your example.
Your the man! Thx for making this 👌 I have a U3011t and my display port got damaged in a freak accident or someone tripped on the cable. Thx to you I know now how to open this big SOB and fix it because it is way old and out of warranty.
You wouldn't remove the bezel to expose more pixels, you would do it for things like eyefinity, where you line up multiple monitors next to each other and they work together as one giant monitor basically. Usually the bezels are quite large but doing this will make eyefinity on typically 3 monitors more awesome :)
hmm I never felt the bezels were annoying/disrupting/distorting etc.
But of course totally seamless surround monitors would be best.
I would only do this when mounting them on the wall so you can't really see the backside.

@XBATHORYX13 No idea. You can ask on the WSGF. This basically requires VESA mounting.
Putty knife is a great idea! Worth the price of admission alone. I've tried plastic knife, plast pry pieces, small picks, all broke or looked to cause damage. I've never seen another use a putty knife, I like it.
The tool is a "putty knife" used for dry wall work.
Guitar picks also work.

This is weird, as the Dells of the past were nice and flat all around. With a modern display this is much more needed, as somehow 95% of current screens have a protruding big bezel at the bottom.

That's embeded into the screen, youre at rock bottom at this point.
Lol I just put tape on the aluminum foil and it works
you can get black aluminum sticky tape thats easy to work with if you want to cover the silver bezel
I wish it was possible to completely strip the bezels so you can have the panels directly next to each other.
you can take that off. I took mine off when I was removing my anti glare coating. Wasn't planning on debezeling or anything at the time but it looked better so I just left all the casing out.

It looks good. I think i will try it with my 3 U2410. But they need a common house after it with a common holder.

Can I do it w/ the BenQ XL2420T, or is it too much of a risk?
Is it possible to get a monitor in which nothing is built into the sides (no buttons). Then you could just shave down the plastic only on the sides of the center monitor then on the appropriate sides of the two other monitors. That way you don't loose the aesthetics on top, bottom and the extreme left and right sides. Plus, no having to deal with the loose and unsightly stuff hanging around.
I haven't seen a monitor that would fit this. Some do have controls on the bottom, but you don't know what circuit boards or wires might be under the side plastics until you take them off.
what the hell, there still a bezel thing on monitor. What do you have to do to completley remove any bezel, is it not possible?

I think I would attempt to spray-paint the bezel black if it was me, although I may try silver first but I would think it is distracting.
I am quite tempted to do this, it does look very simple. I have the U2311h so I would imagine it is very similar (assuming it was a different monitor to begin with), but like you say the only shame is the circuit board.

i have three samsung synmaster BX2431 24inch LED monitors and i was wondering if i can do this to them, also they dont have VESA mounts on them and i want to run them in portrait mode

Hi, I'm looking into doing this for for a Surround 3D Vision setup, and I'm wondering if it would help making the monitors more seamless, if I used thin strips of electrical (black) tape over the silver bezel. Would that possibly help prevent the colors/glare on the edges pouring out like you discussed at 6:30? Just curious.
I prefer to have the color spill onto the silver frame. Makes it more seamless, IMHO.

How do you remove the entire frame though? All you did was remove the black plastic, it still has a huge bezel....

Have u ever get to do 2x3 display ? especially with eyefinity catalyst , maybe tweaking some files etc.. it supports 3x2 but not 2x3

I have the apple cinema displays (they are good but when i wanted them i was apple fanboy extreme) But now I need multibles because I want to game on them.... thats impossible if u want to do it on 3 screens with the game on all screens, because the bezels are so big. And its probably impossible to get rid of them because of the fact that apple thinks you are dumb.
I cant wait to paint my monitor now :D

I happy that this is a thing because i was raging on fortnite and basically hitting/smashing my desk and my monitor was like coming apart. I was scared but its no big deal i suppose.

For the vesa mount, why not just cut the plastic out from the back plate?
That is a possibility. I believe the thinking on this was to be able to reassemble the monitor back to factory if you end up not wanting to stay bezel-less (resale of monitor our something else).

I just took mine apart and there's only silver tape holding together the LCD from the power supply and I don't think I can mount them :(

This is incorrect. Nothing is Hidden by the Bezel.... It is just a beauty ring. you are saving the width from the outside. You are not unhiding hidden bad pixels.
how do I get to the backlight once removing the bezel? trying to fix a backlight bleed.
I'm not sure, and that would be different for every model (as is bezel stripping).
Did you actually try turning it on? I think those bezels are on for a reason because when you use the display with a bezel, the image only renders to the edge, it doesn't seem like the bezel is actually covering display area. I would bet that all you exposed are dead pixels that wouldn't actually turn on.
is it possible to remove the bezels and make them matte black somehow... pm me if this is possible...?

The BenQ BL3201PT won't pry apart at all. Just caused damage. How the hell are you supposed to get if off?
Not sure how to do the BenQ 32001PT. This was an old Dell monitor.
Too late. I ruined it and cracked the glass. Too much force was needed.

Why Take Off The Bezel When You Replace With Tape Anyway
Because back this many years ago the metal bezel was less than half as thick as the plastic bezel that was taken off. It reduces the visual impact of playing games on multiple monitors.
I can see the appeal of leaving the lighter colored metal where light from the panel would reflect.

i made up my mind, i am definitely not gonna do this, the monitor is gonna be way more fragile and it just doesnt look much better than with the bezel.

Looks like a Dell E2010HT because the Dell E2010HC doesn't have USB ports on the side.
I think it was a U2211H.
WSGF I thought that too but when I could not get the bezel off, I checked to see if you removed the 4 screws in the back and voila. No screws and the model showing.
Thanks for the video. I have E2011hc and some have broken power buttons while some have broken screens so I have been swapping and making them usable again.

Techno Turkey A different monitor will have a different methodology. It will work on LED backlight as well, but again, how you get the bezel off will be different, and how they handle having the bezel removed will be different.

No. You may be able to remove the aluminum casing, but that would be risky. And there would still be some bezel with the glass.
i think you can propably cut the glass and have only the actual pixels but its risky
