    Thanks! The ifix guide didn't specify that the front part of the case would come out first, and I got stuck as I didn't want to ruin the monitor. Seeing it done was very helpful.

    My dell U2711 developed horizontal flickering lines on one half of the screen, but your trick of reseating the cables seem's to have fixed it - thanks a lot for the guide! Disassembly was surprisingly smooth and easy.

    A warning -- I made my monitor inoperable by trying to follow this video's instructions. A critical part missing in this video is a closeup of how the snaps work, so people can understand how the retaining clips function, which isn't obvious until you have a few of them released and so can see what you are supposed to be doing. More importantly, I destroyed the little card that goes to the power button, supplying it the power. It is attached by wire to the front bezel at the bottom right, and it cracked in half as I tried to separate the now-otherwise-freed bezel from the screen. Ooops. Trash. I am not thumbs-downing this video, as at least he put it out there to educate, and I am always one for trying to do things myself, and appreciate that. Plus, what's one down-vote going to do? But this was pretty devastating nonetheless, and I would like others to dodge this bullet.

      @SerpentInside Well, yes, I brought it to a repair shop, and that's exactly what he did. He couldn't order a new power button card part, which would have been great. In the end I still had to buy a new monitor, for a different reason (the monitor wouldn't work with DP cable, and the computer connections had to be jury-rigged at best). Thanks for the thoughts though!

    Fantastic short but enough to explain this fairly simple fix, I too have 2 U2711 monitors and it saved me a lot to be able to fix one that had the same issue but on the right hand side! Thanks for the effort in posting this!

    And thanks again Aidan, after 5 years static appeared again on the left side today and rapidly got worse. Opened up the monitor, and yes the same cable had partially come out! Pushed it back in and am up and running again, took all of 15 minutes. So no new monitor purchase this time either. Wonder how long it will be until next time I'm looking for your guide again?

    After releasing the retaining clips, place the screen upside down immediatly, don’t try to reove the front or you could damage the cable connecting the power buton! Because my screen is quite old, most of the clips broke, the plastic is not flexible enough to easily open but this trick still beats buying a new one. No more htting my screen until all pixels light up! Thanks!

    Thanks Aidan, I had major static on the left side of the monitor (after many years of occasional very minor static which started after moving house). Bought a U2715H monitor to replace it. Luckily I found your video before tossing it out, and sure enough one of the cables was loose. No sign of corrosion at all. Now the display is rock solid stable. And I prefer the colour on the U2711 so it is great to have it back!

    Use an old credit or plastic card and lift and punch into a corner. Then run the card around the bezel and it will unzip quickly and easily. The one corner of the card will suffer but be reusable. Fixing a U2713HM, this video gave me the motivation i needed!

    So this video helped, but unintentionally!
    We had a power outage this week and when I went to turn my rig back on for the first time I had the same as you, but green. Perfectly spaced vertical lines along precisely half of the screen. You mentioned some people suggested twisting the monitor, which I did and it worked LOL. So I guess for now no disassembly for me!

    Man, I owe you a beer! Thanks for this! I would surely have broken the front frame and clips disassembling it without this video. The power board of my U3011 failed after 6785 hours. Replaced it without any hassle.

    You really should disassemble the monitor further, in order to clean all 4 sides of the two signal cables visible through the whole at the end of your review. Just unscrew the silvery plate and carefulle remove the ribbon cables, than unsvrew the connection unit. Afterwards you can remove the complete connection unit and you are able to clean the other sides of these cables. this step was vital for me and the monitor worked fine again...

      Yes, haven't tried; stopped short with re-seating the first set of connectors and hoped for the best; it didn't work. So I agree, the other end should be done as well. (Next time when I feel like it) :)

  • @tony359
    @tony359 5 лет назад +2

    Since you went up to opening the monitor, I would have 1. sorted a proper screwdriver (it's not really a nice thing to post a youtube video claiming that you can use a flat screwdriver to loosen torx ones! Yes, it can work but that's not the point) and 2. remove the metal shield and properly clean/reseat all the connectors and also inspect for blown capacitors etc!

    Nice video, thanks. I acquired a similar Dell monitor for free from the recycling pile at work and fixed it by simply pressing on the middle of the back. Didn't even need to open the case.

    Aidan,
    Have you found a permanent solution? Have to do it every several weeks to fix the lines on half the screen.
    Great quality monitor and would replace it but it takes me 10mins to fix it so I’m just dealing with it

  • @maxg4958
    @maxg4958 4 года назад

    I had a crack at my U2711 today, and figured that the back case has to come off, the grey frame and front bevel stay together. The front bevel can stay on, to avoid ripping off the on/off switch cable and the touch panel cable. Take your time to open the case (it could take 30 plus minutes depending on your skill). I started at the bottom to figure out how the pieces go together. Every 10 cm is a plastic tongue latching onto the front frame. I used the long side of a credit card and gave it a short sharp tack with a hammer which unlocked the connection easily ... continue around the frame; do the side with the touch panel last.
    However... pulling the connectors, contact cleaner and putting them back on did not get rid of the problem (in my case). :(

    I suspect my Dell P2715Q has an issue with loose cable needing to be re-seated inside, but upon disassembly it was nothing like like this, no sliding metal plate to get to the connections.

    Understand you might have moved on from these by now, but wondering what your preferred colour mode/calibration is?
    I've wanted to get my hands on a spyder or similar but from reading basic articles it seems like people are very confused about the best way of setting these up, and I've never even achieved a neutral out of the box setting with this. Everything has been either overly saturated in the reds or funky in several other ways!

      Hi Ben, I have two monitors U2711 that i use for image retouching. I am very pleased with the color accuracy after calibration. I have each of them calibrated with a spider3 elite, after selecting adobe rgb in each monitor menu, then I went for 6500k color temp and 120 cd luminance (I think these are the standard settings for the work that I do). Then just let the spider do its thing and adjust brightness and contrast if/when required during calibration to get the targeted 120cd. If you didn't get your monitor calibrated by now I can send you one of my profiles, maybe it can help.

      @@mihaistoica4199 Could you provide me with your profile setup? I dont have the spider tool, but would like to manually set mine correctly. I'm starting to see some light red tint on mine and no matter what I do, I can't seem to get rid of it.
