    Charles, have you seen Neto's performance yesterday? Just what Arsenal lacks and needs. He is injury prone but currently, i can't think of a better winger we can sign who is PL proven and fits into this Arsenal category. Created an assist on his own out of nothing. That's what Arsenal surely wants.
    I don't mean Arsenal should go all out and try to sign Neto, but it would be a shame if we don't initiate any talks or negotiations either.

    Hi Charles,
    My thoughts on Rice's position and the 6/8 dilemma.
    Whether or not Rice is a 6 or an 8 will depend on the game (we have signed many versatile players to be unpredictable). I will also say that if it were a binary choice, I think that Rice is an 8.
    In big games (e.g. Man City away), I would put Rice in the 8. I love how he steps up onto the opponent's 6 (e.g. stepping onto Rodri), and I feel much more comfortable defending in our 4-4-2 block if we have Rice and another natural #6 than if Rice were the #6 and we have a more attacking #8. Rice also presents a good ball-carrying presence, and Rice does offer more attacking threat than we give him credit for (although Rice and Martinelli don't exactly work too well, this can be fixed with Timber at LB and a channel-running #9 who provides an overlap to Martinelli (Havertz?)). We will want to jump on the opponents early and stifle their build up, and I love Rice as part of the high press in this regard, as he can win the ball back high and early. Obviously, Rice can still do this as a #6, but as a #8 he can do this more frequently.
    However, in games where we're facing a mid or low block (e.g. Ipswich Town at home), Rice might be better off as a 6. This allows us to simply play more attacking minded midfielders ahead of him. I have issues with his conservativeness in possession, but if we have two attacking-minded #8s (let's say Odegaard and Youssouf Fofana), they can drop out of the block and help Rice progress play.
    In terms of transfers, we should sign both a 6 and an 8. From what I'm hearing, Amadou Onana will cost £50 million and Youssouf Fofana will cost around £17 million. £67 million spent, and we will have utmost flexibility in the midfield department.
    To get off the fence, I think Rice is more of an 8. Rice is much more of a free-roamer than Rodri by nature, and if we play with a lone #6, Rice might be more static, which will limit some of his capabilities (covering ground, ball carrying, etc.) Rice is also very conservative on the ball as a 6, and I worry about his progressive passing, despite how much he's improved recently. Prime example is the Fulham game. If Rice is to play as a #6, he needs progressive players around him to drop in next to him and help. I am not confident in Rice's ability to recieve the ball off the defence and progress play. However, Rice can still do the things that he's good at as a #8 (running around, winning the ball, driving forwards, transition control, etc.), while letting someone else, a more progressive #6, do the stuff that he's not good at. A #6 must have the ability to recieve from the first line and progress, unless we have an altered system, and I would rather someone who specializes in that be the #6. Put it this way: in many of the games that we lost this season (Aston Villa, West Ham, Fulham, Porto away), Rice played as a #6. I'm open to both possibilities, but what does this tell you?

    Rice 6 or 8 debate is nonsense. The main criticism of Rice (even if it's not entirely fair) has been his creative passing. That is what we've been missing from our left hand side and why Martinelli has been struggling a bit. Get Rice in as an impenetrable 6 that handles phase 1 and 2 of buildup, and get a De Jong style profile to handle phase 2 and 3 and unlock our left hand side. We seriously missed Xhaka's passing this season because we didn't directly replace his profile. That is our number one priority this summer.

    Indeed Vieira's Arsenal's 1st team career. My phone went on Mustafi mode for a part of that sentence.
    It is good though to see Tomiyasu, White, Timber, Partey, Odegaard, Jesus & even Vieira getting a fully fit pre season to be ready for the start of the new season when other top teams may not have this bonus.

    I’m not sure James is making much sense on his thoughts on the Partey transfer. Who said we’re only going to get 5 mil for him? Especially if he’s going to Saudi. He’s on high wages and to justify that with 3,4 or 5 games he might come good in, doesn’t make much sense to me. I see an argument to keep Partey but that ain’t it. And Declan is not a 6, he doesn’t have the progressive passing needed to be a 6 in this system. His pass maps prove my point. The only time he works as a 6 is if you pair him with a player that does and they switch off in different phases of play.

    Q why aren't arsenal looking at Openda I think he would be perfect for us 24 goals 13 assists in all comps and can play anywhere along the front three. Cf, Lw, Rw. Wouldn't he cover all bases and then free up necessary funds for lb and cm. Yousef fofana available for reported less than 35 million and kimmich reportedly available for less than 30 million plus kimmich could offer cover at rb also. With regards to left back a cheaper option to replace zinny I really like Estupinan of Brighton. What do you think Charles and James are these signings realistic and within our budget.?

    Said many times. Rice is NOT a 6. First touch and elite progressive passing are essential in that role and he just does not have them at the required level.
    Look at when he played 6 last season, they were our worst performances. Villa at home and away, Fulham away, West Ham at home.
    In each he had neither Jorgi or Partey to help him. And we dropped points played poorly
    Rice box to box and a new elite 6 should be the midfield

  • @Ash_Mead
    @Ash_Mead 7 дней назад +2

    My take on the Rice debate comes down to one point - how many 6s in the world are better than Declan Rice? I think the only player you can make a convincing case for is Rodri.
    Now how many 8s are better than Declan Rice? Well the list is far bigger. And that’s no slight on rice at all - he’s so unbelievably good that he’s caused this whole debate - but the position where there is most room for improvement is the 8.
    We are the Arsenal - we are built on some of the most technically gifted, graceful 8s that world football has ever seen! Fab, Santi, Nasri, Ramsey, Flamini, even the great Dani Ceballos!
    Most positions in our squad need the floor raising signings, but the 8 is the one that needs a ceiling raiser signing.

    • @innercircle341
      @innercircle341 7 дней назад

      I totally disagree. Rice is NOT a 6. Not in the sense that Partey is a 6. He does not have the first touch and progressive passing.
      If you look at the games he played the 6 role role last season (without Partey or Jorginho) they were Fulham away, West Ham home, Villa away and Villa at home.
      We need a fella to run the midfield, receive, turn and progress the ball. That's not Rice and he proved it again playing for England the other night. He has the interception and ball winning skills but lacks many characteristics of a top class 6

    • @Ash_Mead
      @Ash_Mead 7 дней назад

      @@innercircle341 not a single one of the aforementioned games were lost due to Rice playing the 6.
      The reason we signed him for 100+ million is not because we saw 8 potential, but because of the world class ability he showed at West Ham in the 6. It was our approach to the LCM position that cost us in those games. And at Villa. Rice in the 6 has absolutely everything you need. Might not have the progressive passing of Partey (yet), but that’s not a quality a 6 needs to possess to an 8 level standard.

    Nah you've totally got the role of the 6 wrong. Useless comments. And Rice was dreadful in the 2nd half versus Serbia. Dropped too deep because he was incapable, not press resistant enough, to receive the ball in midfield and get England moving.
    As an overall team dynamic having him using his game reading, interception and athletic prowess up and down the pitch, in a similar role to Steven Gerrard, will be far more beneficial than having him sweep in front of Saliba and Gabriel (who don't need that much help)
    Especially when you could get an elite 6 who can receive, turn, move and distribute the ball (like Partey does at his best) which will greatly impact progressing the ball forwards i.e Get the ball to Odegaard in areas where he can hurt the opposition
    Rice cant do that, he mostly offloads sideways, just recycling the ball.
    Rice can bomb up the field and join in with the wingers and Havertz to create a massive threat.

    Hi Charles,
    Love from India, I am not sure why everyone is concerned about Tough Start rather facing tough opponents early gives us the chance to take maximum from them. I would rather have easier run in the second half of the season since during that time we may find ourselves in the deeper run of other tournaments like UCL/ FA cup. Easier fixture will enable us to rotate our squad players.
    Plus i believe its the best chance for us to take points at City/Spurs away at start of the season, but for this to happen we need fixed plan and style of play which we had couple of seasons back unlike the last season where we started with some new system of Partey as RB and Gabi out of starting 11
    Cheers,
    Abhimit

Also most people still think that teams like England, Portugal and France have the far superior squad to Germany ... I guess the grass is always greener away from home 😉

    Keeping Partey is an absolute no-brainer for me...
    Onana has all the raw attitudes, but I have doubts about his football intelligence (which makes it hard to be versatile). Zubimendi is probably the opposite... but takes longer to adapt to England.
    Bruno is expensive, Douglas Luiz isn't tall enough...

    Rice at 6 or 8 talk... what made prime-Barca so good was their ability to win the ball back in dangerous positions.
    Its not about stopping attacks... it is about turning the ball over high and having a player who is a good enough footballer to do that. If you don't win the ball back high, he has the athleticism to get back and form a double pivot.
    Playing ball playing CBs at fullback (White, Timber, Tomi, Kiwior) strengthens your defense. The 6 becomes more about breaking the lines and less about defending.
    Don't box Rice in and don't underestimate high turnovers.

      Do you know what it takes to beat pep to a title? Antonio Conte, klopp and jose mourinho are the only 3 to have done it (conte was when pep just moved to a man city so it wasn't his team yet) and the same managers that have won a title over him have lost more than they have won.
      My point is if we were to sack him who on gods green earth would come in and be better placed with this current team to beat him. Like it's all well and good saying he isn't good enough to beat pep so replace him but I think you will find it damn near impossible to replace him.

      @@michaelhearn3831 ok, thanks for reading my comment without understanding it I guess.
      Who is the man to come in that would be in a better position to win the title. I'd like for you to answer the question but I know you gonna say mourinho or some shit.

    Arsenal will flop next season Arteta OUT. Clueless transfer policy. I wish i could turn back time and NEVER support mickey mouse club. If we were serious we would have been double league winner. We missed the opportunity ALL downhill from here.

    This is not gonna be cheap unless the club is city 😂 Haaland signed for City from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 for a relatively low transfer fee of £51.2million.. other clubs want players that can’t even meet Haaland’s benchmark and their asking price are ridiculously jack up!! no wonder City is charge 115.. something is not right City should be punished more, greedy agents should be investigated for corruption and punished as well ..
