The ranking should be taken with a grain of salt man. Belgium is ranked 3d because of consistent results since the 2018 WC. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are indeed the 3d best team in the world. Also, it takes a while to drop in the rankings. You have to go on a streak of losses, which Belgium just haven't done so far.
Craig spot on again. Bunch of multi milkionaires acting like crybabies because they got criticized for FAILING to turn up at thier job. Craig's miles off it, Ukraine actually played really well that day. Belgium was uninspired but still had loads of chances in the game
People seem to forget easily, but De Bruyne is not a leader you want. He doesnt have the winning mentality. We all saw that when he said his team has no chance. Same with Kane, neother of them are the clutch leader you need in a do or die game. Neither belgium or england have a Sergio Ramos, a Thiago Silva, a Maldini, a Cannavaro, a Lahm, they dont have leader to bring them over the line. Closest Belgium ever had was Kompany, and the one time he didnt get injured they got the bronze medal

I wish the host was a bit more precise because she should have said, "that it is the first time SINCE 2016 (when the Round of 16 was introduced) that a team with 4 points failed to qualify out of the Group Stage," because Italy failed to qualify with 5 points in 2004 when they were given the "2-2 and we're through" (biscotto) treatment by Denmark and Sweden. Also, many teams prior to the 2016 tournament, such as Russia in 2012, Spain in 2004, and several others, failed to qualify with 4 points when the knockout stage began with at the Quarter-Final stage.
This should be the first time that a group with 4 teams can all progress to the knockout stage, including the team finishing last place (Ukraine) with a better record than a third place team (Slovenia) which should have been eliminated.
Not impressed by Belgium and I have been impressed by Austria during group play.
Austria have been the best overall, finished top against Netherlands, France and Poland whilst looking like a real threat? they definitely take top spot for most impressive team.

Last time they were eliminated at the round of 16 by Switzerland and pundits predicted that they were going to beat Switzerland. Even in the World Cup they were eliminated by Senegal when we were told they were going to beat Senegal. So everything is possible but Jules never criticize French team or French players.

"If" this Belgian team plays up to their potential, and the french keep lollygagging about like they have been this entire tournament, they can easily beat france. However, Belgium hasn't been playing anywhere near their potential, and i'd be amazed if that would suddenly change.

It promotes mediocrity and benefits the teams of the groups that play later because they know which results they need. So they then don't take any risks. Well, thank god the group stage is finally over.

We here in Belgium are also very disappointed with the performance shown so far.
The funny part is, the Dutch fans still support their team, but their players are criticizing themselves, while the situation with Belgium is the opposite. And the irony? Netherlands ended 3rd in their group, and can only get better, and will face the weaker teams of this Euro, and the Belgium team tried to play it safe, and now face the strongest teams.

I don't always agree with Craig, but here his analysis is spot on. England and Belgium are both teams with a lot of individual quality that have shown a lack of self belief, intensity, pressing and creativity. Yes, they both qualified for the next round, but they haven't performed to the standard that is expected from them. If the coach and key players then fail to accept the justified criticism, and even come to an interview claiming they played really well, they deserve to be booed. Be a man, admit the performance wasn't good enough, and try to do better next time. However, this doesn't mean they don't stand a chance in the knockout stage, they still possess the quality. But the first step to improve is to accept that you need to improve.
