Football is a game of nuances. In bad faith, they will always find a reason to criticize, no matter what. At the end of the day germany is a revitalized powerhouse of the game. And obviously people refuse to acknowledge that, because they fear another great opposition and obstacle. Ironically in a way, it's a sign of respect.
@@davidsmithy123 if we open the discussion on the offside. Than I want the Schloterbeck goal back. There was no foul, just a regular block. Goal should have been counted.
If havertz was more clinical in front of goal it would've been a very comfortable win for Germany, overall they deserved to win despite some controversial decisions but they seriously need to think about starting fulkrug as their striker
Beside clinical infront of goal, haverts playing well. Perfect penalty, and great positioning. To open the play. Fulkrug cannot do that. Make fulkrug supersub, its already the best decision.
2-0 is pretty comfortable, especially looking at Denmark basically looking non threatening all game except for a spell of 10 minutes pre weather break and when they got a couple corners in a row from which they scored their offside goal.
"We saw Denmark go head - the goal was then disallowed." Klinsmann then basically repeats the phrase. What about the disallowed german goal in the 4th minute?
French here. What are we discussing? Denmark lost 1 point due to var, and had an offside, germany lost 2. And to top it all off, schmeichel was insane this game, germany had like 3 shots directly on target in firsg 20mins, and each one being VERY good. Im sorry but if denmark wouldn't have played to penalties, they stood no chance this game. The best player from them was Schmeichel, propably the best keeper i have seen so far in the euros. Im sorry but there were VIDEOS SHOWING, that it eas offside and that andersen hit the ball, the chip inside the ball even marked it. It was just fair. Var took back 2 of germanies goals, so please, don't cry cause if one goal that the danes lost
We're not angry because it was offside, because it was correctly called. But to call a penalty because the ball hits Andersen's thumb from half a meter away is crazy. The ball doesn't change direction or anything. And Denmark was playing even with Germany before they called that penalty and even better several times in the match. But the referee turned the game around and it killed Denmark's energi. And both of germanys goals were clearly not legal
you clearly did not listen to what they actually said about the handball, what they said was the when a human being runs your arms go out ahead of you, this is a natural position. That is why they said that they agree with the handball being given because according to the rules it is correct but that the rules are wrong.
The only “controversy” (re: whining) comes from people who simply wanted Germany to lose. The big decisions (each team had goals chalked off, and the penalty) were tough but fair.

Havertz gets his head often first to the ball and then cannot place it properly. Not much better with his feet. I can understand VAR debates about fouls because that line is fluid, but it has quite literally eliminated all room for debate about the questions wether a hand had contact or wether someone was offside because it's unchangeable facts...
But the debate is, yes the line shows offside but the angle of the pass is not visible for people to see when the ball is kicked... So in this case there can be a level of manipulation. I am not saying this was but you see where people can come up with issues with the line if the whole picture is not show and they are showing just one angle...
no it isn't @holyflick. The offside is 1 cm off - which is not scientific. It is instead about frames and which milisecond you stop a frame at - when calling the offside. VAR is therefore not accurate down to 1 cm. So the goal should have stood.
VAR always makes the correct call when it favors your team. If it does not favor your team, then VAR sucks. With all that said, Denmark did not do enough to win the game, deserved for Germany. Sané sucks.
If you have the technology to measure millimeters, you have to make decisions based on that. You can not make decisions by feel anymore, because that won't be fair. Same with the handball. The only fair way is the strict enforcement of the rules. When you start o make exception based on intention etc. you get less fair because the next scene you will have a different ruling.
Romelu lukaku had 3 goals disallowed. Germany hag 1 vs scotland and 1 here. Many goals were disallowed for 1 micromillimeter offside. Nobody complained. Germany deserved to win this match.
Idk if you watched, but germany had 2 disallowed goals just this match, and on top way more and better shots on target. The people who really complain should rethink watching this sport, the rules are older then all the players today, and var just makes sure the rules will not be broken by people.

As a German I’ll admit Oliver is one of europes worst refs. Many bad decisions this game. The VAR ones were clear… The ref was not good, but Germany was just better…
There is zero debate! I wouldn't give the penalty, cause I don't like the rule, but it is in the book! Yep Sane sadly does not work in the NT, Havertz also was crazy inconsequential infront of goal today. I think I counted 4 clear 100% chances for him with lots of time and acres of space and he missed all of that. You might say he was the best defender of Denmark today, by clearing away so many big chances for Germany...
Thank god you are not a referee then. I don't like the current handball rule either, but as a ref you are supposed to enforce the rules, whether you like them or not.
Denmark was atrocious the whole tournament: has not won a single game and scored only 2 goals in 4 games. Now suddenly they thought they deserved to go forward instead of Germany? Regardless of the refereeing, Germany was better than Denmark in all departments.
football don't work like that. var rruined this game. Past time they looked into how offside and handballs like that are referee'ed. cause this is atrocious.
You all seem to forget that the VAR disallowed germanys first goal after 4 minutes. How tf do you think the game will go if germanys ahead after 4 minutes Jesus get over it
Whahhaha germany only started playing better after they could counter after the first goal. They were on the backfoot after the opening 20. The goal in the 4th minute: smeichel would have easily got it if gundo doesnt block the goalkeeper from offside position. For me germant have definitely lost their favourite status xD

I don't think VAR was designed to focus on handballs. It's a negative side effect to it. A random ball graces a players hand becomes the deciding factor in a game. Is there anything more unsatisfying then that? Does it even feel like a real win?
For me, all decisions made sense and were made up to UEFA standards. In the end, Germany had two goals disallowed, and Denmark got the offside and the penalty against them, all rightfully though. So it was balanced and the goal of Musiala made the difference. Biggest referee question mark would be not giving yellow and free kick for the foul from behind on Sané at the penalty semicircle.
"They need to check if he really did that on purpose" - What a absolute crazy statement. Lets then implement therapy-sessions for red card fouls, because he didnt do it on purpose. Maybe he had a bad childhood or was to fast so he broke the other guys foot by accident.
I think people spend too much time whining whenever a team wins a game and gets a result that they didn’t deserve purely because of the ref. Germany vs Denmark, we all know what happened as in the game today as in the 1st half, the game was stopped for a couple of minutes due to lightning and a thunderstorm in the stadium as the refs felt as if it wasn’t the safest conditions for the players to play in. Anyways at the start of the 2nd half, Denmark had a disallowed goal which was the right decision from the ref because as you can see from the replay, their player was offside and this is something that cannot be argued against and in the box when they were defending, it was an obvious penalty because you can’t be sticking your hand up in the wrong area of the pitch. At the end of the day, it’s easy for people to not give Germany the credit that they deserve for winning 2-0 because there were some decisions that went in their way, this is part of football and just sports in general nobody can change the way a ref officiates a game because decisions have to be made and you shouldn’t spend 24/7 crying about it. Regardless of what people think of the refs, Germany went about their business and for the most part of the game they were the better team and of course there’s some weaknesses that Julian Nagelsmann needs to address because they’ll get punished by the better teams in the latter stages of the tournament, they have been an impressive team and you wouldn’t be shocked if they go on to win the EUROs because they’ve shown that there are periods where they don’t have to be great as they’re able to do enough to get the job done in the end and that’s all that matters in a major tournament.

VAR was created to reduce the amount of mistakes made by refs and it’s doing that. How about the offside the rule has always been there, we just didn’t have the technology that allowed us to see the closer calls. This is not about VAR, it’s about the rule in itself. We have been looking dull and slow.. And I think we have lost our sharpness in front of goal.. 3. I commend our defense to a certain degree in today's match, especially Rüdiger, he put out all for the team today.. But nevertheless, we are still not yet compact at the back.. And we have Spain next, because they are going to beat Georgia, so we have to sharpen up on both defense and attack, we can't afford to continue playing like this, in fact, we can't play like this against Spain, else we are going to get beaten, it's because Denmark didn't have any cutting edge today.. 4. Why are we accumulating disallowed goals?? 😂😂.. 3 in two matches now.. But seriously though, we really need to find the balance, else we aren't beating Spain.. Blame the rules on FIFA they make them VAR supports them. I suspect had England been the team under scrutiny every thing would have been fine. Mark Pugach is a @rick along with the commentator who's last game it was.
The VAR decisions were insane. They also had a meeting for the premier league 2 years ago where they said situations that led to the handball in the match would never lead to a penality. The 1 cm offside - you know how freaking small that offside is - where two players stood beside each other but VAR finds the cm - makes the game ridiculous. This is not how football should be like. It’s not though luck. It’s by design. Lewandowski also had several goals taken away by him having a bigger shoe size. This is not why the offside rule was implemented - to help teams with smaller shoe sizes. It was made preventing defenders from passing to whoever is farthest along. VAR makes football more unfair because it is more exact and precise than a referee ever could be, and in fact Too precise and exact, it’s a bad thing and it sucks.
I think the issue is that VAR was not originally introduced to clear up 50/50 calls, but rather the "howlers" made by the refs. The problem is that the authorities then had the bright idea to extend it to every potential decision in dispute without investing first in the proper video technology to allow this to happen. Also, there is inconsistency with handball between the continent and the UK, so I think the referee's associations have not adequately trained their officials to adjudicate consistently on the laws of the game. There appears to be absence of proper communication between the lawmakers and match officials, particularly in Europe.
Agree on Sané. He was best when he came through at Schalke when he ran across defences without THEM knowing what he was up to, then at City when he became young player of the year. Ever since he got “relegated” (in his mind?) to the Bundesliga he seems only partly interested in football. Has a family now as well as manifold runway related concerns.
Sané actually played really well this game, imho - and I'm usually not a fan of his play at all. He created a lot of good opportunities with very fluid play and helped out a lot on the defensive end.
A handball as we've seen in this game should always be penalized, because A it changed the direction of the ball and maybe the situation might be way more dangerous and B it wasn't exactly a natural posture. He even raised the arm. It wasn't intentional, but he changed the play with his arm. If not in this situation when should we ever punish the involvement of the arm or hand? So I don't agree with these two gentlemen. VAR made every decision crystal clear, but we still love to argue. The off side was off side, the arm changed the trajectory of the ball and the "foul" in the 4th minute was a foul, although not serious. The referee was very strict throughout the whole game so it made sense - unlike the italian referee in the last game against Switzerland who probably wasn't a big fan of Germany or wanted his team to play against them next... Who knows? But I agree with everything you said about Sané. I was nervous when I saw him in the starting lineup.
What are you talking about? The ball barely touched the defenders thumb. So, no the direction didn't change at all. Therefore he didn't affect the game. And he was at the end of his run while he was hit with the ball. Michael Oliver f***ed up. And by the way: don't bother answer my comment because I've turned off incoming messages.

It’s wild how this is a debate. This reminds me of the Japan game against Spain in the latest World Cup when Japan scored their second goal and the ball was millimeters from being out. This was clear offside goal from Denmark. Penalty was decided because danish defenders hand changed trajectory of the cross from Raum.
Why is steve blaming the ref for the penalty? It was the VAR that contacted him and made him look at it. And it’s not the refs fault, it’s the rules that may need an update, but currently as it stands, it’s a pen by the rules, not the refs nor the var‘s fault
Serbia should have got a penalty for the foul on Mitrovic in the game against England....so what??? What I dislike is if the penalty shooter freezes during the penalty!!

@@UnknownUser_10 Offside is a factual decision and, thanks to the new technology, can be decided quite reliably. Nevertheless, there are discussions as to whether two centimetres are enough to decide on offside. You can discuss whether such a marginal touch of the ball is enough when deciding on handball. VAR is making the sport unwatchable. Are picks illegal? Kimmich has every right to essentially set a pick. I don’t know how that’s a foul. On the Denmark goal the player was offside, but wasn’t even in the play at that point. By the time he becomes involved in the play he has reestablished himself in an onside position. On the penalty his arm isn’t in an “unnatural” position at all. Arms swing when you run. Does the VAR official think people run with their arms at their side? To give a penalty for that is a joke. The whole sport is becoming a joke.
I may be wrong about the offside. I need to see it again. I’m not exactly sure where they’re determining him to be in the play. That one was really close. With the naked eye I thought he established himself onside by the time he became involved. I’m also not sure how they call it these days. The rule might have evolved into nonsensical garbage by this point and by the book he was off.
At least know what you are talking about. It was offside. Not for Anderson, but for the player that received the ball. Also it was clearly a penalty if you look at the rules. It’s a handball if ur arms are not next to ur body. Simple as that. There is not even a discussion possible.
Yeah and they forget germany lost 2 goals due to var. And the penalty was not a var decision, the decision was set when he hit the ball since inside there is a chip. Var is there so they decide what card to give, thr intention doesn't matter for the penalty, it matters for the refs decision to what card to give, and it rescued denmark, since it showed it was unintentional, without the var the ref could have given yellow or even red
As much as people praise Rudiger I find him to be really off putting and pathetic. Primarily because he is always clattering into opponents and injuring them. But then he himself pretends like he’s injured to avoid getting carded. He does it all the time at Madrid and he did it twice alone in this match. It’s pathetic and referees need to stop rewarding his antics. Not to mention he constantly gets away with bear hugging opposition forwards and never getting called for it.
@jemiee9493 I hear you there. I’m just tired of referees rewarding his behavior. He most notably did it against De Bruyne when he knocked him out of the game. But then he himself went down like he was injured. He’s been doing it for years and I’m tired of watching him constantly get away with it.

For me, all decisions made sense and were made up to UEFA standards. In the end, Germany had two goals disallowed, and Denmark got the offside and the penalty against them, all rightfully though.

1. Füllkrug should be starting over Kai.. He has been wasting too many chances, if it wasn't for the penalty he wouldn't score today.. I don't know why Nagelsmann would have a natural goal scorer sitting on the bench, if he was the one to get all those chances that Kai has been getting, he would already be the leading goal scorer..
2. Why can't we play the way we played against Scotland with such intensity and aggression? As soon as the opposition gets the ball, we would close them down immediately to regain possession..
Yes, we won today, but it wasn't convincing.. Congrats to my team though, but we need to get it right this time around, because we are about to play arguably the best team in the tournament in Spain..
@altafahmad8578 Kai missed many chances, without penalty he woulndn't score any goal. Man of the Match was Rüdiger. Füllkrug for Kai and Germany would be much more dangerous in front and efficient.
Without VAR Germany would have won 4:1
Germany dominated this game it wasn’t even close.
I don`t agree and in any event its irrelevant. ref definitely handed germany the win
@@hotdog9262Germany would have won it regardless. The only contronversy is perhaps the penalty/handball decision.
Other than that, every criticsm is unfounded.
@@DominationRotation oliver the ref gave biased decisions towards germany all game, blatantly wrong decisions. its a big reason why they `dominated` the game

Calling Sane Dembele is actually so disrespectful. Sane doesn’t deserve that slander
Game was incredibly one sided.
The stats speak for themselves.
They also got a disallowed goal that was a lot more sus than actual offsides
Yeah, germany lost 2 goals, and that foul at the start? By all means that didn't looked like fould at all, im from france and if the danish keeper wouldn't have been so good it would be 5:0 easily, and without var 7:1. The penalty was not a var decision, it was set the moment he hit the ball since inside there is a chip to detect touches. The var rescued him frommpotential red if the ref didn't knew exactly if it was intentional
Wrong. VAR was created to make games more fair. And that it does.
You can not "un-invent" something, VAR has been called for time and time again now its here people hate it, personally I would trust tech more then a Refs Eye.
If anything it makes football to fair. Germanys late disallowed goal was also a very close offside decision. There is no bias there
Why stress over what technology clears all doubts about? Stop the agenda!
This is not a VAR discussion. I don't know why it's being framed as such. It's aobut the rules of handball.
right! i m not an fan of VAR overall but tonight is a VAR discussion funny af
Exactly :) One could argue that the new rules for Handball are stupid, but the referee had no chance but to give the penalty by the new rules.
And by the way: don't bother answer my comment because I've turned off incoming messages.
it was 100% handball, players in the penalty box should be keeping their hands closer to their body. everyone KNOWS that. what on earth are these pundits talking about lmao
"players in the penalty box should be keeping their hands closer to their body."
Why? Do you know how running works?
@@nikosvault pay attention next time watching defenders run with their hands controlled close to their body while they are in the box. If you're running and have hands and arms flying about.. you run the risk of a hand ball. Simple as that.
Only time there are debates is when the referees are English.
TYPICAL MICHAEL OLIVER THE MOST RUBBISH REF IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS IN THE EUROS.. THIS VAR IS USELESS
Naah the one from germany against switzerland was italian and he for sure got a new bankaccount in switzerland😂😂😂
Why are close but correct decisions only discussed controversially when Germany benefits? There were other close VAR decisions where there was no discussion.
If England had capitalised on that handball, would we be having the same discussion?
I really wonder how people think that offside decision was wrong. Like how. We can discuss everything, the penalty, ok, but why the offside decision??
@@UnknownUser_10 Offside is a factual decision and, thanks to the new technology, can be decided quite reliably. Nevertheless, there are discussions as to whether two centimetres are enough to decide on offside.
You can discuss whether such a marginal touch of the ball is enough when deciding on handball. However, the rules are the same for everyone and to start such a discussion just because Germany has now benefited from it seems to me to be pure racism.
The rules were applied correctly I don’t know why pundits are talking about it. Funny 😄
The teferee was absolutely terrible. Throwing cards around like he has lost his mind and wanted to feel like a little dictator. Denmark deserved someone with more capable.

I think Germany was the better team of the day, but it was certainly a closer game than a 2-0 would suggest. A 2-1 or 3-1 would have been what i'd expected.

What about the disallowed goal for Germany and the 2 incredibly high percentage chances that Havertz missed ? it is.
Always great to see a british and a french guy talking about a german match.
Musiala>> foden, Palmer, Gordon, saka.
Foden managed to score against Madrid unlike the other 4 here
@gigii9419 ok Musiala can score against Denmark but Foden can't. Musiala has more goals in this tournament than the English team.
It was offside, keeper got defended at the 5th minute goal, penalty harsh but rules hae. Dunno why nothing was done to the German guy floored at the big Havertz miss. Dark yellow in my opinion. Well deserved win Germany. Great effort Denmark.

Blatant picks are illegal. You're using a basketball term for football
At least know what you are talking about. It was offside. Not for Anderson, but for the player that received the ball. Also it was clearly a penalty if you look at the rules. It’s a handball if ur arms are not next to ur body. Simple as that. There is not even a discussion possible.
It really wasn’t closer man… Denmark was good but especially the first half, Schmeichel saved another two or three goals
Rüdiger is the german Pepe in a light version 😂
@jemiee9493
I hear you there. I’m just tired of referees rewarding his behavior. He most notably did it against De Bruyne when he knocked him out of the game. But then he himself went down like he was injured. He’s been doing it for years and I’m tired of watching him constantly get away with it.
rudiger will never get penalized ever since he made himself the victim against son and the tottenham fans for supposedly being “racist”. he is truly pathetic.
I agree with all the comments in this thread and wish more people shone a light on rudigers behaviour. It's disgraceful
It was not created to have less debates. It was created to make the game more fair. And it has been. In the past, we just accepted mistakes more because you could t change anything about it. Now you can with var.
So you're saying that it wasn't offside?? If it was another team, would you still say that?? So you are telling me ESPN that you have never seen any situation like this where var gave it as offside?? I've seen closer ones than this, even if it's half an inch, it is still offside.. You guys are pathetic.. If I was like you, I would be worried about England and not my team 😂😂.. We had two disallowed goals today, and we could debate about the first one, but we just moved on.. When you lose, you should accept it, because even if you don't, that still can't change the outcome.. We should have scored more than two goals today if Kai was able to finish.. Of course, our performance wasn't convincing, in fact, I don't wish to rewatch the match or the highlights, but the truth is, we won fairly.. So you can say that an offside goal is an onside goal, it still doesn't change the outcome.. And I'm not surprised, because this channel is very contradictory and controversial..
