I'm afraid we're stuck with it. I think the worst thing that Southgate has done, so far in his tenure, was appoint Harry Kane as captain. Before, he was made captain he was a goal poacher, like Gary Lineker, or Alan Shearer. He never dropped back, like he does now. he's carrying to many responsibilities on his shoulders. To quote the Bard: Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown. This applies very much to our King Harry.
Our expectations are too high. This is international football. You can't just mix it up playing different systems every game in order to look pretty - it solves nothing. Make a gameplan, determine form/fit players, then tweak for the knockouts. This is the stage where ingame management takes over. Plan A, Plan B. Stick to the plans, and get the fittest players on the pitch. Period.
