Southgate is often credited with changing the culture around the team after Sven, Capello and Hodgson, which is a fair assessment, but he has to be held responsible for the culture that’s manifesting this tournament. Forget his predictable and feeble tactics, his meekness and defensive nature is perpetuating the siege mentality. That’s what happens when you have an inept manager, whose only skill is to wrap their arm around the players and whisper in to their ear how wonderful they are, and how mean the press are. It’s a deflection tactic, which stops them from blaming Southgate for the thoroughly crap performances they are dishing up every single match. Even if by some miracle they manage to win this thing, he needs to go. We need a decent manager, an attacking manager, who can get the best of of this crop of excellent players.
