- 24 HOURS in Cairns - Foodie Guide
Welcome back to this final installment of my eventful and fantastic trip through Queensland. I spent collectively about 24 hours in Cairns in transit to and from Cape York. I had a whole itinerary planned on where to go to find what to eat but unfortunately the weather had other ideas for me. Visiting Cairns during the wet season isn't fun, but I had to somehow make it work.
Follow me through my journey in Cairns as I brave the rain to satisfy my tummy. Chapter markers are available, or just watch the video in it's entirety.
Cheers

Top video. I love Cairns, and I will definitely be trying the Indonesian Restaurant when I am next up there!
Go for it! 😉
Cairns is my favourite town in Australia. Plans to move there to live in 5 years.
Congrats! Cairns is beautiful...
Love your chill attitude!
Nice review. We fly to Cairns in January. Our first time back in 7 years. We love it. Brings back memories from my 90s backpacking days. They were great days. As the song says, Those were our young years
You know we'll live it all again
We could turn the tide
And sail it all away
back to our young years
Those were our young years.
I'd love to return to cairns in better weather. Enjoy your trip! Lemme know how it goes!
Great review 🙂 I've watch a few Cairns reviews this weekend, I think I need to take a trip up. It was a lifetime ago I was last there.
It is a very beautiful seaside city. They've got some beautiful hotels as well!
Great review. Embrace the rain!
I love Cairns
My sister and I saw Ryan and had been looking forward to eating at Bagus. We finally had the chance for take away lunch and ordered the marinated fried chicken. We waited for a good 15 mins before it was ready. We also purchased packaged Shrimp chips. Well, once we opened the container at the hotel, it was a total disappointment. The chicken looked like it was several days old, a measly piece by all means and the rice was dry as well. The best part of the lunch were the Shrimp chips.
We should’ve ordered the chicken satay and nasi goreng. At least it would’ve been freshly barbecued(?).
Do not recommend this restaurant unless you do so. Luckily we didn’t get food poisoning as we were on holiday. Definitely not like our grandmother’s cooking. She wouldn’t have allowed such a meal to be given at her restaurant!
Yikes ... That sounds horrible! I wonder if they were having a bad day? Cafe Bagus really came as a recommendation by a dear friend and I've been back one more time after this video and they were awesome! Sorry your experience was sub par though ...
Thank you for the recommendation! The food was delicious and i had your dish and 100% recommend!
Howdy! Omg what did you have?
The Igar Bakar as per your suggestion! and partner had nasi goreng with satay chicken...and as per normal it is over cast and raining here in Cairns now.
@@bentleybila3357 very nice... If you like iga bakar, head down to Melbourne's Blok M Express. I'm going through an iga bakar phase, and I would so fly back to Melbourne for that one. Its the best I've tasted so far because they use lamb ribs there. Enjoy cairns!
Great video again. Making me homesick. I used to do work trips to Cairns regularly and know all those spots you were at. Not in Aus at the moment and miss it every day. Cheers.
Awwww... Come back soon then!
Love this! Taking my husband to Cairns next year for his birthday. Definitely want to go to that Indonesian restaurant.
You should! Make sure you ordered the iga... Omg I'm thinking about it again even though it's been over a year. Yum!
Iga Bakar Bagus Cafe my favorite as well. Yummy.... Welcome to Cairns
I want to return to cairns and try the ikan bakar!
@@ryansofly You should try that too. Ikan bakar enak juga
Wow you are absolutely fluent in any language very cool!
I wished! Thanks for watching.
Very good. New sub. Enjoyed this video
Ha thanks mate!
A very good friend has been trying to get me to head up to Cairns. After watching this video, I will be heading up there soon! Looks like you got rained out the way I was in SIN. The fisherman's basket looks so good. A poached egg needs YOLK PORN and that totes failed. Listen to you being multi-lingual! Iga bakar, YUM! So, be honest now, how does it compare with my fave Indo restaurant here in MEL? Sambal balado must be spicy and it looks like it packed a punch. Aussie-Chinese fusion food is the go to for most of us. Sadly I don't speak any language except for English, Bad English and a touch of Hokkien. Love your food videos, Ryan.
Ok... I'm on the fence on which iga bakar is better. They're different, very different. I do intend to transit in Melbourne on my trip to SG so let's go back to Blok M! Yes the rain, omg... My shoes spent a lot of time under the hair dryer back at the hotel! Hahahaha...
Hi ! I am currently in Cairns and staying at the same hotel !!!! 😂 Room 301 .The weather has been surprisingly mild and rainy for this time of the year .Thanks for reviewing The Bagus Cafe .It was fantastic .One of best Indonesian Restaurants I have tried outside of Indonesia .Tomorrow I will take an overnight boat trip to The Barrier Reef .I hope the weather warms .Ah well , I also have 4 nights in Palm Cove and another 4 nights at Port Douglas .Plenty of time ( I hope ) for warmer weather and more sunshine .Cheers ! John .
Oh man... I am jealous! FYI,. You're the second person who's responded today about being in cairns and eating at Bagus Cafe! 🤣 Enjoy cairns!
So weird how much the rain was an issue
Suppose my plans to walk to a few restaurants were foiled. Taxis weren't turning up, Uber wasn't responding.... Great excuse to return though!
Just a small tip'humans' don't melt in the rain😮
@14:27. Local language is Chinese in Cairns?
Isn't it? 🤣
Carbs on carbs😂😂😂
Hahaha.... Don't know how else to call it.
People in Cairns have access to the best fruit, vegetables, meats, fish and the produce is fresh and wholesome. Why then is it that cafe's, restaurants and hotels are serving very ordinary meals to patrons?
Could it be that the quality of cooks and chefs in Cairns is a problem? Or is the problem with the owners of the establishments serving food?
I ache for a good meal at a restaurant in Cairns and feel sad for tourists visiting Cairns, paying a lot for meals and being disappointed.
Something needs to be done.
During this trip, the weather was very bad so that sorta limited where I could go. Otherwise, I look forward to returning to Cairns.
