Fitzroy (and most of the inner-north) has become stupidly expensive to eat now. Ironically it's become a lot cheaper to eat out and drink on Chapel St, Prahran & Windsor, than it is up in the traditionally working class Fitzroy, Collingwood, Northcote, Brunswick etc now!
In the US, we go to Costco. It's really cheap and tasty, but don't expect it to be that healthy. But, what can you expect when you can get a large pepperoni pizza (a whole pizza -- not one slice) for US$5.
later followed by a $17 burger - what a fuckin rip off - they saw this sepo comin lol At my local fish n chip shop I can get a burger, chips and can of coke for a flat $10, and the burger was as good as what he was eating. That is in QLD.
It's not cheap for Australia. Don't be delusional. I live in Melbourne and there are plenty of places to get a quality meal for the $10 mark Also fish shop burgers can be great but no way in hell any fish shop burger is as good as one you get from a burger place or pub.
You can, rooftop bar in Melbourne does burgers at that price point and they're honestly the up there with the best burgers I've ever had. That's just one spot too, there are plenty of spots you just gotta have a keen eye.
Every restaurant is that price especially in the city and I thought Melbourne was the most expensive western city in the world untill I went to Auckland
When you're in Melbourne please try a pot and parma, a HSP, a Four and Twenty meat pie at the footy. We are very lucky in Melbourne to be the most multicultural city in the world, you can eat Malaysian for breakfast, American bbq for lunch, Ethiopian for dinner and the best coffee in the world all day.
At the food court in Melbourne Central there's $2.50 garlic focaccias at Pazzi Per La Pizza which are super nice and filling, highly recommend for those on a tight budget !!!
Caity G at Dominos here in Australia, at least here in Adelaide, you can get several pizzas for just $5 each. Or at the Australian Pizza House, you can get some pizzas for just $4.
Some people have standars. I only eat fast food if there’s a new or limited item thats interesting or worth trying. Kfc makes me want to puke. As does mcd. Hungry jacks might be the only fast food place (apart from subway but i dont really eat there either) where their burgers dont make me gag. They actually (mostly) taste like a real burger. Almost. The slow cooked pork and slaw burger is dare i say, pretty good! Reminds me of the ones mcd in japan offers. $7 for a tiny burger though.... Believe me you’re much better off getting something decent but still cheap. $25 at tim ho wan and that $25 feels like money well spent.

My tip for anyone visiting Melbourne is Saigon Street Eats in St Kilda East. Best pho I've ever tasted in my life, and a huge serve for not too much. Also totally agree on Laksa King.
I really like the variety of great food Melbourne has to offer! You cannot go wrong with variety! I'll keep these places in mind if I make it over to Melbourne someday!
Missed out on so many actual cheap eats. Dumpling houses in Chinatown can give you a huge plate of dumplings for less than $10. Asian Beer Cafe in Melbourne Central (as of a couple of years ago when I was at uni) did a great $4 pizza lunch deal. Lygon Street has quite a few reasonably priced restaurants where you can get Italian food - my mate and I used to go to Universal all the time for a cheap and tasty lunch. I would never, ever pay $19 for a burger and chips.
If you're in Melbourne, come out West to Footscray. There's lots of migrant restaurants including food from Vietnam (lots of places), India and West Africa. My favourite place to eat is Cafe Lalibela on 91 Irving Street in Footscray (a few blocks from the station). It's very cheap and tasty Ethiopian food. The beer is very affordable too.
must try Brunch; Top Paddock cafe at Church st, Two Bird One Stone at Claremont st South Yarra. Fish n Chips; Hunky Dory at Chapel st. BBQ Pork & Roast Duck; Pacific restaurant Toorak rd South Yarra, Jinda Thai at Ferguson st Abbotsford. Steik; San Telmo resto (Argentinian cuisine) 14 Meyers Place, Steer restaurant at Claremont st, The Meat & Wine resto in Como Arcade South Yarra. Cafe; Laurent Bakery Toorak rd South Yarra.

Australia, and Melbourne especially has been a huge hub for immigration from Europe post-war, from Vietnam in the 60s and later from South Sudan! Melbourne has the largest Greek population in the world outside of Athens! Melbourne was also the first place in the country to introduce Italian-style coffee! We have even had a huge Chinese population since the 1850s, during the Victorian gold rush. So much of Australian cuisine is authentic or fusion cuisine - I highly recommend getting over here for our fantastic food scene.
Gotta have beetroot on burgers - so Aussie 😀 You've found some great options for the cheap eats! I love Pepper Lunch, and you can't go past a piping hot bowl of laksa! I like how you mentioned tomato sauce and chips - you get bonus points from us for that!
Lygon St for Italian! Easy to access from the city & close to Melbourne University. The atmosphere and food is amazing, date night perfection (accordions & cellos on the sidewalk!!) ! I would recommend 'la spaghettata' for dinner & watching a movie at Cinema Nova. Remember to get a scoop of Gelato at the end of the night.
whoa, as an American, I had no idea there was such a wide variety of foods available there! Seems similar to London in that regard. Great video, I will be adding Melbourne to my travel list!
Mamak has one of the best lamb curries in the CBD, so great choice. And although Trailer park Burgers are fantastic, they're not exactly cheap. Some recommendations : CJs Lunchbar, cheap Korean on Hardware St where you can get. Bulgogi don for $7.90. Om Vegetarian, no meat but super cheap authentic Indian at $7.50 all you can eat. Little Ramen Bar has some good cheap dishes for around $7.
I’m Aussie from Sydney (lived in the US during my teen years) & all the burgers place you went to are quite expensive!!! And it’s not called French fries and chips cause they are thick potato fries🍟
+DAM Motorsports News & race reviews Very cool! Glad you enjoyed the Singapore vids! I've got some more Melbourne videos from your home town coming up in the next few weeks!
Melbourne (pronounced "Mel-bin", BTW) has a big Greek population so you should try a (chicken) yeeros. As for hamburgers, there are lots of good local/suburban family-owned take-away shops where you'll get a burger and chips for under ten bucks.
In regards to Vietnamese dishes. You can catch at 30min train to Springvale. A Vietnamese restaurant called Hoa Tran. It is packed ALL THE TIME and it does look a bit dodgy. But every course food is FRESH and delicious.
French fries are chips, but not all chips are french fries. What you're generally looking at in this video are thick cut chips or just chips. What McDonalds serve are french fries also known as Shoe string fries
my refer for; Coffee, Cappuccino, Cake, Pannacotta, italia cucina; Pizza, Pasta all in one place; Brunetti Cafe at Flinder lane is the best bro :-) Dolce de Leche
HSPs are the best. I ate so much of them my last trip to Melbourne that I probably had the sauces coming out of my pores at the end of the trip. Without a doubt, CBD Kebabs are the best in all of Melbourne.
In all fairness, that comes out to be a little more than US$13. My credit card company was sending me texts with how much I spent while I was in Melbourne recently. It was a pleasure every time to see that I got charged $14 for a $20 purchase.
Hello Chris my son just went in Australia last summer august,He went in Sydney and homestayed there for 2 weeks is Melbourne and Sydney far? Will also visit Australia someday, can u pls. visit Maldives
+cherry sato Hi Cherry.. very cool. Melbourne is about 9 hours driving from Sydney.. or a 90 minute flight. The cities in Australia are all pretty far apart from each other. I'd love to go to the Maldives.. just haven't made it there yet!
I hope you got to try out the Central Markets in Adelaide. I like the Queen Victoria Markets, but the first time I went there I was a little shocked - I was expecting something more Central Markets than the Adelaide Central Markets. Still reckon the Central Markets here in Adelaide are the best markets in the country - and now we finally have Something Wild in the markets selling Aboriginal Australian food (of course, you have to take that home to cook yourself, or you could cook it in the parklands at one of the BBQ locations).
You would have been better off going to Mr Burger for a cheaper and better burger down Brunswick St. TBH Royal Stacks and 8bit are better burger options and most of their burgers are less AU$19.
Thanks 4 replying you my friend made my day if your ever in the Philippines give me a buzz I got a couple houses out here you guys are welcome anytime. Take care mr. Yellow, James Alfred Strong the 3rd I live in Maitum in Mabay. It's in Mindanao. Huge fannn!.
I live in Melbourne and there’s so many other cheaper places, $19 AUD isn’t really that cheap if you think about it compared to the US dollar, economy is pretty shit atm
Ps just a spoonful of oil per rotti should do do not deep fry I made that mistake a few times at first it was good but super greasy now I know how to cook it I buy mine at the freezer section in robinsons mall gensan in the Philippines it's dam good hehe love your channel it's super.
Satay (Sate) is originally from Indonesia, not Malaysia. And the "Mee Goreng" that you mentioned which is also in that Malaysian restaurant, it's actually called "Bakmie" which is originally from China. Wth Malaysians like to steal other countries' dishes to claimed to be theirs - -" Btw, I'll go to Melbourne too in 2 weeks. Am so excited 🥰
Bruh tomato sauce and katchup are different. Plus come to st albans 3 piece fried chicken and chips for $6.90 and its some of the best fried chicken ive ever had
$19 is an absolute bloody rip off! Hotels serve beer and drinks not proper hamburgers! It looked ok though but there's better things available for a lot less than $19 believe me. If you want the best value for money and best tasting Hamburgers and Steak Sandwiches there are only 2 places worth going to that are truly the best and will save you a lot of time and money - Embassy Taxi Cafe in West Melbourne ( 547 Spencer Street open 24 hours)and Andrews Hamburgers in Bridport Street, Albert Park (and now also in Franklin Street in the city). Andrews Hamburgers has been voted the best hamburger in Australia on a number of occasions and both of these joints are institutions! Greek food - the best places are Jim's Greek Tavern, Johnston Street Collingwood and Lambs on Lygon Street, Carlton. There is also a Greek Souvlaki joint at 315 Brunswick Street which is pretty good too with incredibly nice tender lamb. Steak houses - Vlados in Bridge Road, Richmond and best Charcoal Chicken is Melbourne Charcoal Chicken, Victoria Avenue, Albert Park. Not all of these places are cheap, but when you compare the quality of the food to some crappy places and the prices they charge, then it works out probably about the same in terms of value for money. Best pub in Melbourne - Exford Hotel, Russell Street, City (great Pizza's $8 and nice drinks) and also the Mitre Tavern in Bank Place, City and Sherlock Holmes Tavern, Collins Street, City but the Exford is the best of the 3. The very best restaurant in Melbourne as far as I'm concerned is a showdown between The Teppanyaki Inn at 182 Collins Street, City, Vlados in Bridge Road, Richmond and The Flower Drum in Market Lane, City and also a real hot little joint which is worthy of short listing called Ants Bistro in Corrs Lane, City (off Little Bourke Street in Chinatown). Best Pizza joints, by far, are Favori Pizza, Victoria Avenue, Albert Park and Patony's Pizza, Clarendon Street, South Melbourne (opposite Coles). Best Thai restaurant is Chin Chin, Flinders Lane, City and Thai Taste, Johnston Street, Collingwood. There you go, I haven't listed all cultures of course but that's 50 years experience of eating in Melbourne for you that will definitely direct you to some very serious mouth watering encounters which you may not have been aware of for your next video!! Happy eating! Cheers,C.
Sausage roll roll ! Now what you do is get an sausage roll and a bread roll of you're choosing , I like wholemeal , tear the bread roll down the centre put the sausage roll in add tomato sauce , eat . Cheapest meal ever !
Not if you're going to a proper burger joint. Usually the cheapest burger on a menu is a cheese burger which is usually around $8 - $10. I'm not talking about fast food burgers. Legit burger places with fresh ingredients often go for about $15-20 for a burger with fries.
If you're American you have to consider the exchange rate. $1 AUD is about 0.73 USD. And Melbourne is the second most expensive city in Australia, right behind Sydney. Beer is quite expensive. $7 for a pint is considered pretty cheap. Usually they're about $10-12 depending on the beer. The $19 burger and fries is kind of standard at a dedicated gourmet burger restaurant, more high end vs the fast food style ones. Much better ingredients. Melbourne has a very strong burger culture and they're usually quite large.
As an australian. $19 is stupid expensive
The first burger
Hang Su my Burger $6.5
You'd be better off going to Macca's it's much cheaper
Fitzroy (and most of the inner-north) has become stupidly expensive to eat now. Ironically it's become a lot cheaper to eat out and drink on Chapel St, Prahran & Windsor, than it is up in the traditionally working class Fitzroy, Collingwood, Northcote, Brunswick etc now!
Douglas Roth or Hungry Jacks
a high qualtiy, cheap, traditional place to eat in melbourne is Bunnings
Nice one 👍🏻
lolololol bunnings for the win!
Rose Riak 👍
Oh yeah.!
In the US, we go to Costco. It's really cheap and tasty, but don't expect it to be that healthy. But, what can you expect when you can get a large pepperoni pizza (a whole pizza -- not one slice) for US$5.
$19 for a burger is VERY expensive for Melbourne. Not a good start to a CHEAP list.
Fitzroy (Brunswick St)- Definitely not the cheapest suburb to eat.
You had the beetroot on the burger, but did you have an egg on it as well?
You clearly didn't his his explanation it's not so much the cheapest listen open your ears a bit more
@Baghdaddy a place in sunshine has a 12 dollar burger and it's quality
"Cheap"... The first thing is a burger for $19...
later followed by a $17 burger - what a fuckin rip off - they saw this sepo comin lol At my local fish n chip shop I can get a burger, chips and can of coke for a flat $10, and the burger was as good as what he was eating. That is in QLD.
The_Man_from_Epsilon_Crucis whats the shop name? Cuz I'm going to Melbourne coming end of the month
It's not cheap for Australia. Don't be delusional. I live in Melbourne and there are plenty of places to get a quality meal for the $10 mark

That's just one spot too, there are plenty of spots you just gotta have a keen eye.
ikr HAHAHAH wtf
I live in Melbourne and I have never seen a hamburger that overpriced in my life!
that is the standard price now!
It's so sad now, the boreks are now $5 (i think) and constantly increasing
Everywhere on Earth everything is getting more expensive
Every restaurant is that price especially in the city and I thought Melbourne was the most expensive western city in the world untill I went to Auckland
Wil's World 8bit is doing it for 14
Bunnings you can get a $2.50 snag in bread with onion and choice of condiments. Can't beat that mate.
Patrick Corbett haha yes cheap and tasty
Don’t forget the can of coke :)
The best!
+Melissa Smith Thanks for the tips!
Yes the HSP is to die for.
*shakes head* parmy not parma... #adelaidethings
And a Souvlaki

That's not cheap dude. WTF $19 for a burger and a tiny serve of fries. $7 beer. WTF!!!
a $7 pint is pretty decent man.
Yeah, you guys can enjoy your foods!
Melbourne is an expensive city lol
The QV market I would definitely agree. But, yeah the burger...even though it really looks yummy may be expensive to a lot.
I'm surprised that you didn't check out universals Italian restaurant on Lygon street, massive chicken parma chips and coleslaw for $14
I will next time! Thanks for the tip!
At the food court in Melbourne Central there's $2.50 garlic focaccias at Pazzi Per La Pizza which are super nice and filling, highly recommend for those on a tight budget !!!
+Caity G Great tip thanks!
Caity G at Dominos here in Australia, at least here in Adelaide, you can get several pizzas for just $5 each. Or at the Australian Pizza House, you can get some pizzas for just $4.

+Max Power Good deal!

Max Power Hungry Jacks Super Stunner Meals lowest price $5.95 gets you a cheese burger, small fries, drink, 3 chicken nuggets and a mini drumstick.

Aussies R so obsessed with parmas that some pubs offer different versions like the Hawaiian parma, The Aussie parma, the avocado parma so it always has the tomato paste and cheese but the hawaiian might have ham and pineapple on it too.
+Karen Baxter Thanks for the tip on pub parmas Karen!
There's a website called 'The Happiest Hour' that gives you a list of pubs having meal &/or drink specials based on the day & area you choose. There's an app version, but I've found it to be a bit buggy.

We have Ketchup at the shops too. Not the same as Tomato Sauce.
Keep in mind the prices are slightly higher in the heart of the city as shown here. Go into the inner suburbs for fair prices good food

Btw, I'll go to Melbourne too in 2 weeks. Am so excited 🥰
I am so jealous of Tofer traveling all over .... lucked!!

Plenty of places you can get $13 burger and chips and $2.50 drinks.

Great video Chris!
Your videos are so fun to watch.
Thanks!
+stephen melb Thanks Stephen! I appreciate the kind words!
And the 8bit burgers are yum as
$19 is an absolute bloody rip off!

Thanks for Shaing
Thanks!
The fish and chip shop would’ve charged cheaper for a burger with beetroot in it
Laksa is Malaysian, also $10 for laksa...there are so many other places that you can get a bigger bowl for $8.50
Don Dons is legit!!
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I'm Canadian, and found that food/groceries in Australia, in general isn't inexpensive. I love Australia nonetheless.
I used to live in Australia. Restaurants in the Australia are too expensive because of employee's high wage.
Living expenses in Melbourne are high, please give them a break
Asian restaurants probably offer best value for money
I live in Melbourne and I know a place you can get a burger and fries for $8.50 so you should probably explore before claiming that $19 is cheap....😳😬
And the place for the cheap burgers is? :)
I'll check it out next time.. thanks for the tip!
Not if you're going to a proper burger joint. Usually the cheapest burger on a menu is a cheese burger which is usually around $8 - $10. I'm not talking about fast food burgers. Legit burger places with fresh ingredients often go for about $15-20 for a burger with fries.
ArkRaider22 I can ensure u this burger and chips that come on the side are very filling
@@jannartmerza9045 pay attention he gave am explanation actually saying this isn't so much a cheapest eats list
Sir i am burger chef... You can help me.. I want job in Australia...
Amjad Hossain The jobs are posted on gumtree
please come to Malaysia for the best Laksa!
You missed out on the Bahn Mi's!!!
All the foods to me, are very expensive there.
So beautiful. wow!
Meat and vegetables in all these food places are Australian grown products...the spices would be from Different places...
Rates for hotels you review would be very helpful. Rack rates.
Why you go all the way to Melbourne to eat Indonesian, Taiwan, Malaysian, Japanese food?
Because it's tasty! ;)
What did you expect to eat in Melbourne. Were multicultural
