  • Kirill Gerstein - Virtuoso Étude after Gershwin’s “Embraceable You”, Earl Wild
Steinway Artist Kirill Gerstein performs Gershwin’s “Embraceable You” in a setting by Earl Wild at New York City’s Steinway Hall. Earl Wild’s Virtuoso Etudes transform Gershwin’s popular songs into works that challenge the technical prowess of the best concert pianists - all without losing the underlying style of the originals.

One of my favourite Gershwin tunes. Beautifully played , thank you.. I’m sat under the stars in rural Dorset UK listening to this ......half empty bottle of red .....feeling...... very mellow...

my fabulous Brother, Sean would play this - also Bach, Rachmaninov, Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven, etc. etc. - He died in a tragic accident, a few days ago. - I adored him ... - " Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest"

    Que belleza de estudio.
Los pianos Steinway New York son mis favoritos, con su legendario "tono americano Steinway".

I really like the pacing that you have on this. Many pianists rush through sections that need more finesse.

Brilliant playing on what I'm sure is a gorgeous Steinway. Sadly they aren't fully captured due to dud recording technique.

really nice and fresh interpretation, though I think Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy and Igor Lovchinsky rule in this repertoire.

@@henrif.9278 Oh wonderful. I didn't know it. I heard him play this as an encore after a recital a 2 years ago.

Nice to see Steinway celebrate Earl Wild today, even though in his lifetime, they basically snubbed him.

Earl Wild didn't care for the sound and condition of most Steinway's - he played them until 1946 but the Baldwin piano company was nicer to him.

As an old friend and pupil of Wild, I can imagine that he would have been quite enchanted with this original and expressive rendition. What a marvelous musician-pianisy here!
