If you can't join 'em, beat 'em! When his long-time dance partner abandons him for the Ziegfeld Follies, Don Hewes decides to show who's who what's what by choosing any girl out of a chorus line and transforming her into a star. So he makes his choice and takes his chances. Of course, since Fred Astaire portrays Don and Judy Garland plays the chorine, we know we're in for an entertainment sure thing.

0:24-0:43 is so harmonizing and lovely. My favourite part of the whole number - especially the beautiful emphasis on ‘only with you’. Judy is just such an emotional and impeccable singer.

Very nice pair of great dancers n humorist. Nice watch both together. Resemblance of classic movie Pygmalion n A star is Born. What a dancing calibre Fred had. Top Hat, Funny Face Easter Parade has classic example. Judy also a great dancer.Wizard of Oz is classic.

I drove through the cotswolds ( uk ) countryside in the pitch black the other night, windows down, this song on repeat - and for a few glorious moments I felt that I was in complete heaven. How have we stooped from lyrics and melodies like this to modern day songs about pure filth...
Irving Berlin and his beautiful music deserve the highest praise. Composers make or break the singers.

These were great entertainers, backed up by great support teams, without which there would be no continuity! Think Judy's phrasing was spontaneous? She was rehearsed and coached, then properly directed in the scene! Likewise Fred.
But she made it seem as if she hadn't rehearsed; as if it were all spontaneous. That was part of her genius, and no amount of rehearsing and coaching could teach her that.

As beautifully performed as the number is, it's kinda weird when full orchestra kicks in and Judy is still gently tinkling away on the old piano.

A song wasn't really sung until she sang it.
Look at the back of her dress, it’s all wrinkled, and looks split, looks like there are splits on the sleeves. The entire dress is ill fitting, and the colors are awful. They never knew how to dress Judy Garland. Occasionally they got it right like in meet me in St. Louis, or a star is born, but most of the MGM movies have her looking awful. And look at Ann Miller in this movie, every costume is perfect.
Shows how great she is that she rose above the bad costuming and was still the best thing in the movie.
The Andy Hardy movies were the worst. She always looked awful.
