For everyone commenting on how amazing house parties looked in the 1940s, this is a movie made in 1944 that takes place in 1903 during the St. Louis World's Fair.
God Yahweh loves and offers Salvation Only by Faith in Jesus and His Sacrifice, because we are sinners and deserve hell, but God the Father who is Great in Mercy sent His Son Christ Jesus to die in our place (As it is written in Isaiah 53 , Daniel 9...), and with His Birth, Life, Death and Resurrection He gives us Life, because He is God (as it is written in Isaiah that He is a Mighty God, in Micah that He is Eternal...), and when He dies instead of us, He who is Perfect pays our sin, only by Faith in Jesus and His Sacrifice, there is no other way, no other, and He Resurrected because He is God and He is True, and because of His Resurrection we have Hope to Resurrect ourselves too The Wrath of God fell on Him, so that it would not fall on us, and He offers us Salvation Only by Faith, because our works of justice are like filthy rags before a God Three Times Holy, God bless you....

@@patapon646 Fuck you. Also not true at all. My great grandfather and grandmother lived here during and before the war. He fought in said war and built up his own American business.
I would rather go to a party that had hot chicks dressed as wenches to show their busts pushed up like the Oktoberfest girls do and serve all sorts of foods and drinks to guys dressed barbarian attire or what they had on at the time.
such attires and parties didnt exist back then. Hollywood films didnt accurate depict American culture unless its western/historical film at this time. Only in the 50s to early 60s did they start depicting american culture as the rise of teenagers as a group started copying the way hollywood stars dress. In a way, this predicted the future by becoming the fashion trend starter for young people.
I was born in St Louis in 1940, my dad was a streecar motorman on the line which went behind the back yard of the Smith household on Kensington and, yes, this is what house parties were like right into the late 1950s and early 1960s. By the way, the parents were always there and the eats divine.
My mother was born in 1920. She grew up in a rural area, and once recalled that when she was a teenager, parties were called "play parties". A fiddler would go to a house, play for a while, then he or she and the young people at that house (and possibly another musician) would go to the next house, and then to the next house, picking up people along the way, etc. The last house on the stop was of course filled with people. For folks in rural areas, life in the 1930's really wasn't much different than it had been for people in 1903.
Every time I see this marvelous film, I ache with a desire to enter the screen and join the Smiths and their friends at their party. When Woody Allen built a whole film around that idea in "The Purple Rose of Cairo", he was speaking to a widely felt human desire to enter idealized moments created in dramatic art. I've seen theater productions where ensemble dance numbers on stage were so joyous that the happiness was infectious -- just as with the Smiths' party, you could FEEL the audience straining at the leash to go up on stage and join in the fun. THAT'S entertainment!
One of Garland‘s best performances! During the filming of Meet Me in St. Louis, Garland and Minnelli had an initial falling out, but they soon started a relationship and married on June 15, 1945. Liza arrived in 1946!
The Technicolor is absolutely gorgeous. It was an expensive process but the results are stunning. If you haven't noticed, often today's films are very dark and smokey. They have a dystopian feel to them. This reflects our very pessimistic and ugly attitude as opposed to the bright, colorful and positive film presentation of Americans in the midst of the greatest war in human history. And, of course, we are the ones drowning in our own affluence and obesity.
Also, you have to consider that in that time Hollywood was being run by conservatives, who tend to be happier and more optimistic because they believe in a higher being (i.e., religious). Liberals took over in the late 1960s (aka New Hollywood) which is when sex/nudity, violence, and profanity started becoming commonplace in films. The reason why movies have gotten grim and depressing in recent years is because Hollywood has been usurped by leftist radicals (i.e., 'woke') who tend to be atheists and pessimistic (and unpatriotic). The only way you will see positive, hopeful films again is if and when Hollywood pivots back toward the right. Perhaps conservatives will recapture Hollywood in the 21st century? In fact, Hollywood was rather liberal during the silent film era, and the content got increasingly dark and risqué with the advent of sound in the late 1920s. This short period (c. 1927-1934) is known as Pre-Code Hollywood and scandalized society, which is why/how religious conservatives seized control in the 1930s via the Motion Picture Production Code (aka Hays Code) and reigned supreme for the next three decades (aka Hollywood's Golden Age).

Minnelli como director cuida cada detalle que cualquier toma de sus películas podría colgarse el Louvre
Does anyone else notice the extras in the back are wearing outfits that would later be used in The Trolley Song number?
I didn't notice the costumes, but did notice one of the girls from that later number; no doubt St. Louis was a smaller city then!
johnfd0210 Most of the extras in this number would later be used in The Trolley Song and various other numbers. I find that super interesting
It be so kick ass with a drum beat but this is lovely
Must've been FUN throwing parties at your house back in those days.
Possibly my favourite 'Judy' entry of them all. 01:56 - when she takes from the Lovely Lucille Bremer.
AN INCREDIBLE RENDERING FOR SKIP TO MY LOO EVER AND STEREOPHONIC SOFT TO MY LOO, GREAT! MERCI BEAUCOUP, THANKS A LOT FOR THAT GREAT HISTORICAL FILM MOMENT EVER. EMMANUEL FROM France. Merci Beaucoup
Movie recommendations like this, please! I need more of these movies. Movies set in this time are always going to be better in my opinion.
the sound of music, singin in the rain, white christmas, mary poppins :)

I wish parties were like this
I knew I heard the melody between 0:54 - 1:02 and also 1:59 - 2:05 before!!
It took me a while, but it's the same melody as the theme of Barney the Dinosaur. Just in case thinks this part sounds familiar.

Anyone els wishes their parties were this fun 🙋♂️
HELLS yea dude! This stuff is right up my alley! I LOVE parties like this!
I appreciate this movie because despite it taking place in 1903/1904, most costumes worn are from the 1890s. I love both eras but definitely prefer 1890s fashion
@Noodle Bob ya ik... I said it was taking place in 1903/1904... it was actually pretty clear of a comment so idk where you got confused and thought I didn't know that
Well, it IS St Louis, and they are about 10 years behind...
@@Engelbird lol true, but St. Louis was a boomin place back in the day like Salt Lake City, so im sure they had up to date fashion lol.
Omg, house parties back then 😂 yuss... pre twirk crap.
i love movies of simpler times
