Sean, there's hardly any 5.0 V8 because they only offer it from the XL to Lariat trim levels. They are forcing you to buy EcoBoost garbage. And if they offered it up to the top trim level, I'm sure you would see a lot more.
Most people who have had both in the 21 and up body’s would choose the v8 again. I know I would, the 3.5 is a great engine, but the v8 is the better all around package.
@Honoer I agree. Between them not offering the v8 in the higher trims, not offering traditional analog gauges on all trims over those hideous digital gauges to the lack of being able to order your own options and being forced to buy packages has turned me off from the 24 F150s. I hope the Super Dutys don't follow that trend
Dealerships are trying to order 5.0s but the government is limiting how many. I’ve heard many dealerships complaining. Especially because in real world driving the 5.0 is better on gas mileage than the 3.5.
The 5.0 has the ability to be better on gas and be far more reliable than the 3.5 where it struggles is competing with the fuel economy and low end torque of the nano twin turbo v6 (2.7)
@@Mcnibbus I would agree on gas mileage of the 2.7 but all my buddies who have the 3.5 get about 1-2 mpg less than my 5.0 normal driving. We all run 33s with 3 inch lifts I also think the 5.0 handles the heavier tires and lifts better especially in the gas mileage realm.
Just picked up a 2024 STX with a 5.0 V8 TODAY at my dealer. Traded in my 22 STX with a Coyote. I am good for at least 5 more years with my beloved Coyote !! They are getting VERY hard to find. I recently purchased a ‘24 white Supercrew STX 4x4 with the 5.0. The look on the salesman’s face was priceless when I told him the spec I wanted. He was genuinely concerned they wouldn’t have what I was looking for despite it being a large dealership with F150’s as far as the eye could see. Most STX’s had the 2.7 with some having the 3.5. You’d think I was looking for some odd special spec. Luckily we found one and it was the only one we had. The Ford CEO said in an interview not long ago that they’ll never get rid of the V8. I guess that doesn’t mean they won’t produce many. Clearly pushing the ecocrap.
how is the reliability? I plan to buy something new for the first time, and want it to last. Not some over engineered garbage that won’t last the test of time. I’m a owner of many “old” trucks and cars that are built to last, but want something modern for once. Just don’t want a money pit
2018 5.0 xlt with 10 spd and i have no complaints on the gen 3 and I think you are correct about it going away. I believe it will become a collectors. I had a 14 F150 FX4 with the 3.5 V6 in 60K I had right turbo anti freeze tube leak and just out of the 5 year 60K warranty my left turbo started leaking oil, traded it after that. I would go for the V-8 anyday!
I bought a 24xlt, 303a ,6.5 bed Im so glad i went with the V8 instead of the 3.5. Plus i walked out spending 58k because i get the A plan and dealer incentives... msrp was 68k! 🍻
I bought a 2016 FX4 new and drove it from Florida to Texas to Colorado and back 5k miles and averaged 20 mpg. Still have the truck 9 years later with no problems. Love the coyote, yall can have all of those 6cyl junk motors. Still gets 18mpg lifted with 33" tires. Also love the 6 speed tranny.
I bought a new Ford F150 in 2023. They did not have a STX with a 5.0 on the lot. I wanted a 4x4, F150, FX4 pkg, Black appearance pkg & 373 gearing. He told me that was a unicorn, but he found me one & it is a hell of a truck. Great power! Go big or go home.
Ur reading the mustang coyote specs. That's a 4th gen. And it has less compression than the mustang version. Thanks for the video bud. Love the channel.
Thank you for the in depth look! I am considering an F-150. If they have a problem with the pew pew, then that is their problem and not yours. You gained a subscriber if for only that alone.
I am happy with my 2018 F150 5.0, did service on the transmission before 50k and opted for a catch can for the pcv valve to help with oil not flowing in the intake chamber. Keep it simple service with more cylinders doing less work.
I bought a one year old 2019 crewcab F150 with the 5.0. I was concerned about the fuel mileage, never having owned a V8 before. I get 17-18 in town and 22-23 on the freeway light load with a fiberglass campershell over the 6.5 ft bed. This is better mileage than I used to get with my little state rig, a 3.7L Jeep Liberty SUV, on the same roads. I never expected this good mileage in a large V8 truck. It accelerates my 3300 lb boat onto the freeway reaching 4000 rpm, this engine never really has to work hard in my use. I did have to do a mild top end cleaning at 70,000 miles and now use premium fuel. Love this truck and plan to keep it a long time. I don't have the lockbox but I can lock the center console with the key, so it is a lockbox anyway.
I think the reason the 5.0 is slower selling is because Ford limits how you can get it. Its unavailable on Platinum and K.R., plus if you want certain axle ratios or option mixes on XLT or Lariat, it is also unavailable. Ford intentionally limits how thus engine can be selected, sadly. I really hate that Nissan is killing the Titan. It was probably the most reliable half-ton, good pricing on it, and yes, it also had the panoramic sunroof as well.
A couple of points with a person that has a 2021 F150 XLT with the max tow package. We have a payload of 1,805. Itis similarly equipped as a Lariat. From what i can tell on Ford and other brands that have the large moonroof, they pull down that payload by around 200 pounds. In 2021 i wanted the 3.5 ecoboost, but this was the only truck they could find for us with the max tow package. True, you will get more power with the 3.5 and little better gas mileage when not towing and you will pick up around 50 pounds of payload since the engine weighs less. However, we have put on 54,000 miles on this Coyote equipped engine and we have had NO issues. Plus the truck has a lot power and pick up when you give it the gas pedal. One of our mechanics prefers all the Brands V8 engines, because he feels less can go wrong with them.
Very nice review Saw your sticker shots, and had to check out mine. Which is a 2017. I have the ecoboost which I wish I would have gotten a 5.0 back in the day. What is funny is I have the king ranch. It stickered 10,000 less and I have alot more options and the options listed where alot cheaper or just included. How 7 years have changed. Mine is paid off so not planning on giving it up for a long time. On a side note- still surprised the heated steering wheel still hasn't come back yet, and still only the 1 color ambient light option
I cannot believe this is the same price as an F350 Lariat Ultimate with the 7.3 gas. And that truck has more features (tilting headrests, wireless charger).
Im pretty sure it’s only a 20k+ dollar difference between them two models but honestly im with you. Anything around 50-60k I’m going to go for the 250 over the f150.
TC customs did a video on this two days ago. Fords won’t let them put 5.0s on the lot. EPA is crushing the manufactures ability to put anything but 6 and 4 cylinders for sale.
Reason they may not be as popular is that Ford now sells the powerboost at the same price after rebate. Also, you can't get the 7.2 kw generator with the 5.0. Really pushing the hybrid. Hoping they keep the 5.0 in the future stangs and they don't go the way of camero and challenger. That powerboost flys.
I have a 2021 KR and love it except that it has the powerboats drive train. It’s a lease and I would buy it hands down if it did not have the powerboast in it. Wanted to order a 2024 KR with the 5.0 in it, it’s not available. I order the Lariat to get the engine I wanted. I was told by my dealer the 5.0 is only available with a customer special order, that’s why you don’t see them on dealer inventory.
I would take the 5.0 over any of the other engines the 50 is gonna last you longer with a lot less problems. All these other engines with these turbos are having nothing but issues with the phasers and stretching chains and burning up turbos because the screens get plugged up that feed the turbo, because don’t change the oil enough. 5.0 don’t have any of those issues it just runs.
You're wrong. If I were to ever get an f150, it would be with a 5.0 v8 coyote engine. No small displacement turbo no no no matter the brand even toyota.
I had the v6 eco boost loved it but after 2 yrs the cams always knocked and especially when using remote start sounded horrible . I love my v8 coyote and love the 460 horsepower’
Ford needs to put a bigger radiator in these trucks. The single row rad is not adequate enough. I put a 2 row radiator in from Full Race and it solved the overheating problem when towing in 110 d days uphill. Max tow, should mean, max tow. That's my only problem with the truck.
The dealer here where I live also just seems to order the less reliable engines, very few 5.0's if any, and the 5.0 is the standard engine, 3.5L EB is an upcharge. I think once the 3 year warranty is over they can stick it to you for new turbos. This is 2024 maybe it's time to do direct to consumer and get rid of dealerships.
I have 150 with 3.5 and actually kinda like it but own it simply because a 5.0 wasn't available in a color or with the max payload/trailer package anywhere within my dealer's swap area.
It's not about popularity, it's about availability! If the government / EPA would let Ford put them on the lot, they would sell like hotcakes! Everyone would take the 5 L coyote over the V6 given the option! Those Coyote motors will last forever.
Ford pushes the V-6 to get their overall fuel MPG down to meet GOV regulation, I had to wait 6 weeks to get A V8 5.0 from my local dealer, that is what the manager there told me
I think another commenter mentioned it, but that is a gen 4.....started putting those in 21+ f150s and 24+ mustangs. The reason you dont see many 5.0ls isnt lack of desire from customers, it's because ford pushes customers towards the v6 twin turbos. Dealers have to accept what the factory ships. I ordered a 19 5.0l lariat in velocity blue.......dealer said oh that colors not popular......i asked how many lariat 5.0s they had in that color.......the answer was 0. The coyote is still the best engine option in my opinion.....wish they didnt add the crap cylinder deactivation in em tho. Id be tuning that off if it was mine and installing an auto stop eliminator.
No replacement for displacement. That power is all natural baby like my grass fed beef. Never worry about a turbo going out and it gets great gas mileage even compared to the regular 3.5L Ecoboost
Thanks for that!! That's the config. I want, but with the Lariat High package, Antimatter Blue paint & Truffle interior. Would be skipping that useless sunroof, though! Oh, and Max Tow package & tow mirrors gotta be part of it, too!! Been sitting on my retirement payout check for the last six months, wanting to buy one, but hoping incentives will start getting better first.....🤞🏽🤞🏽
The reason this is the case because the government controls the inventory that a dealer can buy. Their fleet has to reach a certain fuel economy range and "environmental impact" score. That is the only reason you don't see more 5.0 V8s there.
12:10 So under the back seat is a stained carpet and exposed steel bolts in a 70K+ truck, ya I can't understand why it's sitting there. I swear some of Fordssinteriors look's like the design team was recruited from the company that designed the county jail cells, wtf?
I have a 2015 supercrew coyote v8 . I do love the truck. Hopefully, my next truck will be the same 2024. But if ford gets rid of the coyote, I won't be buying Ford again. I want that V8😊! Don't want no d*** 6 cylinder crap..😅..
Personally, non v8 full size trucks are super lame. You cannot be at the feel and sound of a v8 and you are not losing reliability by shoving turbos into small engines. Imo
Love my 24 Lariat, looks identical to mine. I have the 3.5l ecoboost, the third truck I’ve had with the same engine. Never had any problems with any of them. Great for towing, 24 has 400hp, 500fpt stock. A tune only turns the 3.5l into a beast. And if driven properly with the tune can achieve 28 miles a gallon on fuel. Did it many times with my old 2020. Now I’m waiting to tune the new one.
@@CJColvin I drive semi, home daily. I don’t get time during the week that I would like. But that’s life, shi..y. But I have my weekend, learned how to save about 6 years ago. Changed my life!!!
It’s not that the 5.0 is not a good engine. Ford pushes the 3.5 Ecoboost to lower their overall tailpipe emissions output. The 5.0 is the better engine (my opinion) and gets similar fuel economy but puts out more emissions so Ford pushes the 3.5 instead.
Duh! The unpopular trucks are the turbo ones sitting on the lot. There are no 5.0 liters sitting on the lot because people are buying them while they are in transit to the dealer.
$75,000???? LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Ford is out of their mind. Did someone spike the coffee with meth during their pricing meeting? Looks awful with the chrome. The STX is the way to go. $75,000????????????????? LOL!!!!

Many do aftermarket trans coolers. Your coolant was running hot as well?
I think it’s cause the shutter closes alot
It's a Gen 4 in the 2024!! I just ordered one just like that one same color but a 5.5 bed!!!!
Got mine howling. 🐺
That’s my favorite configuration!
Does Ford still have the 5.0 ?
Yes they do
Only for the Lariat and below. Anything higher than the Lariat trim you get forced into the ecoboost
The coyote will be one of the last V-8s available in a half ton truck. Get them while you can.
It's not about popularity, it's about availability! If the government / EPA would let Ford put them on the lot, they would sell like hotcakes! Everyone would take the 5 L coyote over the V6 given the option! Those Coyote motors will last forever.
This 5.0 has one potential problem. Wet rubber belt driven oil pump.
You are a very articulate and well spoken, black man. I didn’t even think you were black until I saw your hand.
@@ajshapiro1269 Yes Sir. Blacks are not really blacks unless they vote for Joe 😁
Dude, WTF?!?!? You do know this is 2024 & not 1954, right?!?!?
Ford is not gonna stop making that engine anytime soon
No replacement for displacement. That power is all natural baby like my grass fed beef. Never worry about a turbo going out and it gets great gas mileage even compared to the regular 3.5L Ecoboost
no, you have just added Pro 2A subscriber.
That is the only reason you don't see more 5.0 V8s there.
the reason is unpopular is because of the price, you can get a 2500 diesel with Ram or Chevy for that price
Love my gen3 5.0 v8. Im putting a supercharger on it.
$75k for that truck is wild. i paid $2k less for my f350 srw, 6.7L, platinum in 2019.
12:10 So under the back seat is a stained carpet and exposed steel bolts in a 70K+ truck, ya I can't understand why it's sitting there. I swear some of Fordssinteriors look's like the design team was recruited from the company that designed the county jail cells, wtf?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but did he just call a Sig P356 a Glock?
Can't be unpopular as the F-150 is Ford's best selling truck
These price tags are ridiculous. I'll continue driving my 2011 f150 5.0. I would like to update but once again, 75k for a pickup is tarded.
Well just know you at least GAINED 1 sub for showing it 😂😂
Unfortunately the 10 speed is the weakness of these trucks. My coyote has been down a month because of it. Wish I had my 6 speed back.
I love my '18 5.0L Screw Lariat. And it was only $48k after rebate and discounts. Its $80k now, so I'll never own a new one again.
I wanted a 5.0 Lariat but all the Lariat in my area were 3.5.
Question. I'm perplexed. Why is it called coyote, 5.0 liter coyote engine? I'm behind my times. 🤭
It was the Ford code name for when they were engineering the 5.0L.
That's because people bought all the 5.0s.. While the crappy motors sit on the lot
You had me until you said Glock. It’s a Sig man. lol.
I mean, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was using "Glock" and a stand-in for just "gun" but that's a big stretch lol
@@SliderFury1 next thing you know he’ll be calling a Ford a Ram. Lol 😂
What job do you have and how much money do you make to afford that Ecoboost truck?
@@CJColvin I drive semi, home daily. I don’t get time during the week that I would like. But that’s life, shi..y. But I have my weekend, learned how to save about 6 years ago. Changed my life!!!
without a doubt I would get the 5.0 coyote.....that engine will last forever, the payload was extremely low
Yeah, all those options affect the payload.
The 3.5 had the max tow package now the 5.0 gets the max tow package.
Because they are harder to find and they offer more incentives to go ecoboost especially 2.7
Duh! The unpopular trucks are the turbo ones sitting on the lot. There are no 5.0 liters sitting on the lot because people are buying them while they are in transit to the dealer.
...WE, Buy/order the 5.0's (2022 XLT)..the v6's stay on the lot 😒
$75,000???? LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Ford is out of their mind. Did someone spike the coffee with meth during their pricing meeting? Looks awful with the chrome. The STX is the way to go. $75,000????????????????? LOL!!!!
On the update they did for '20 maybe '21 Nissan did update the Titan with the twin panel moon roof.
well that was a sig not a glock so im taking points off for that.
Let's pay $75k for an F150, thats the problem: price...
