- Sniper and Virus share a few similarities so testing them was a bit interesting.
Sniper is a unique unit available only to Britain. They have very long range but attack very slow. They are effective only against units and pose no threat to any vehicles or structures.
Virus is a unit available only to Yuri. They also have a long range and attack slow. They are effective only against units and pose no threat to any vehicles or structures as well. Virus has also spread an infection when an infantry unit is killed. Any other infantry near the infection will take damage over time and will eventually die if they stay long enough near.
Sniper has more health that Virus and much more range but Virus attack faster and have this special ability described above. Virus is more expensive and can kill infrantry units faster but taking into consideration Sniper's range, Sniper is no doubt harder to deal with.
At their elite level their advantages over the other seem to swap. Virus's range is much greater that the Sniper's but the Sniper attacks much faster. Which unit in the end is better? It depends on everyone's game-play style i guess!

They are the most British unit in the game which is fitting.
The Virus appears to be more of a designated marksman (err, woman) to serve offensively against multiple targets along with a squad, as opposed to the sniper whose superior range and anti-infantry role makes him better suited for defense

which is weird because in the lv 3 sniper vs lv 3 virus at 1:08 both of them seemed to have the same range when ordered to attack each other out of max range.
the t squared True! maybe the min. 7:48 was a bug of the irregular field, it's the only explanation.
perhaps.
If you watch the tests with Boris and Tanya, when the sniper / virus hold position they attack from their max range, whereas if they are ordered to attack move they will move significantly closer before firing. So I suspect this would be the same case likely in a 1v1 when it comes to tier 3 virus vs tier 3 sniper.

They both do 125 damage , but sniper has 14 range and virus has 10 range. Sniper get first hit so wins. Sniper has 125 hp virus has 100 hp.
This reminds me how messed up is the death animation of units killed by Virus.

Speaking of range, it would also be interesting to see which units can effectively kill a bomb truck before it causes too much damage.

Everyone is scared being yuri the enemy, i just use great britain and snipe those damn yuris, big xp too, im able to take out that god damn yuri prime building stealer
And use mirage tanks to counter those annoying masterminds. A group of deployed GIs can easily take care of chaos drones.
Snipers in IFVs are every enemy infantry's worst nightmare.
Plus, Snipers are also the easiest to make IFVs promote to Elite status. And when they managed to do so, they transform into extremely fast and formidable hit and run vehicles that would make even Kirovs beg for mercy. Not to mention Elite IFVs perform very well against vehicles and structures too.
So yeah, in such a way, Sniper IFV is pretty OP.
I think the issue with Virus is that the virus cloud takes a while to deal any meaningful damage and the enemy has long since moved through it. Only when you get a mass of idle infantry is it dangerous.
If the virus cloud acted more like Tiberian Sun's Tiberium gas where it was instantly fatal to infantry and it corroded buildings then that would be far more dangerous.

For this case :
Sniper good and safe than virus because virus's cloud can harm our unit too and Yuri has much better unique infantry than virus so virus perfect at zoning enemy infantry around the base as well (especially all GI unit)
Not recommend for defend ,their most units have vehicle or defensive only and capture the base play style
That's gave me more stress
sniper are in allied faction they have IFV so they can clear infantry enemy fast move back fast and safe enough to send engineer to capture buildings to use more benefits
In short : sniper are much more versatile on every situations but virus use for zoning attack and outbase defense only(so much risky)

Viruses are amazing compared to snipers in most early game survival games when the AI sends hordes of infantry against you.
I think that Virus is an unfair unit, because you only get a sniper if you play a certain country so its a special weapon. But Yuri's race automatically get a version of a sniper which is a bit unfair.

@@RichterBelmont2235 I agree, but honestly with non limited super weapons. Yes shes op as fuck. But she has so many weaknesses. Just full of specialty units. No core help, and every unit is really expensive. So early game rushing her in pvp is a viable strategy. Toxin tractors, demolition trucks, and mobs would take her base down in ten minutes or less.
Yuri's navy is suck.

Snipers: the fastest way to promote IFV.
Sniper IFV is probably my favorite unit in the game. At full veterancy for both the sniper and the IFV it deals with infantry faster than any other unit, from within the veil of the fog of war.

1. Yuri don't have AA in infantry & navy units so there's a balance..
Their gattling towers have less range.
2.Their navy are weak.
3.Spies can steal fron their mobile refinery. Snipers can disrupt their economy.
4. Their tanks lack firepower. Lasher have moderate damage. Their MindTank can be weakeaned if it control >3 units and weak vs drones (robot tank & terror drone)..

Sniper actually can damage vehicles and buildings, but his damage is small
Do you repeat tests? There's randomness involved in this game if you look at dogs for example, so you can't tell a result from 1 test.
I usually do multiple tests if I am pretty sure the result will not be the same.
My favorite, IFV sniper. It's eliminated sniper slow movement speed.
What resolution do u set to? 1024x768? Because I tried to play this game on windows 10 the resolution just looks weird
I downloaded a new launcher for the game and it had plenty resolutions. Can't really remember what I chose when I run it.
4:05 Also, Virus is a much better sniper if you shoot one of them and only shoot the rest of the guys only once.. Because there were many shots that she wasted because they were going to die anyways.

Sniper is a killer for a price of an attack dog. All he needs is ONE kill to make up it's cost. You achieve it instantly the moment enemy gets within deathball with a radius of 14.
Virus can be outranged, costs more and can be mobbed down cost effectively by conscripts she is supposed to be good against.

@Vorce 84 They have the same firepower and armor according to cnc wikia. The only thing I'm curious about myself is if a Pillbox has to "turn" to fire at enemies like a Sentry Gun does. Or, to clarify, if there is an equally short delay between spotting the enemy and shooting at the enemy.

How do you select multiple buildings? like in 4:39
Because in RA2 you can't multi-select buildings. Trying to lasso-select a building won't do anything, which is fortunate because in practical gameplay you might be trying to select units hidden among your buildings. Near as I can tell none of the C&C games let you multi-select buildings.

It's not multi select. Although I received comments suggesting how to do it I didn't manage to. In the video I have selected one building and just hover with the mouse over the other so both are health are shown but for a third building I wouldn't be able to do anything.

You can select multiple buildings by holding down the shift key while clicking on each individually. I am not sure how you would select all buildings of a type.
So sniper is more powerful, 1 on 1, but viral agent is superior against groups and especially if she gets upgraded. I think showing a viral agent in an IFV is a tad pointless to be honest. Boris is really impressive though. I'm really liking Russian units. I think if I had to choose between the two, I would go with the viral agent as a single unit won't be much of a threat, you want someone that can down larger groups faster. Once the VA is promoted, her range would be really deadly against groups. Until Boris showed up anyhow ;)
The thing with the cloud is, that the targets have to be stationary. The group has to be large for the cloud to be effective against it, while the group is moving. Which it will, since no player would be dumb enough to let them there, at which point the reduced range off the Virus will become very dangerous.
Its also more expensive, than the Sniper.
So my take on it, that the Virus only surpases the Sniper, when it gets the range upgrade at elite. With its higher DPS and elite range it becomes rather lethal. Even at the higher cost.
The Virus is a weak start with higher cost, but can be the best, IF you can take care off her.
The Sniper is reliant from the start, is cheaper, but doesnt advance that much throuout the ranks. Not that it needs to, since its still just hunting infrantry.
kommo1 at full veterancy sniper is superior. He gains a massive rate of fire, making him more superior at holding line against infantry advances, especially high HP infantry.
I find them great for killing enemy fodder before you engage The snipers will only auto target infantry unless the vehicle shoots them first.
The sniper is vastly superior when you take what kommo1 said into account. If put into an IFV, the unit will actually take out large (moving) groups faster than the Virus due to the higher ROF. Furthermore, the IFV will get rapidly promoted with a sniper inside. If you later decide to eject the sniper, you now have an extremely powerful and extremely mobile anti-air/structure vehicle, with the IFV having one of the most absurd elite ratios in the game.
tl;dr your enemy isn't going to just let its army stand still, nor is it going to send exclusively infantry. A sniper is better, in great part, simply because he has easy access to an IFV thanks to being Allied.
But remember, the Sniper is only limited to a Allied subfaction but Virus is a baseline unit for Yuri.
