- Tanya vs Boris! The eternal discussion about which commando is better!
Here we are comparing their abilities against various enemies and conditions.
Both Commandos can be recruited for a price of $1500 and only one is available at a time. They have completely different abilities with each other which makes it even more interesting.
Tanya basically has many many advantages over Boris. She generally have a lot of extra skills to use in a battlefield. She can literally kill everything in the game in one shot. Most infantry die instantly, and one C4 is enough to blow any building or vehicle in seconds plus there's barely any delay for the next target.
She runs fast, swim, crawl, destroy bridges, blow ships, is immune to mind control and is uncrushable. Her fire rate is very high and the damage she deals to infantry high as well. Her only weakness comes to defenses and basically the fact that she has to use close combat against vehicles and structures which expose her to great danger. Lastly, she is a much better version of a Seal. There's nothing better a Seal can do than Tanya.
Boris His only advnatage over Tanya is his greater range. Boris in basic promotion is not something special. He can kill many infantry in one shot and has quite a good fire rate but can quickly be overwhelmed by many infantry. He deals decent damage to vehicles and from a safe distance but can't do much on his own until the promotions start to kick in.
A Veteran Boris is noticeably much stronger. His range, damage and attack speed increase drastically making him quite a threat. Boris improves even more with elite status making him an army on his own. His range and his airstrike allow him to take targets from a safe distance and not being exposed in danger like Tanya which is the reason most players prefer him.

I still prefer boris solely because of his airstrike, i am having a blast when i was a kid and think that's really cool
I still think that's cool. I mean boris single handedly can destroy a small fortress without getting damage because of his airstrike power. Enemy base tanks and turrets keep killing my Tanya because she needs to get closer to destroy them.
Heck, since even Brutal AI can't comprehend where it shouldn't build its buildings, you can easily finish the game in maps such as Alamo.
I liked him as a kid because I could pretty much AFK from his side of the screen and he'd deal with anything that wasn't a full blown tank rush, deleting units and being intel. With Tanya, I'd have to hide her at base to prevent vehicles from killing her, at which point, what was the point of making her?
Boris is just too manly to crawl on the dirt just because he gets damaged.
Its primarily because no infantry in front of the great Boris would dare to take aim at him out of both sheer fear and respect.

Tanya is special agent, to micromanagement, Boris is like war hero, he assault enemy with army.
I think you got it mixed up, because the first mission (before time machine) Boris can be used to win the first half of the mission by himself.
But Tanya is an assassin.
If this game were realistic she would wipe the floor with him.

Never knew about the prone thing reducing damamge. Always thought it was just a visual thing.
It's been that way since the original C&C. Most notably is the level 7 variant for Nod where you have to capture an ORCA and destroy a village. If the bazooka goes prone too much it will take out your ORCA.
The infantry units also hit faster in prone position
A year-old comment I know, but one other interesting side-effect of this is that deployed units such as the GI do not benefit from prone damage reduction. So, contrary to what you would expect, a deployed GI actually takes more damage from enemy fire than a GI that's simply standing, because the standing one will go prone under fire.

Boris does have a prone position (he has the frames for it). He's just disallowed from using them.

You can tell that Tanya is made for those carefully design story maps, while Boris is just a good unit.
High Speed, instant kills against everything, but low range and dies the moment you stop miromanaging. Boris shows up with his team and can call the airstrike. Now the other side has to come out of their base, go past your units and get him. It really pulls the other side out of ther plan.

Boris is awesome, but you also can't argue with how big of balls Tanya has for planting C4 to a giant squid without hesitating

I rather choose Boris than Tanya for practical reasons. Since Boris can kill tanks and remove garrison structures good support to your units, huge horde with Boris is always nice, and micromanaging him is less painful. Tanya on the other hand is a commando you really need to babysit to get the full benefits sure he can tank infantry easily and kill structures but once you have a prism tank and mirage tank, Tanya is a more like a navy seal with better stats on usage. While Boris you can still use him on frontal assault with apocalypse tank or with tesla troopers and anti-air units and won't worry if he will get killed because of his long-range.
If you love destroy your enemies with a butt load of units. Boris is the best addition to the strike force. But if you love shady and tactical approach using spies or chronosphering annoying harassment in your opponents base. Tanya with Battle Fortress with spies is the best tactic. Or just put Tanya in the battle fortress if you refer using her than a bunch of navy seals.
I rarely use Tanya, but a lot of Boris. And most of the games I watched rarely use Tanya as well and If I have to guess its because a lot of her selling points are shared by SEALs which are cheaper and faster to grab. Her better stats don't really mean much in most cases. I think the only really thing she does that SEALs 100% cannot perform is killing unprotected miners. Sure she can c4 vehicles, but she also doesn't outrun most of the vehicles too.
At least Boris can be used as part of most strategies, while most strategies that involve Tanya, you can just use SEALs. Plus her quotes are kinda annoying :P

Unfortunately for her, her training did not stop the Soviet Commander from throwing her into Yuri's Gattling Tanks after she tried to act tough and threaten the great Commander and make fun of the Great Boris in Soviet Mission 3 :P

Boris is much better, use Boris elite + firepower in BF = BETTER TANK IN RA2
Had this sence it first came out, never knew tanyas c4 wasn't instant kill. Tho you'll never come across a landed kirov so I guess it was just an oversight on the developers
You can get a landed Kirov by selling your warfac before it can take off. This also lets you IC the Kirov.
Now imagine an IC kirov coming to your base.

Tanya’s C4 looks good in paper but in actual play, Boris’s AK is more practical to vehicles as it can attack at a range

Also - noone really uses Tanya because everything you'd need her to do, you can just use a Navy SEAL which is available earlier and cheaper.

There's no clear cut which one is better in every situation since it depends on what the conditions/pace of the game is. Tanya's way better if your opponents are noob and let you sneak her into the heart of their base, but against decent players nobody's gonna let you do that - not to mention a Navy SEAL can cause similar carnage for much less and much earlier. Boris has longer range, isn't stopped by Terror Drones, can deal with tanks by himself and is generally more annoying to deal with when sieging (on smaller maps where the MIGs fly and refuel much faster he's a much bigger threat; see: Tour of Egypt - a commonly played map where Boris can be very annoying), and if you somehow get your hands on a Battle Fortress Boris is generally better to be placed inside it than Tanya. If players are evenly matched, most games should at some point enter a sieging phase where Boris shines while Tanya can't do anything until you've already broken past their defenses and the game is already over by then.

Sapper has 2500 damage which is very extreme damage to Tanks so that’s why most of the tanks don’t survive when Tanya gets close to them... Kirov has 2000 strength and with promotion Armor gets multiplied by 1.2 😊 so maybe that’s why promoted Kirov survived the Sapper. But Tanya’s [and Seal’s] C4 will instantly destroy a building no matter how high the strength of it., one more thing, Boris’ AKM has no effect on buildings when you tried to mod him for not using his secondary weapon which is calling his jets (I forgot the exact name of his secondary weapon)

Migs get promoted in that case. And if they manage not to die, the effect becomes noticeable.
Here are a few pros and cons:
Tanya (Pros): Is an assassin who can hold her own against seemingly endless hordes of infantry, is good looking, modest, can swim, can sabotage buildings.
Tanya (Cons): Not as tanky as Boris, can be somewhat annoying, gets killed very easily by attack dogs
Boris (Pros): Can soak up a lot of damage, can call air strikes, is extremely loyal
Boris (Cons): Can’t swim.
I don't use them very often cause I often use Yuri Prime
Yuri prime can win any game alone if you are sneaky enough his only weakness is miners and linked prism tanks
linked prism tanks are really common though the bane of any infantry except for rocketeers , allies have the best endgame tanks synergy if used properly along with the cheese chronosphere tactics :D
Prime Yuri can just mind control and sell structures :)

Yuri Prime is good against bases but useless in direct combat. He can only mind control 1 unit at a time and his psychic wave blast is too short ranged to be of any consequence.
So basically: While Boris lacks the specilizations on Tanya and therefore won't deal as well with infantry and certain anti tank vehicles, he is also not countered by anti infantry vehicles unlike Tanya since he can hose them down. Also the ability to deal with any building and defense unless the enemy spends many times the value of one Boris to stop the MIGS.
I think his very all around solid output and ability to nix stuff from afar makes him a better commando. Also, as you showed, Tanya's C4 on tanks can be countered by micro, while Boris can fire on tanks well after they are out of range to fire back.
Boris: There is nothing I cannot do!

Anyway, for me, it's Boris all the way, just for the sheer fact that before YR, Sovs lacked a commando unit*. Just imagine the amount of brix me & my bro shat when YR came out, and not only was there an entire new faction, but the Sovs also finally got a commando of their own.
*Yeah, I know, in early RA2, the concept of commando unit didn't even exist outside of campaign. In skirmish/MP, you could.. like.. mass-produce Tanyas and they were almost 100% equivalent of Navy Seals. Good/bad ol' times. Anyone rember the Desolator bug/exploit?

Tanya has more synergy with spy. Find base weak spot, Sabotage power And detonate all structures

Tanya is better at dealing with those who cannot provide her with proper resistance. Boris copes well with those who can resist him and who cannot, but only with at least the status of a veteran.

The airsrike is very good advantage to boris when fighting the AI because it can be used from safe distance without getting killed from defenses buildings,unlike tanya who puts her life at risk to blow up a land vehicle (tanks) or buildings with defenses,in my view,Boris is better for combat,tanya is useful for defenseless bases,infantry and naval units
edit : boris and tanya will be a great duo,we will literally can take down a base

About Boris not proning, it seems like that appears to be unused animations. At least, according to the visualised animations seen in the Command and Conquer Wikia (Fandom).
Distinct skills, distinct advantages and disadvantages. Tanya is good for close combat and stealth missions, for she can take out infantry with ease, plus she can use her C4 Charges on buildings and vehicles (provided that she can withstand enough damage to survive when she attacks vehicles). Boris, on the other hand, is good for long range assault and support, for he can take out both and infantry and tanks from a considerable safe distance (with support and some veterancy) and call in MiG airstrikes on well-protected buildings and defenses to allow other forces to decimate enemy bases.
Well done on the comparison! Definitely these two are powerful in their own way.
In my personal opinion, they do need each other in battle, to survive. The duo would make a great offensive combo, just give them some anti-air support and KABOOM!

Boris is overall more useful against buildings and vehicles than Tanya. She's unstoppable against infantry though.

Mental Omega is just some modded Gameplay of the original version, its story isn't related to anything.
I think all these games favors allies most of the time they are superior. Playing soviets and winning against decent allieds players is very hard.

Boris is usable in competitive play tho, tanya isn't
doesn t need an upgrade , since you don t compare them as a single unit , tanks are meta and in a tank vs tanks fight boris has way more value than tanya
and most people buy seals because cheaper and can sneak kill the base same as tana and don t have a cap on build amount , because most of the time if you win the tanks fight you can go in and clean up the base , so you don t really rely on boris's air strike ability but more on his long range and good dmg against tanks along with ur tank army

Burn is probably my #1, not sure, but Burn , In Deep and HM2 definitely ARE my three most favourite RA2/RA2YR tracks of all time. Nuff said. So it goes without saying that I already started getting warm fuzzies in the first few seconds of this video...

Tanya is better stat-wise. But when it come to the actual battle, Boris is far more effective and more practical.
in a tank vs tank fight in PVP , which is usually how it goes he is better , but for sneak tactics like swim and show up in enemy base and go for his buildings or chrono sphere an IFV into enemy base seal or tanya are better

Can you compare game map and real map such as sub-diving mission map vs pearl harbour from google map or compare building location in game vs real place from sky view?
The Allied NEED Tanya, to compensate for how weak most of the rest of their units are compared to the Russian ones.
the allies are only weaker in early game , it is why they had to add the guardian GIs because of the tank spam of soviet
but if allies manage to get their prism tanks along with some grizzlies and IFV with engineers , guardian GI , etc good luck winning as soviet

Well depends on your basic strategy but tanya can replaced with seal with cheaper price and infinite amount of unit compared to only 1 tanya
