Red Alert (2/Yuri Revenge) is one of my all-time favorite games, but it's only now that I'm curious to research championships. I figured it would be interesting since I've always played with bots. And who knew that even today, there are people who post content from the franchise ♡
red alert 2 was the 2nd or 3rd RTS game I ever played. The others were starcraft, warcraft, and of course age of empires (3) - so happy to see that this game still has a community
Wow, so glad to see this game is not forgotten. I remember trying to find a way to get it and play it several years ago and couldn't find it anywhere (as in legally, not pirating it, I'm sure that way I would've found it) Coming from Starcraft: Broodwar, you can see that RA2 was made for fun, not for balance. The number of units and strategies seem to be very, VERY limited. A bit sad. In regards to other comments, while I can't wait to see if I can play RA2 again (if it even works on Linux), this game is NOT the greatest RTS or game ever made. Still it's a very nice, fun one. But the multiplayer seems to be its weak point if this is how typical high level matches look like. Also, for some reason, I don't remember drones. And seeing them here, they look very OP and un-fun. waay too gimmicky. I mean, the dogs and desolators are gimmicky too, but the drone seems to be an entire level above, way too fast and good vs everything on ground.

so I have a theory. I found QIEN's youtube channel and saw some of his videos. I noticed that he plays Chinese version of RA2 (like all text in the right hand side is in Chinese). I doubt that a Russian guy would use Chinese version of RA2. secondly, his name sounds Chinese, especially if you break it to Qi-En. really don't know why would he lie about nationality.
In the first game, why did he build desolators vs rhinos. Wouldn't it be better to make Tesla Troopers instead + Sentry Guns for the dogs while making more Rhinos on the back.
Meta at the top level does not allow for any infantry beyond deso or dogs as soviet. Desos are the most powerful unit in the game, even undeployed they take like 9 tank shots to kill them so shield your tanks nicely. Deployed of course they are capable of doing unlimited damage to unlimited units. They are very strong.
Is this RA2 or generals . One of the guys at the start keeps calling this a generals tournament. You said this jas only been out for ten years? I started playing this 22 years ago when my son was born. And yuri was already out at the point
@Iver yes I have been playing it for 22 years. I was confused because I tried generals and all the rest back then and did not like them. My son plays Red Alert 3, but again, I just don't like it. I'm with a small group that still plays this on the CD version. I like yuri because it lets you pick your starting position, which is great for teaching and covering a new player. And the new units. We never play yuri. And no prism tanks. What version do you play, steam? And what mods do you play. I bought the base game on Steam But I missed yuri. I just found out they have it!

Magnetrons outrange the Allies artillery (Prisms), Gattlings are superior to patriots, IFV's and flak, Brutes can't be trampled, Viruses are AOE snipers without needing British. They get Yuri Prime without needing to get a spy into a tech center, Boomer subs can kill anything with no weakness. That's before even considering all of the Yuri's, Masterminds and Psychic towers. The psychic dominator is also superior to the nuke/weather control. For some reason it even does heavy damage to buildings!

I completely agree. It's actually interesting to note the game was created with this technique in mind. Early "strategies" and guides for the game (made by Westwood) specifically mention using dogs in groups with tanks. It is unfortunate because I think it undermines the seriousness of the game, is silly, and also a bit of bad taste... But it's what we've been working with for 20 years unfortunately.

There's two ways to play online. Cncnet is what me and most of the world use. Rambo is what China uses. Qien plays a lot on Rambo.

I wish attack dogs were not a meta in replacement to infantry... it's very off-putting from a spectator
I completely agree. It's actually interesting to note the game was created with this technique in mind. Early "strategies" and guides for the game (made by Westwood) specifically mention using dogs in groups with tanks. It is unfortunate because I think it undermines the seriousness of the game, is silly, and also a bit of bad taste... But it's what we've been working with for 20 years unfortunately.
