Lol coming from the same guy that claims that the Ferrari Roma looks like the new V8 Vantage. I like and respect Chris Harris but he’s wrong when it comes to the Roma.
Chris Harris is very well rounded auto journalist, if you personally ask me, he would deserve to be part of the Top Gear trio, though that would just ruin the usual group we're used to. But anyhow, I could see him becoming a big part of Fifth Gear or even becoming a host of his own show that deals with cars. His vision on the abilities, technical details and capacities of every car after testing it are very well rounded. This guy makes more sense than Jeremy Clarkson, no doubt about that.
ladies and gentlemen, what we are looking at is the future of the automotive industry. This 458 italia is like no other car I have ever seen before, and in my opinion makes the LP560-4 look like the Ferrari's liitle brother. The 458 is a masterpiece!!
I love this car. Had a chance to drive it at the Las Vegas Speedway. Crazy acceleration and power, yet easier to drive than you might think. And the sound of that engine is simply unmatched. I wish I could own one. Hands down my favorite car.
Coming from an S2000 and Porsche Cayman S, what Chris Harris is speaking about at the 2-minute mark with regards to throttle response... When you go over speed bumps take your foot off the throttle, going over it with your foot ever so slightly on the accelerator will have your car jolting back and forth, it's crazy, and few will have ever experienced it because of sharp throttle response
I'm not really a Ferrari guy, I like german cars the most , I think they are about getting more from less... But this Ferrari is just stunning! I mean, I loved the F430 but this new replacement is just so much more than it's predecessor, the noise, the performance, the looks! It's not my favorite car, I think I would rather have an R8 V10 or the new 911 turbo even though they're not exactly in the same range. But this Ferrari gained my respect, it's a great piece of engineering and art!
Screw I think that you will find that the paddles are not on the wheel as that would mean that they would turn and you would not be able to change gear in a corner. They are massive alloy paddles and are sweet. My mate has a Seat Leon DSG box with paddles and its awesome changing gear that quick as no manual could ever keep up. Plus this is Ferrari's first striking car in a long time and is beautiful I see cars like this a lot around here as where I live they do a lot of the magazine features
I don't care about the price of them, for what they are .. they're worth it. These things look & sound awesome.. and they REALLY go!! This is what a modern ferrari should be. Fantastic cars!
that particular model catches on fire! Ferrari has decided to recall all of the 458 Italia cars it made this year, following reports of a number of the luxury cars catching fire. 1,200 of them
@athletesfootable He turned off the traction control to induce powerslide/oversteer. The quick movement of the wheel is to compensate for that. Watch the rear view of the car from the outside during turn exits, that's what's going on outside. When the car breaks loose at the exit is when the driver has to compensate with quicker wheel movement. When driving like this, the movement is automatic and necessary to keep the car reasonably balanced.
Actually the 458 is not meant to be the pinnacle of performance in Ferrari's lineup, it is as Chris pointed out the entry level mid-engined Ferrari. I think the Enzo and the F40 offer the "true performance" you speak of. However I think true performance isn't everything someone should look for in a car.
I love Chris Harris! My favourite journalist in the business. Why? He's a great driver as seen in the video, a great entertainer and he manages to provide ample technicle information! He has the ballance just right.
I see nothing wrong with the headlights. Remember there is a difference between 'ugly' and 'different'. Many of the best designed cars were 'different' at first, but then people get used to it and realise its beautiful, and as a designer i prefer when designers try to be different, which is why i appreciate all of Bangle's designs. Many people call them ugly, but they aren't, they are just very different. Take for example his z4, even today it still looks very new, and it will date well.
this car was the first car to take the record from Honda for most horsepower per liter on a naturally aspirated production vehicle.... Previously was the Honda S2000
wow that dual clutch gearbox shifts incredibly fast ...that may be disconcerting if you are used to a traditional torque converter style automatic...or manual....it seems like there is very little power interuption
a car that is creative, 'out-there', and meets functional ( practical and mechanical) requirements, yet is also extremely beautiful is really difficult. Also remember, you might design a car that looks good on paper, yet looks shit in 3d or as a model. Its hard to get it right. I believe they had that problem with the 612, because on paper as concept sketches it looked amazing, but it didn't end up as good as it was on paper. ...but still fairly good. they look alot better in the flesh.
not bad...I like it alot better than the 430 scuderia..but as was mentioned w/ earlier replies....yes there will be an update of the 458 in a few yrs; but this is how its always done...just like the Challange Stradale 360 followed the 360...and the Scuderia followed the 430. This is however, unlike Lamborghini, where the entry level car AND the flagship cars are updated every couple of yrs
True, the 612 and California aren't intended for the track but every Ferrari is honed at Fiorano. The 599 in its original form isn't the most comfortable on the track but the GTHE certainly is. The 458, however, is easily the most accomplished and complete Ferrari ever, maybe even the most complete car ever. It will be interesting to see how Lambo, Porsche and apparently McLaren respond.
Hey Chris, just read your article about Ferrari's testing policies, it's quite ridiculous to see a company with such a heritage and reputation going to such great lengths in "faking" results. I wish more reviewers would be as objective as you. Keep up the good work.
Chris Harris is the real deal !! When I want a laugh, I listen to Top Gear and when I want a REAL PRO review, this is the man ! Less and less I can stand the review from light headed youtubers who make a living out of thin air by telling to the world that they bought a new car out of their asses.
I'm not a huge Ferrari lover, but the look of this car is just outstanding....the rear glass looks kind of "lamborghini" but the overall effect is awesome. The only thing that disappoint me is that Ferrari didn't do any other extreme car after the FXX Evo...i'd b curious to see what they come up with
Ah, bella machina! I think this is the most beautiful and aggressive GT car Ferrari has made since the 288GTO. Simply stunning from all angles. Go Fernando, go Felipe--long live the Scuderia. Tifosi Steve.
this has replaced my all time favorite ferrari the 1987 testarossa. its taken ferrari almost 25 years to get it this right again. words can't explain how I feel, I bet this car never tells secrets and always stays real!
yes of course there is always room for improvement, but I think it looks great the way it is. Many people believe this a return to form for Ferraris styling. Although Ill reserve my final judgement until I see it in the flesh. Also imo the testarossa isnt the best looking car, its far to wide at the back and the late 80s design hasn't dated too well. But yes the 458 isnt perfect, but they did a great job. In my opinion the Alfa Brera is the most beautiful car on the road, the design is perfect.
This is a nice car, and has some of the top lines on a car that I have EVER saw. However the 430 scuderia is one of the best race-inspired cars for the road in its recent history. I would get the 430!!!
God damn perfect. The Gallardo has just been thoroughly stomped into the ground. There is really no car out there that can compare to this car in fit, finish, appeal and performance.
@eugenux Right. Look at the driver's movements... they definitely look sped up. If you only watch the road and listen to the engine you won't notice it. I like the EVOTV videos, I just can't figure out why they sped up the camera in this video.
Just been listening to harry metcalfe and Harris talking about this video, it cost £20 grand and nearly melted the servers. It is the first professional car review on you tube, and set the mould. It almost killed print there and then
Nice old video. Too bad it's at such low resolution. It sure would be nice if they had HD footage they could upload of this. (Though I have no expectation that they would.)
@TheVampyreCat to be honest, i meant in other words to semi-auto gear. some people just name it like that, really so it doesn't matter. but i dont think it takes away some of the thril or the driving experience. it is still a ferrari and it has so much to offer. most people dont even have enough exp to even try driving it. the challenge? well maybe ur right. but how can u be so sure about everything? try driving it first. im sure it is a pure shot of adrenaline to the system.
Just reading through the comments, it's funny how people think Harris can't drive or think they can drive better than him. Did they not notice that he turned off the traction control? Takes a lot of skill to drive like that.
In 2019 this car still hadn't dated a day, inside or out. Having no laggy infortainment screen probably helps
Nothing feels old about the 458. Even today. Since the 488 and f8 are based on the 458, that might be the reason.
2023 and it’s ass.
Hi. I am from five years in the future and your comment will still be relevant then.
Designed in 2007-2009, still looks new. Timeless mashine!
2:24 - "Noise - fantastic" - 2009
"I never liked how 458 sounds..." - 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 - Chris Harris.

Noise changed after 2011 IIRC

this car wont ever get old.
CarPassion 3 years later it still isn't
It will once they change the design.
NC Styles they changed the design it 458 italia looks even younger then the new one Dude....
@Israel ‘lasagne’ Adesanya true :)
5 years on and still going strong. It still looks comparable to the new F8 Tributo.

Still watching in 2020 and the smile from watching the in-car piece is real!
Still watching in 2023 and it’s a great car..this and the f430 spider😊

chris harris needs to be on a tv series, he would work really well on fifth gear
Was this video filmed with a toaster?

You should upgrade from your Potato 5D to the Sweet Potato 7D.

Probobly with a Ferrari 458 Scuderia, a bit lighter and darker paint :)
A part from that, I agree, it's truly an amazing car.
for around 220K, compared to other exotic cars, this thing is a beast.
Need more Chris Harris videos!
I love the onboards of this car at around 3:00 Min. it looks so effortless, sharp and smooth. It looks like so much fun.
Like the looks of a Ferrari 430 a hell of a lot better but it sounds freaking awesome and handles friggin tight!

Who has the balls to get that car loose like that on that narrow road haha what a beast

Thanks for another great video!

i always greatly value chris opinion about cars. this car, i love it.
one thing is for sure.. this guy knows how to drive
Just seen one of these on the road. Made my day.
Looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous, but the 3 exhaust pipes look a bit.... weird.
Amazingly handsome interior... and looks like it's a very fun track to have joyride too!

Need one just to complete my life. Totally awesome car and one of the best to come from Ferrari.
I really like the way they leave the camera in the back to watch the driving.
back in the f40 days people though the same and bang here we are with a 458
about the battey of this car... how heavy is it? do you have to charge it like a hybrid car??
just curious...

With the paddle shifters, does it still have the standard foot clutch?
I LOVE his narration on the second part of the video.
