+Leon Henry I'm saving up for my first car. Please don't hate it, it's a Honda. But one day, maybe one day I can afford one of these things if I don't fuck-up my life. :)) I'll keep everybody posted. :))
+Leon Henry *Sell the kids and move in with mum and dad.* I'm no Miss Cleo, but in ten years I'd wager the 458 Speciale is significantly more expensive than it is today. It's the last of the naturally-aspirated mid-engined Ferraris, and it has essentially the same power-to-weight ratio as the 488 GTB (each horse carries just three more _ounces_).
I've been privileged enough to have driven a speciale. It's incredible. The gearbox is absolutely unbelievable, it changes down the box before you've even thought about it. Ferrari for me are on another level at the minute. The naysayers will always disagree but as much of a cliche as it is, I've never known any other car go from complete every day pussy cat to absolute weapon at the flick of a paddle. Enzo would have been proud!!
+Benjamin Richley There are many cars that do it but far above the Speciale price range, the Paganis carry on that DNA, and the Mclarens are trying their best as well. But I understand your statement.
EVO, you just nailed it by using the standard 458 and the 430 Stradale as reference. This has to be the most professional review I have ever seen on RUclips ever. Keep this up... please and you will surpass everyone. Big thumbs up! And Jethro, you're more open now and are showing character! Good stuff!
+Peter Griffis Steve is great and so is Jethro (: those two are up there with Chris...Harry seems like a nice bloke but just makes me sleepy listening to him
Jethro Bovingdon is the ONLY guy I would put on par with Chris Harris in terms of delivering a detailed video that makes us - viewers - virtually drive the cars! Respect! And keep up the good work Evo!
Eric Zhu always. I tried to love the 488 but the exhaust note is terrible compared to the 458. Even the 488 Pista has a worse exhaust than the standard 458
There is a 458 Speciale owner in my town (20k inhabitants). And what can I say... This car is an absolute beast! It's so monstrous and beautiful at the same time. Combined with the music that comes out of the exhaust pipes, it almost gives you an orgasm every time it drives by. Wow, just wow!
Well done EVO! What is the best and the most unique part of this test is the short driving clip without talking or music ... you´ve done the same with the GT3 clip in the car of the year and that is really what I think is the best of the best. I personally needs more of those driving clips because its shows the character and the atmosphere of driving more than anyone can talk.. brilliant
There are not many other cars that you can throw into a corner so effortlessly like Jethro did and come out on top of everything. Ferrari continues to set the benchmark in super cars. Forza Italia!!!!!
Simply amazing footage and savvy journalism. Please upload raw and uncut footage of the entire run up the hill from the drivers door/window cam. That view brings the realization of driving the car on limit to life and is also very educational. Please give us that footage no matter if its an hour long. Thanks for the upload, brilliant as usual EVO.
Jethro your reviews just get better and better. Tremendous driving and great assessment. You really make me want to be there! Just to be a passenger on that road might be one of the greatest automotive experiences ever!
This is still one of the better car films to this day All car films should look somewhat like this if they want to be the best Way to go Evo and also way to go deathrow
It's clear why Ferrari is the winner. While Mclaren chases efficiency in numbers and wind tunnel and GT3 has to resort to AWS to make the car work (and that awful rear wing) , none of them offer the ultimate joy of play and control that the Ferrari has. And we have not even mentioned the beauty and sound of it. And it all continues to the next step where Laferrari is a clear nr 1. I know it's all personal opinions but I really try to be objective :)
opmike343 Sorry, meant AWS. It steers on all wheels. I have no time in any of them but like most things in the world we can make an educated guess on which one is better. I've driven and sat in both type of car but older models. I've seen some of these testers compare them and the Ferrari is a bit better (for example in Autocar). The thing is that in the end, the Ferrari is more desirable. Period. You can have fun with the Porsche on track and it could be amazing there but it's no beauty. As soon as you park it next to the Ferrari it loses. No matter what. Just like parking a Porsche turbo next to a 458. Ferrari is simply more desirable by the vast majority.
***** I do understand the appeal of it but somewhere along the way Mclaren lost the focus and went to much for the control of the car in not such a good way. If you had the money to buy a Mclaren you probably have another car for the soothing drives. How many buy one of these cars as a daily driver? Even if it's possible? Almost nobody. If Mclaren's goal was what you say then why have they since it lost to 458 tried to make it drive more like a 458 and be engaging?
***** You are like some others are stuck in the idea about 70:s Ferraris being unreliable and that it's the same today. It's not like that anymore. Times have changed. Ferrari makes some of the best sports cars today and the line of buyers, despite the prices, conforms that.
that awful rear wing it's true downforce, not marketing BS, you will see it on any 458 race car lol. also did anybody else noticed how much the car was struggling to put the power down on each corner exit? was it because he set everything off or just not enough grip?
Evo, please please please include more 'driver's eye view' footage just like @ 9:02.. Put us behind the wheel with Jethro, let us experience what he is when his narration is interrupted by whatever interrupted it! He is obviously a very talented driver, we want to see that from his point of view, not just a cockpit view..
EVO, please release spare footage from the point of view of the driver (cirka 09:00) and post it on here. I think there are a few of us that would like to watch minutes on end from that perspective with just engine sound. Thank you.
7:06 , 7:28 , 8:03 , 8:32 , 8:41 , and OMG 9:25 ! *THIS IS THE ONLY SUPERCAR I truly had my breathe taken away JUST WATCHING IT TAKE CORNERS!* I mean it TRULY stands out just by watching it handle, I love how it has a very controlled oversteer, and you can just tell it's *ripping with all it's might towards where your pointing it!* ~It's a true DRIVER's supercar, and the only one I think is actually WORTH the price, that's why *IT WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE.*
Is anybody else as pumped about the 458 as I am? I know there is, but I feel more caps lock is needed for how epic this vehicle it is. *It's modeled and balanced like a freakin' F1 CAR* , however it ENCOURAGES you to DRIFT (controlled-ly), it takes you past that point of maximum grip, and turns you sideways to viciously CLAW toward the apex your pointing at, it's my idea of the perfect handling vehicle. Most won't let you slip nowadays.
i think people should stop over commenting about journalists/video quality/stuff. it is very annoying to see people saying: "chris harris this" "chris harris that" "amazing piece of work" etc and don't say a word about the car... i mean, compliments are good, but don't overwhelm the whole comment section of the video with them
I’ll never be rich. But if I was, I’d have this car in a heartbeat. Even though they now cost £600,000. The last naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari will likely ever make. Fair enough. I’d pay it twice for this absolute masterpiece of a car.
Yep. You don't need more power than that, and you give up so much to get that extra power you don't need. You can convince yourself the 488 sounds good until you go back and watch one of these Speciale videos. I just hope I get rich in time to get a GT3 or Performante or Speciale before I croak. Sadly it ain't likely to happen. I took my shot and fell short and there's not enough time left to risk taking another and potentially pissing away what time I have left.
People who say Ferrari is trash because you can’t modify it well that’s not what Ferrari is for Ferrari is something special another breed of speed cornering ability I can’t wait to drive a Ferrari doesn’t matter what one they are all special but the 458 with its naturally aspirated V8 engine is just mesmerising and I can’t get enough of it, although we are at turbo charging stages with the 488 and 488 pista the 458 speciale is a lot more special yes okay it might not be the most powerful Ferrari V8 but it certainly is the last of the true V8 breed adding stuff like superchargers and turbos is wrong with a naturally aspirated V8 you just can not go wrong I don’t care how old the car gets it will always be my dream car
Jethro is obviously a driving god and a man who knows his stuff, yet also a pretty good car journalist and a showman. Still I'd like to see some REAL excitement and opinions in addition to this "Auto Express" style of good mood gigling. Try to review the cars to us like you do it to your colleagues and close friends. Thanks anyways for this great video!
I’ve been tossing up between mclarens Lamborghinis and the 812 Ferrari but again this car just proves to be the one I’d go for haven’t heard anything bad about a 458 and as top gear says the 458 Italia is all the sports car you need and then the speciale being better I’d take this as a dream car and I’d have it anyday over a turbo charged Ferrari 488 even though the 488 is better to drive nothing beats the howling naturally aspirated 9000 RPM reving engine
I’m a ER trauma doctor and our chief of medicine has a Speciale. And he actually drives it! I have a few toys but no super cars. I like building things from the ground up. 71 nova with a giant 702ci monster of a motor, I have a s2000 with a billet k20 block and an 88mm turbo making 779hp at the wheels. I have a bagged GTR that I use for my daily, just basic bolt ons and a tune but it’s got a custom carbon fiber widebody 1 of 1 in the world. Then if I wanna go fast I have a 2023 hayabusa with the ecu unlocked and tuned. Tell you what tho, that v12 from the Ferrari that my boss has, man it sounds brutally insane and I’m so in love with it
I'm a life-long Porsche guy, but if I could own and drive one car in the world right now, this would be it. It's everything you could ever want. In a world obsessed with turbos in most new models, this car - just like the GT3 - shows that nothing replaces a great N/A engine.
Porsche GT3 and 458 Speciale move game on completly new level of madnes(like they should),this is first real Ferrari after f40,9500rpm!,CR 14:1,weight under 1400kg,shift with unbelivable speed, and looks great... i cant wait for 991 GT3 RS too
Jethro, u pulled it off with this one… One of the best, if not the best review I have seen in years - probably ever - … Absolutely amazing !!! Only critic is maybe that you could have shown lap times of the 458 and 430 Scud in Blyton Park, but other than that and esüecially because the rest of the video is soooo good -> I just can't really be critical about it :) Very well done indeed, the new benchmark for me, hope u keep it up :) … and the 458 Speciale seems just superb, can't wait to drive one… BTW: Would have been also nice to have seen how you rank the new GT3 compared to these 3 cars :)… Next years eCotY will be such a challenge to judge -> 458 Speciale, 991 GT3 RS, Nismo GT-R, McLaren P1 and 918 Spyder et cetera…
This video review nailed it. I was itching to see someone compare the Speciale to 1. 458 Italia, the car it's based on, and 2. 430 Scuderia, the car it "replaces". Fantastic video
i love how Jethro is absolutely ragging the shit out of the car while talking to the camera. looks like he's loving it. makes a nice change from driving slowly and talking then cutting to outdoor shots.
I love this car! Every car Ferrari makes is brilliant these days, its such a shame that Ferrari has become so cold and corporate now, there may be people who work with and build the cars who actually give a damn about the legacy that Enzo Ferrari gave the company, but now its full of men in suits who don't even like cars - some of them that is, this is in my experiences anyhow.
What about the fact that Ferrari customer cars will perform nowhere near as well as the press cars such as the one in this video? Ferrari has also become quite unscrupulous in that sense.
He is a brilliant driver to be fair
+1207s Eason I'm a car geek lol
That was nice of you to say. I like this dude too. He seems sincere/real and not arrogant/snobby.
+Kings mario
He's a great editor and communicator. Thank Dickie Meaden for salvaging his career.
I'm saving up for my 458. Should have the cash in about 10 years. I'll keep everybody posted
+Leon Henry I'm saving up for my first car. Please don't hate it, it's a Honda. But one day, maybe one day I can afford one of these things if I don't fuck-up my life. :)) I'll keep everybody posted. :))
Engr.Pet
Nothing wrong with a Honda dude. I used to have one
+Leon Henry mate. i love your ambition. i really really hope in 10 years you have your 458.
just put your mind to it!
+Leon Henry

This guy is the only one on par with Chris harris
Antonio Dias Dude sounded so much like Harris i had to check who it was during the intro
Nobody is on par with Chris. Fanboy? Yes. Regardless Jethro is the only other person I'd watch after Chris.
Antonio Dias Jethro drives a performance car like a performance car. Harris turns every review of a performance car into a driftfest
+Antonio Dias Steve Sutcliffe and Harry Metcalfe?
+Peter Griffis Steve is great and so is Jethro (: those two are up there with Chris...Harry seems like a nice bloke but just makes me sleepy listening to him
Serious set of balls to drive like that on road
Jethro Bovingdon really is a top reviewer, more of this guy!
I love how this guy explains everything in complete details and I love how his enthusiasm brings smile to us.
Yes! Cudos to Jethro!
I'm back again. Best car review ever
The speciale is maybe the best car ever produced
i love how he speaks so casually while taming that horse
He's not taming any race times. He's drifting and fucking around like most posers.
I'm your child. Glad you are taking care of me.
You should go see him in a conference..he loves to speak a lot and in a conference you rarely hear sounds of cars as in that video.
Old Evo days with Jethro driving like a maniac. Love it!
Jethro Bovingdon is the ONLY guy I would put on par with Chris Harris in terms of delivering a detailed video that makes us - viewers - virtually drive the cars! Respect! And keep up the good work Evo!
Add Henry Catchpole to that
458 speciale over 488 all day
N/A over turbo all day
Eric Zhu always. I tried to love the 488 but the exhaust note is terrible compared to the 458. Even the 488 Pista has a worse exhaust than the standard 458
Wrong!
Wow he has some skills behind the wheel. Genuinely impressive.
amazing drifts on the public road inside the guide rails - looked very close.
Yes, the driver is very good. But like i sais in another comment, it's more Show than Go...
It makes me very happy that you drove that Speciale the way you did.
Looking back on this now in 2020, this is probably the most rowdy and bonkers road review ever. Mega.
Jethro is the proof that knowledge can be interesting and entertaining as well! An excellent presenter! All Petrolheads thumbs up!
I come back to this video every time I want a laugh. The way he is absolutely ringing the snot out of this thing while casually talking is hilarious.
I knew this was going to be huge but this could just be the best car in history right next to the F40. Very impressive!
Ferrari themselves have said that this car is more fun to drive than an F40, so it must be next in line haha
Well if they claim it, it must be true. I would kill to own that car :D
Well done EVO! What is the best and the most unique part of this test is the short driving clip without talking or music ... you´ve done the same with the GT3 clip in the car of the year and that is really what I think is the best of the best. evo's best video ever, hands down

Maybe the greatest car ever. Seriously. Absolute motoring Nirvana.
Jethro is the right mix between facts and entertainment... And he can really drive!
Simply amazing footage and savvy journalism. Please upload raw and uncut footage of the entire run up the hill from the drivers door/window cam. That view brings the realization of driving the car on limit to life and is also very educational. Please give us that footage no matter if its an hour long. I completely agree, can you show more of the drivers door/window cam view?
Jethro your reviews just get better and better. Tremendous driving and great assessment. You really make me want to be there! Just to be a passenger on that road might be one of the greatest automotive experiences ever!
I couldn't stop smiling watching this whole vid!
The way it dances around the raod 😍. No boring Mclaren can ever do that
Ahmed Farhan - exactly. They are just far too clinical. They don’t get it.
This is still one of the better car films to this day
All car films should look somewhat like this if they want to be the best
Way to go Evo and also way to go deathrow
This and an SLS black series please..

Umm, the GT3 is rear wheel drive, not AWD. Also, since you speak of objectivity, how much seat time do you have in these vehicles?
opmike343

The 458 speciale is my dream car
I agree and still!
@@eljefe797
Ferrari is my favorite supercar brand. But the McLaren 765LT is my favorite supercar.
Id have a 488 for weekends and road trips. And a 458 Speciale for track days and special occasions.
and f12 for my bitch
F12 the boss!
The Ferrari 458 speciale is a very special car couldn’t agree less and there is no way of denying it it’s my dream car
A 458, a 430 Scuderia, AND a 458 Speciale huh? Don't take this the wrong way, but I hate you :|
Nice video man, keep up the good work :)
Yes I love those views!!
This guy should be seriously be a racer!
That driving!
Akash Dsouza - He is. At least part time. He’s a phenomenal driver.
No tyres were harmed during the filming of this video.
EVO, please release spare footage from the point of view of the driver (cirka 09:00) and post it on here. I think there are a few of us that would like to watch minutes on end from that perspective with just engine sound. Thank you.
I mean - that engine note. Just absolutely incredible.
Oh my, this guy can drive....brave to drift that car like this
What an incredible video! Driven a standard 458 but the speciale is my dream car
Jethro does the best reviews in EVO
7:06 , 7:28 , 8:03 , 8:32 , 8:41 , and OMG 9:25 !
*THIS IS THE ONLY SUPERCAR I truly had my breathe taken away JUST WATCHING IT TAKE CORNERS!* I mean it TRULY stands out just by watching it handle, I love how it has a very controlled oversteer, and you can just tell it's *ripping with all it's might towards where your pointing it!*
~It's a true DRIVER's supercar, and the only one I think is actually WORTH the price, that's why *IT WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE.*
You shag cars
Jethro nailing it as usual....always a pleasure
i think people should stop over commenting about journalists/video quality/stuff. it is very annoying to see people saying: "chris harris this" "chris harris that" "amazing piece of work" etc and don't say a word about the car... i mean, compliments are good, but don't overwhelm the whole comment section of the video with them

The 458 italia is just gorgeous
This dude can DRIVE. Holy shit

Jethro is obviously a driving god and a man who knows his stuff, yet also a pretty good car journalist and a showman. Try to review the cars to us like you do it to your colleagues and close friends. Thanks anyways for this great video!
This car is truly special
Ferrari makes art.
I think it will beat a Mclaren mo4-12c, damn what a fenomenal car!!! Love it
Here for the sound
360 Stradale is still my fave
The best :)
Shame they didn't put one in the test too.
How people can dislike this car?
Its a f*cking beauty.....
The 430 scud is perfect in blue
dat inside camera GOD DAMIT best thing ive ever seen
Ferrari should of just kept making the V8 larger , this sounds miles better than the 488
Great job! One of the best review i ever seen!!
best driving ive seen Mr. Bovingdon do, Tiff and Chris would be proud...
This is the review I was waiting for!! Amazing driving and amazing car! Thx!
That's one of the best drivers I've ever seen, he's pretty good.
reviews without music are the best, keep up the good work EVO mag, definitely a top 10 channel on youtube com for car enthusiasts
great driver. and car reviewer😊😊👍👍👍👍
Jethro is starting to really grow on me as a reviewer. Great video!
Likewise. I think it was the review of the Huayra that changed my opinion of him.
My god! Doesn't anyone ntice his driving skills? the way he drove that Ferrari in a public road, that narrow, is just unbelievably scary.
More of that camera angle around the 9:00 mark! Amazing!
I did a test drive on a 458 special and yes it was amazing as described & utterly brilliant! A must get as an upgrade to my 458 italia!
Good job EVO and Jethro, i enjoy it! The car looks and sound amazing!
this guy knows how to push the cars he reviews pretty talented
Brilliant review and a just as brilliant machine!
Forza Ferrari!
That was a properly good review. That in car footage is GREAT
the best test driver i ever seen! you are fantastic man!
the road test portion of this test is hilarious. who talks to the camera while teararsing around the mountains like that? brilliant!
Then if I wanna go fast I have a 2023 hayabusa with the ecu unlocked and tuned. Tell you what tho, that v12 from the Ferrari that my boss has, man it sounds brutally insane and I’m so in love with it
good review but it does get boring when you let the tail swing out on every corner
This is my favourite car ever. Simple.
fantastic review, really enjoyed it!
Amazing that he can talk while driving like that!
I'm a life-long Porsche guy, but if I could own and drive one car in the world right now, this would be it. It's everything you could ever want. In a world obsessed with turbos in most new models, this car - just like the GT3 - shows that nothing replaces a great N/A engine.

i cant wait for 991 GT3 RS too
Love the way your man there calmly talks through the car , whilst kicking the shit out of it !
Jethro, u pulled it off with this one… One of the best, if not the best review I have seen in years - probably ever - … Absolutely amazing !!!
Only critic is maybe that you could have shown lap times of the 458 and 430 Scud in Blyton Park, but other than that and esüecially because the rest of the video is soooo good -> I just can't really be critical about it :)
Very well done indeed, the new benchmark for me, hope u keep it up :) … and the 458 Speciale seems just superb, can't wait to drive one…
BTW: Would have been also nice to have seen how you rank the new GT3 compared to these 3 cars :)…
Next years eCotY will be such a challenge to judge -> 458 Speciale, 991 GT3 RS, Nismo GT-R, McLaren P1 and 918 Spyder et cetera…
man, I love this guy's driving!
This video review nailed it. I was itching to see someone compare the Speciale to 1. 458 Italia, the car it's based on, and 2. 430 Scuderia, the car it "replaces".
Fantastic video
Once again, im back watching this video. Love it so much.
this video was unreal. the go pro shots were class.
Get a comparison between the 911 GT3 and the Speciale now. Or just wait for the GT3 RS or GT2 and then do it ;)
YES YES YES
The Ferrari will demolish the Porsche!
stefan torozov no it won't.....they been going at it for 3 decades
stefan torozov I doubt it. The old GT3 RS outed the standard 458. The 991 models will do just as good if not better.
In what way ????You are talking nonsense.
I'd still go with the 430 Scuderia, because of the mature character it has but this 458 Speciale is just brilliant. Forza Ferrari
behind the wheel shot was fantastic - more shots like that please!
I can never crank the volume high enough as I wish
i love how Jethro is absolutely ragging the shit out of the car while talking to the camera. looks like he's loving it. makes a nice change from driving slowly and talking then cutting to outdoor shots.
This was Brilliant EVO, very good driving by Jethro. I would have liked to see some more details of the car, but I really enjoyed it.
