Close to 600 VR30s tuned with (so far) zero tuning related failures, less than 5 turbo failures, and less than 10 engine failures total. I have a private group chat and talk to all of my customers daily. Providing proper care, education on care and the cars themselves, and making sure customers realize these aren't race cars that can be beat on 24/7 really goes a long way in keeping them together.
Literally searching in the internet for this response. Can it be a good daily, light bolt ons and a tune and not blow up? Now I know who I’m going to for a tune if I buy one. Used for $15-20k they seem like a a great deal now and I need something 350-400+ whp.
2017 q50rs been tuned for three years. I got the car tuned at 21k miles. I’m up to 72k; never has the car thrown a belt or check engine light, and I make 472whp
Great video. I’m getting back into the tuning scene after a decade break. Got married, had kids, etc. I picked up a used 2018 Q50 3.0t Premium with 38k miles in very clean condition, and I’m looking at reaching 400rwhp. Just a fun and decently reliable “sport dad car”. Your honesty about the potential problems, and your viewpoint with no BS approach is great. A lot has changed in the tuning scene, and I’m having to relearn a decent amount. Keep up the great vids!
I personally do believe it comes down to driver habits. If you beat on it and then just turn it off, that's bad. High oil pressure and then you just the car off, that oil sits in the turbo and burns. You did hit the nail on the head, turbo cars are faster but turbos are just another component that fails over time. NA cars just take abuse better, because so long as the motor is solid, the power is there. NA cars are never really doing anything more than increasing ignition timing, increasing fuel pulse width, etc. You're also dead on with the B58 and RS3, AMG, etc, those cars cost like 70k, 80k, 90k, 100k for a reason. They put into engineering for performance more than Infiniti does. You CAN modify ANY car to be reliable at 1000 whp but inevitably you either break something or end up paying just as much. I come from Subarus to VQs, the WRX and STi are basically in the same boat as you guys. Short of paying 15k for a billet block and going 20, 30, 40k in a subaru build, you're never hitting 900 whp reliably. It just don't work that way. You VR30 guys are a little closer than Subies are but its a lofty goal. Imo Take your downpipe, heat exchanger, exhaust, tune and just be happy at your 400-475 whp Thats more than an F80 M3 or 392 makes.
Thanks for the info Boost. I just got a 2018 q50 luxe and already having coolant lost issues with 69k miles. I’m returning it for a 2018 q50 red sport. Hopefully all goes well 🤞🏼
Love my 21 Infiniti q50 awd redsport. Just hit 10k miles. Build so far is heat exchanger, fender coolant expansion, dry drop in filters, 3” CBE, 3” FDP, front & rear sway bar, oil catch can and racebox tune. Looking to go E30 with vrx70 turbos as my complete build. Car is being babied at the moment coz it’s 110 degrees where I’m at and I don’t daily drive this car. As long as you keep up with maintenance and don’t beat on it, it will last a long time.
@@m.a.4446 the Heat exchanger install was pretty straight forward, as long as you have the hose clamps and bleed your system correctly or if you purchase a airlift. I had to do both coz the fender expansion tank was lower than my reservoir so I had to use the air lift and bleed it.
If I had a choice I would say yes only if you get extended warranty. When I bough my Q50 2014 at 40k miles back in 2020 the coolant system had to be fixed in month in. No mods added at that time. It was covered though extended warranty but the price for any of the small problems is actually not costly. Why because the parts share with other same cars. Would I buy it again, actually yes. It’s smooth handling, and ultra soft seating. Only draw back is that if your over 6 foot tall you will not have space for ppl in the back seats.
I just bought a blue redsport for 17 and some change here in TX and I love it. stock I smoked a 5.0 6spd with intake and exhaust from a roll and a dig so the RS isn't bad for what it is
2018 Q50 Sport 60K no issues. AMS tuned since 20K. And I use 0W-20 which I will continue to use, all them guys in the group saying 5w-30 or 5w-40. Na I’m good with my 0w-20😎
I use nothing but Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W20 in my 2018 Q50 Red Sport. Quicker the oil get to the turbos, the better. I however, had the dreaded porous block at 82000km. Had an engine block replacement and 2 new turbos, under warranty.
🤦🏽♂️ the turbos heat up wayyy too much which causes the low viscosity 0w-20 oil to thin and lose its lubricating properties. Your motor will not last as long as it should because you are cheaping out. And especially with ams, they turn up the boost to 21-23 psi which causes too much heat and back pressure. Your q will suffer because of your negligence.
@DanielSmith-ks2zv Definitely not because of the oil choice. It's running good now, but I have doubts on keeping the car. I'd hate to have this happen again and have to pay out of pocket.
21 Q50 luxe I got it with 19k miles on it I use 5w30 full synthetic oil because of the extremely hot weather here in Houston and had no issues with my car it now has 38k miles on it and still drives like a champ but I do have a daily which I'm working on now otherwise no issues with my Vr30 I love and going to build it and keep it
