This car wasn’t meant to be a powerhouse. It just CAN be a powerhouse. That’s why you have to do supporting mods and do your maintenance slightly more than normal.
Oil change every 3,000.. 4qt Pennzoil 5w30 Full synthetic &1qt Lucas oil, always put 93 Premium gas from shells if you can.. transmission filter will need to be replaced every 30,000 or 50,000 and rear differential.. Radiator fluid in your Q50 every 24,000 to 36,000 miles, or every 24 to 36 months.. If you follow the regular maintenance book in your car should last pretty long time..
I have a 2014 Q50 with the 3.7 Awd. 140k. I drive a lot. Oil changes every 4k and I have not had one thing go wrong with the car until just the other day I had my left rear ABS speed sensor go bad. Other than that, it's been a great reliable car. Wrapped roof black and some 20's. Besides that I didn't do anything.
I agree totally with you on reliability related to driving style, maintenance, etc. I worked with a luxury car mfg for several years, made relationships with people in other brands, and most cars coming in broken for lower mileage were raced - most of them were poorly cared for / maintained too. Prime example, I have a friend who worked with Subaru - WRX failures were like 90%+ aggressive driving, heavily modded, and denied warranty claim as a result.
I know this video old but i just purchased my first car . 2019 Q60 AWD 49k mi so i appreciate this vid a lot. Im looking to mod and tune it just over stock RS but need it to remain reliable which shouldnt be an issue with proper maintenance . Thanks again!
I religiously change my oil every 2500 to 3000 miles Valvoline VR1 5w30 in MIami. Always checking coolant and soon need to recheck my spark plugs. Also transmission I change it every 15k miles and differential fluid front and rear. Finally I have changed my driving style no longer beat on it as often. Drive it like a grandpa most of the time.
Valvoline VR-1 is a racing oil with high amount zinc additive and is not recommended for use in cars with catalytic converters (high zinc content can damage the catalytic converter s). Just stick with a quality synthetic from Mobil-1, Castrol, Amsoil, etc.
I have a maxima and I got into the habit of draining and refilling the radiator in my car and bike once a year. antifreeze has a lubricant in it for the water pump bearings. when that coolant breaks down over time it leads to water pump failure. my maxima has 327,000 miles and I never had any cooling system issues. on a turbo car the coolant breaks down faster since it flows through the super hot turbo. I also change the fluid in my transmission once a year, 6 speed manual. on a automatic car a once a year drain and fill on the transmission would be enough. as for oil I run 5w-40 Shell Rotella T6 in everything, even my CBR1000RR.. and never go over 5,000 miles on an oil change. fuel builds up in the oil and can lead to premature oil leaks. quaker state makes a 0w-40 which is better for colder climates...
If you bought a q60 used change all the fluids I did front rear diff, atf fluid, engine oil, and coolant flush will happen when I get my ams heat exchanger installed so I hope I’m doing a good job 😅
Replaced one motor at 19k miles b/c the oil was low and I didn't know to check the oil every 1000 miles. Now I'm currently replacing my 2nd engine at 40k miles b/c I spun a bearing due to a turbo consuming oil. I was advised that the potential issue is that I have a Borla straight pipe catless system (sounds amazing) and the factory turbos can't keep up so I either need to change the exhaust or get more powerful turbos. Since I already have a bunch of other supporting mods like alpha cooling, blowoff valves, etc I'm going with Pure Stage 2's and I'm going to try to tone down my driving b/c I know that doesn't help. He's also installing a custom oil pan that they CNC themselves which holds an extra quart and a half. Please God let this motor hold up b/c this is getting expensive, but good God the car is fun!

I have a 2016 Q50 RS AWD with 52,000 miles. No modifications (as in truly zero--not even cosmetic), no racing/track days, never driven faster than 85 mph, maintenance as directed. It's in the shop now with coolant infiltrating the oil, bad head gasket, turbo leaking oil. I took it in because I was having to add coolant more frequently than I thought was normal. It seemed to be running okay despite the issues I know how it had. The warranty company is sending inspector after inspector and asking for more and more tests to try to isolate what went wrong. It's pretty frustrating given the mileage. This isn't a "buyer beware" comment--it seems like I was just extremely unlucky with this one.
Same thing happened to me. Discovered the coolant in the reservoir gone and kept topping off, to no end. Took it in to Infiniti, had progressive checks done, until they finally said I was approved for a new long block and 2 new turbo's. Just got my Q50 back last month. I have a 2018 Red Sport, I am the 2nd owner and only had 80000 km at the time. Porous engine block defect is the issue. Earlier years are the main one's affected.

The serpentine belt should be changed when you accelerate and it starts to squeal. It’s easy to change by yourself. It cost me 76$ from z1 motorsports and you need a 3/4 ratchet that’s around 2-3 feet long, Easy to replace took me 15 minutes.
Also check coolant levels, and oil level every 3weeks to a month. It isn’t hard. Also give you car the Italian tune up atleast every 3 months. These cars produce a lot of carbon deposits, and the Italian tune up clears it up. The Italian tune up is just accelerating hard.
