This is the very first Kentucky Derby I ever saw. I was 10 years old and at my friend's house, and her dad was watching the race. I had always loved horses, but I knew nothing about racing. But watching this race, seeing this huge longshot come from behind to win it all, it made me fall in love with this sport. Ti this day, Giacomo remains one of my favorite racehorses. He's the one who inspired my love in racing.
Well, you should watch what this beautiful little horse named Afleet Alex did to the fields after this race. "Afleet Alex just passed Giacomo like he was standing STILL! Afleet Alex opening up with a TREMENDOUS BURST OF ENERGY!" FUCKING EPIC.
No, it doesn't. I believe Giacomo won like one more graded stakes win not even grade 1. Idk if he even ran allowances His sire and dam aren't going to be remembered for producing good foals. Curlin's sire Smart Strike is. Rags to Riches's sire and dam are remembered. Giacomo wasn't anything. He never was. Afleet Alex would have won had he not had a bad trip in the Derby and been pinned on the rail. He was just getting started on running when they ran out of ground. That's what I'm talking about.
i had giacomo in this race mike smith on tv friday says in santa anita derby giacomo had no pace to run at...we all knew this derby would have a ton....45 half 109 6 fur...beautiful 50-1 cone back

@lacouerfairy That is the former Churchill Downs announcer, Luke Kruytbosch, who passed away in 2008. You need to understand that there is a difference between calling for TV and calling for the track. When you call for the track you need to describe the action for the people at the track and watching via simulcast. There's no need to go all mental like the TV calls you've heard. In fact, 99 percent of the people who are listening to don't care what you sound like so long as you're accurate.

I have all kinds of pets. I love animals of all sorts. This here was my favorite race horse. Afleet Alex. I named my Basenji after him. I named my Tortoise after Giacomo. :) I love Giacomo! But, Afleet Alex, he's something special.
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Curlin's owners had extremely high hopes for him when he broke his debut. They thought he'd win the Derby after winning his next races. They thought he was going to be very good, they just didn't know he'd be on top of the world and the greatest horse in the past decade. And Giacomo wasn't even a good horse. He raced far beyond he was supposed too. Afleet Alex should have won. He had the class and not only that, but he would have won the Triple Crown. I hate when longshots win.

This race always makes me so mad - Alex should have won the Triple Crown.

I find it hard to believe this is the official Kentucky Derby channel, the video quality of this race is atrocious.

Way to go Giacomo.
It is nice to see a 50-1 longshot win .... screw the favorites!
@Teuflesburglover23 Don't forget about the 73/1 in 2nd place!
