Was there with 2 friends! What a finish! I miss Dave Johnson’s “ And down the stretch they come” call! To me it was a huge part of the Kentucky Derby. When the network television idiots decided to change coverage it was a sad day to know that Dave Johnson wasn’t calling the Kentucky Derby anymore. It was a true piece of americana, Thanks for all your great calls Dave.
Strike the Gold passed away earlier today at the age of 23. He was standing at stud in Turkey. He was the oldest living Derby winner. And down the stretch he comes!
This was my first and only Derby I went and I bet on Strike the Gold as a winner. As you can see this horse ran last at the beginning but pull though to become a winner. It was really nice to see that I pick the right hose!
Christopher Wiley Antley (1966-2000) set two records that, I think, no other jockey has equalled or surpassed yet: In 1987 he became the first rider to win 9 races in a single day and in 1989 he won at least one race a day for 64 straight days
I can remember this race like it was yesterday! But that's what happens when you had the winner!!! Strike The Gold was nowhere to be found early then came roaring up on the far outside, I was flipping out!!! The Ant Man (RIP) did it! I may be wrong but I believe Strike The Gold is the oldest Kentucky Derby winner still living.

“The most exciting 2 Minutes sports” = The KENTUCKY DERBY ! On a sidenote, personally, it’s a little less exciting now that Dave Johnson does not call the race! Shame on whoever made that decision!
Huh....Barbaro's "uncle" was in that race---late closing Green Alligator. Watched this just b/c I know I wrote a poem about it when I was in high school...all I could remember was the last couplet "And with one last move, a move so bold/the Derby winner was Strike the Gold". Couldn't remember WHY I thought it was a bold move.
