I spent my childhood and youth visiting Long Kesh. No one ever called it the Maze. Even on the brightest of days, it still maintained that drab depressive haunting grey hues.
Ironically, the best films on the Irish conflict were directed by English men.
Rest in peace Harry and Mark. UTP

I only knew it as Long Kesh concentration camp. Or the Kesh also. I do not recall anyone calling it The Maze, only the news, and then it was also The H blocks. Just as it is the six counties.

@@christinehoare9506 get a grip!! lets be truthful here. the British government decided to keep northern Ireland British as the majority wanted it to be so. the south of Ireland has NO intentions of ever taking it back. can you imagine the cost to them if they did. so wind your neck in and get you facts straight before spouting rubbish. Plus the average person on the mainland doesn't give a damn if it goes back to the south. I bet if the uk government said tomorrow that the north could be amalgamated back into the south they'd be the ones saying no.

Why all the violence? Seems to me Ireland got screwed by both the Catholic Church determined to keep it backward and make deals with the English on its behalf regarding land. Maybe I am wrong?

my last comment on this the 2 guys in the yard talking about breaking out. "...we need to prove to the world we still have a pulse?" deep breath , his mate (pronounced in these films as 'Mayte') and every other actor from Belfast Town (they pronounce it 'Toyne') gets in closer and says " whats on your mind, you dont mean an escape surely? (spoken in a dramatic sudden change to a deep tone). This isnt realistic or dramatic its forced and tacky as a Belfast person my advice is focus on the amazing story, not the accents of poshlads acting like lads. Dont force it. This story hasnt been done right yet in movie form.

why does every single sentence have to be spoken so dramatically? its not real, it annoys me. "we can show the world ( emphasis on 'the world') that we can do (....deep breath....) this...its not real.
a simple sentence like "maybe we can do this".... becomes (whispered voice, spoken like the actor has just jumped off a treadmill, "maybe....(looks down.... deep breath , then pauses..."maybe......"then lifts head to make eye contact...."maybe we can do this"..... gazes off to the ceiling....(end of scene).

An Economic Union, free movement of goods, services, people, served us well. Capital grants for schools, hospitals, roads. Grants for SME'S. The fact that you ask this question belies your obvious lack of knowledge or understanding. A fool would leave such an union. Hi UK!!
