The Prototech Warship also has a self destruct mechanic. It is an aggressive way to design encounters, but the logic is probably that you can always end up back at base and just rebuild. For such fancy blocks, there needs to be a risk of failure, and the solution can't always be to bring a heavy armor gun brick
just like the old Space Pirates ships on SE older days (or maybe still?), they also have warhead self destruct if you tried to take control of the ship and the mechanism is a simple thruster shooting at the warhead so soon after you take control and dampeners are active (the ship goes linear, not erratic like today's AI ships) then boom!

The question I have now is how are planetary encounters by comparison? Are they worth doing? Can they give blocks or frames? Do they even warrant an in depth guide or are there too many too simple and only worth an overview?
i found a SPRT stronghold that had an assault cannon turret, gatling turret and interior turret guarding it and inside was a prototech Frame, which is pretty nice. Overall it seems like most planetary encounters can have prototech components, just no blocks, but they are also FAR easier to deal with in my experience. then again, i havent found many space pirate outposts yet, so maybe theres more rare ones that will kick your ass but have some nice loot in 'em
I was hoping this video would tell me how to claim the prototech blocks. I had an issue when I took out a prototech station and we found a prototech refinery, we grabbed it with a magnetic plate on our ship but we could not access the refinery, it was denied. Ground it down until all the computers were removed, welded it back up, -still- denied, -still- got the message that it was an unclaimed block and would despawn in X amount of time. Ended up grinding it down again and accidentally removed one of the parts that was destroyed on grinding, so it became inoperable and we decided to just scrap the whole game. So question, why wasn't it claimed when we grinded out the computers and added them back in? I thought that's how you captured parts, it worked for the container blocks on the station.
Are there any non-combat ways to get the new prototech stuff? Like using economy or completely abandoned encounters with no hostile blocks? I’m not a fan of combat…
What I see is salvage and pirating the prototech ship to add to the fleet hell the warship and transport ship looking might nice and with a bit of a refitting will be like the old ship back in 2014
This is all nice and dandy, but how do you actually stop the despawn timer? We got the biotech research, which takes quite a lot of time to get down to, hacked the drill and refinery, and while thinking about how to get the stuff out of there, believing "we hacked the blocks, they won't despawn", it all despawned. OUR prototech machinery included. These facilities must have some kind of central command block to hack, right? Also, why has Keen still not given us personal shields or armored suits? Getting oneshot from interior turrets makes the existence of medkits a bad joke...
You need to claim the NPC grid to stop the despawning. Once you can access the grid inventory/menu there is a red button on the top right that lets you do that. The simplest way is just to bring along the parts for a control panel so you dont need any existing access. However you have to do that for every seperate grid. So good luck getting there, clearing the defenses, taking out the self destruct if present and accessing all the grids within 2 hours. Enjoy the challenge :)
You also might need to keep the grid powered to prevent despawn by trash clear. And if combined with PCU limit, I go with either sticking a battery or reactor on it if the mats are around or you can do rotor remove head add small grid via terminal and place small grid battery/ reactor if you are limited by comps. Then you can grid everything around it away only keeping power + Prototech block and claim it for least PCU needed
You can safely grind down warheads that are counting down. It's just damage that will set them off. It's also possible that the self destruct sequences don't arm the warhead - rather, they might count down and then arm + detonate in one action sequence
Might be obvious but how do you actually get thw block? Do you grind it and get the parts? How would I install for example the prototech gyros into my ship?
You can grind them down but you will only get the prototech panels back. The rest will become prototech scrap. You have to grind the surrounding blocks and then grab the whole block, then merge block it onto your grid. OR if you get the prototech assembler, you can make the components to make prototech blocks. Or you can find the components.
Its all amazing but i feel like not even try to bother in my survival world. After a 300+ hours clocked on the game i cant design a proper offensive ship/drone or even a miner 😂. PVE in space engineers always seemed extremely hard, just a two hits and you are dead. I cannot possibly imagine dealing with all of these ships and turrets in survival. How do you guys do it? It just seems completely unreal
yeah some of these are pretty hard, the only one ive encountered so far was the warship unfortunately which is too hard for me at the moment, but some of these other encounters are a lot easier. for the hard encounters i plan on setting up a small fleet of drone fighters, maybe about 6-10, along with either some decoy drones, or a small cluster decoy missile that scatters a dozen or so decoys. its going to take a while to set up but it should be capable. id say an easier method would be to remote control a missile with a warhead from a safe distance, probably need some decoys to distract turrets and has a risk of blowing up prototech blocks though

Hey I play on PS5 and I came across one of these encounters, but there was a despawn timer, unfortunately I was not able to get anything from it due to literally EVERYTHING despawning, I have no clue how to increase to time of despawn. If anyone can help me out, it would be awesome
idk if its the same on PS5, im on PC. The despawn is 2 hours, but if you get access to the large/small grids that have prototech blocks on them you can click on a big red "Claim grid" button that will stop it from despawning at all, but only if you have enough PCU for it. Make sure to claim the small ones aswell, as they are a separate grid from the main vessel/outpost... i lost a small jumpdrive because of this mistake ;(
First signal is in space, surrounded by pirate drones. It was the facility but it was a wreck compared to this video. What a waste! Ship got destroyed just flying by lol quick load!
-enable global encounter on your world settings? also random encounter too -there's option slider for how much it will spawn at once, max 2 at once, 1 by default -loading into your world you'll find orange signal which usually few hundreds Km away at minimum, so jump drives are necessary -these signals stays long, around 1-2 hours iirc, and the next spawn usually available immediately after you clear the 1st one (make sure to grind all signal emitting blocks) -these also eats your PCU so make sure to clean up debris and/or raise PCU limit of ur world edit: apparently this update just out for PC at this moment? so need to wait bit longer for consoles

Honestly, making a small ship capable of ferrying around the blocks is probably neccessary, just cut all blocks around the prototech block and yoink it with the ship and then you can decide what to do with it after the fact
Have to cut it out and use merge blocks. You can build them, but you can't craft prototech frames. Those have to be found and other prototech components have to be crafted in the prototech assembler. If you play with mods I recommend "Advanced Welding - Detatching and reattaching blocks!" it adds a weld pad block which you apply to any disconnected block of your choice and the block you want to apply the detached block too. you then line them up and push them together and they weld in place. it also allows you to detach blocks from all surrounding blocks without damaging it. works really well with the "Improved Engineering mod" aka Grabby hands, but keep in mind you probably can't manipulate large grid blocks with this except in space.
@@jamestaylor9887 so basicly if you find the assembler then you are basicly golden to build every other prototech as long as you find the non-craftable components??
@@wiccanen Sorta, in order to craft most of the components i believe you need prototech scrap which i believe can be found like other prototech components, but you also get it from grinding down prototech blocks. similar to how you get scrap metal from power cells when you grind those down. You made the conscious decision to click on the video if you didn’t want spoilers you shouldn’t have watched the video.
why click on the video then, ya fucking moron?
How do you get the prototech? Do you have to cut it out and mergeblock it to your ship? Or do you just grind it down and rebuild it somewhere else?
@@jamestaylor9887 Thanks for the heads up!
Zero legion put out a video yesterday that goes over every block and he gives a more in-depth explanation.
