Great Video! Starting a new MP survival run on Keen servers, I took over a prospecting station within minutes of dropping in, and am using it as my main base. You can approach low from the landing pad side and no turret will see you, and once inside you can grind up to each turret from through the ceiling easily. Just yesterday I looted a military watchtower. I’m feeling a bit proud of myself now that I know that the tower is considered one of the really hard encounters considering I only died like 3 times while doing so, using a precision rifle to take out one big Gatling turret, and then slapping an assault cannon on the nose of my miner for the rest! Lots of loot, but tbh I have one big gripe with the encounter system: You are better off hacking and looting only containers and doors to access them, and then deleting the grid through the info tab to save on PCU, because salvaging the grid without all the hackable blocks being hacked and owned by you-or even going through with hacking all the hackable blocks-will put you VERY solidly into the red reputation with that faction, and considering how inconvenient it can be to build rep via NPC contracts, it means that as long as you are on the server, that NPC faction will likely have a Bounty placed on your head, a mission that other players can take that’ll point them right at you by giving a “last known location” GPS. You won’t be alerted that they are hunting you, heck they don’t HAVE to hunt you: they have your coordinates, they can simply wait until you go offline and then start scouting for your base while you are offline, looting it, destroying it, setting a trap, ANYTHING. Hacking blocks for ownership is an old system that still has some practical uses, but it REALLY could use a rework. There’s no reason why I should have to grind down Air Vents and Decorative Consoles, as a last step to take over ownership of a grid. Hacking blocks simply works as that-once you grind out all the computers of a block and re weld it-it’s yours, but that ignores the fact that plenty of blocks that have computers aren’t “smart” blocks. IMO, claiming an NPC grid should give you a majority ownership of all blocks on the grid (since doing so implies you infiltrated far enough to actually do so) except for the following: Weapons, Cargo Containers (Not Freight, Barrels, Armories or lockers/weapon racks), Doors, Survival Kits and Medical Rooms, and “Smart” blocks like AI automation blocks and Sensors. My reason being that it having only this many things to hack will out you lower rep in the NPC faction, but not in the red, so it’s at least theoretically possible to recover the damage by doing their missions. Because if you are in the red, that faction won’t let you trade with them. The wiki states that they straight up will “lock their doors to you” if you have bad rep with them, so it could potentially be irrecoverable by peaceable means, since encounter in multiplayer tend to be a bit rarer, and hunting pirates to recover NPC standing will take an incredibly unreasonable amount of time and effort. (Does not to apply to derelict encounters, since the faction UNKNOWN doesn’t track rep when grinding) The new encounters are SO COOL and look great and are designed very beautifully, not to mention that they are a boon to players in any stage of progression (though most effective to early and mid game players), so giving them such a rewarding opportunity just to either force them to loot items and delete the grid, OR takeover the grid (and possibly salvage it) and require a TON of recovery, or ignore it entirely seems slightly counterintuitive. (Not to mention PCU costs, since most encounters IMO average about 2000 PCU (give or take 500 or so) a decent chunk of which will be embedded in voxels, so if you plan on keeping the thing as a base then that’s dead PCU to you sitting there unless you either 1: lop off the base’s foot and remote delete the chunk that you can’t see or 2: dig into voxels to grind it, which is a BAD IDEA since the way voxel rendering works means that any deformation basically reveals your location to anyone who can see that side of the planet from orbit when the sun it out.)
Also, I’m not including things like Batteries, Timers, and Event Controllers in the category of “Smart Blocks” that should not be transferred automatically on grid claim despite having computers for a few reasons: 1: Unless you have a handful of power cells in your pocket, grinding batteries is virtually impossible since you are bound to accidentally scrap a power cell and then be unable to weld it back up. This is due to the fact that in the build progress on the right, the computers are right above the power cells and both the hack and functional lines are overlapping, between the power cells and computers. There are ways to consistently hack batteries, but it requires having access to multiple tiers of welders and grinders in order to get to specific percentages in build progress. 2: these blocks have designs (or block variants with designs) that look GREAT as building texturing/greebling, and can be hard to find and hack. I spend an hour tearing up the floor of the prospecting outpost looking for the last event controller, and it turned out to be outside, next to the door as part of the wall, just with a plain looking side facing out. Invisible. And you can’t turn on “show in hud” for blocks you don’t own. 3: for encounters, AIBs, TBs, ECs, and things like Broadcast Controllers and antennas are basically ONLY used to message the player as they close in/do damage. Once the player is in, they server literally zero purpose other than as resources and/or hogging PCU.
The first and only one i found so far is the Pirate Stronghold. It surprised that they had the big gun configured to target characters. In the past with the mayday signals, the big guns are set to only target ships IIRC. This was also on Pertam (I believe, I was pretty tired when I started) and happened quite early in the game, spawning less than 6km from my landing spot. Oddly, a game I started on one of the moons (the one near the alien planet) never spawned a single one, so I'm guessing it either has to be a planet or a body over a certain size, as there were plenty of flat areas where something could spawn on that moon. The first vehicle you showed looks an awful lot like one from the Frostbite scenario that you'll find partially buried, exactly the same way (wheels stripped, etc.). Thank you for making this video, as I didn't realize just how nice or elaborate some of these were... definitely worth doing some more exploring.
I am glad you enjoyed the video. The new encounters definitely add a reason to explore the planet surfaces to a greater degree, not to mention the 'free' resources available when captures.
im planning on starting to play this game finally after many years of just watching content, i still got no clue how to play it but it seems alot more fun now since the singleplayer has al that stuff
I've encountered a Processing Facility, but left it alone. It belonged to a faction I trade with often, and want to stay on good terms with. I also encountered a Trade Runner. It didn't belong to any faction, and identified as neutral, but the interior turret opened fire on me when I approached. I'm in the process of salvaging it right now. I'm not sure if it's going to be able to take off on its own power, since it only has ion thrusters, and they may not be enough to lift the ship inside the atmosphere of Europa.
Maybe throw a large atmo thruster or two on there to provide a boost to get above the atmosphere? It isnt the most elegant method, but can be useful in such situations.
The first crashed ship I encountered was the Explorer. Was pretty fun trying to repair and get it running again. It's awesome to see all the encounters on display in the video!
Found 3 of these so far. First one had Protech parts, and defenders arrived. Second 2 had, for me, junk and no defenders arrived. Factory I'm itself usually whoops me. Depends.

If you go to the Steam install folder on your computer, the .sbc files can be found in /steamapps/common/SpaceEngineers/Content/Data/Prefabs/PlanetaryEncounters/, which can then be copied and used as prefabs for a Modular Encounters System mod.
Using the Modular Encounters System Mod on steam, you can create NPC encounters from pre-built grids. I've found a couple of these in a Keen server so far, but neither of them were red, one was blue and the other was black. I imagine that is a faction thing but idk
@ by any chance could you make them into blueprints and publish them on the steam workshop me and others would really appreciate that if it’s not too much trouble thank you 🙏
I started a new game after the contact up date. I have MEE running in the game. I have been playing the game for over 20 hours and have not seen any of these spawn in my new game. Is this because of MEE?
While I do not know the details of the spawn mechanics, in my current post-Contact playthrough I have found them by just exploring and moving around on planets. However, I do know that they have a limited broadcast range which can make them difficult to find in if they spawn in further from the player than that range.
The new update added a grid claim option in the grid menu, after which all the blocks with computers need to be hacked if you want to use them. However, there are mods that can make this easier.
From what I understand, some engineers have had difficulty finding them. I looked for several hours to find nothing, then had several spawn in in the course of an hour. The trick is finding them once they spawn in, as their antennas do not transmit very far.
They need to take some tips and ideas from Empyrion Galactic Survival. That game is trash as far as its technical aspects, but it's fun to play. Mix the strengths of these two games together and update the lighting & other shared failures and they'd have an absolute beast on their hands
I haven't yet taken the time to explore Empyrion, but it looks like a fun game. I may have to give it a shot and possibly make a new series out of it. :)
Those defensive AI blocks is cheeky. It makes the turrets more responsive to add a little range
