What stops me from writing in journals, diaries, etc. is that writing being discovered and judged by others. Instead, I just "pray my day," at the end of it and let it go.

Same here ☝️…the only two times I decided to have an actual journal 📓 with very private thoughts, the first time I was a teen, my mom read it and the second time in my late 20s my ex-husband read it….Both times I was very mortified by this invasion of privacy :(

I feel the same way so for the material that could be too revealing I write in my iPad with the pencil. It’s all locked down. I recommend this.

Strap it to your body like tourists do with the money or re-evaluate your relationships and values. I mean - if you care that much about people who don't respect your intimacy, personal space and such then in, my opinion, your priorities are upside down.

@@bmxt939wow - Sometimes we think things we don’t want other people to know. I’ll give you an example. I have a step daughter who has a problem with pathological lying and manipulation and temper tantrums, and she lacks empathy and has severe mental illness. I don’t love her as a human. I write down everything she has done to us as a way of letting the anger out. I would never want her seeing that later if I died. It would be hurtful to her. It’s sometimes about protecting people. It’s not about not being able to trust them

@@GrayWithMe In such case there's no better solution than to write down and burn or if you need to keep your brain dump/emotional vent for some reason - hiding it somewhere. I mean people are still able to smuggle drugs, cheat on their spouses and spy on each other therefore there are tons of ways to hide your diary good enough.
Because I don't see any reasons rational enough to prevent me from jou of writing by hand.

I write journals for 14 years now .. the only time my privacy was invaded was when I got manic and my sisters read my diaries/journals to understand what I was going through ..
I was so sad that this happened , and I got realy carful in what I put on paper.. I was out of my mind in the period they did that and I give them full excuse for doing so, but still something in me got hurt for it ...
Now that I gained my mental health back the practice of writing is very therapeutic for me and I think everyone should do it it, specially analytical writing ✍️

For those that don’t want their writing read by others, write, take a photo and then save it to a locked photo album on your phone, then shred the writing.

I have written in diaries and journals off and on for many years. I have also begun some commonplace books, but didn't know that's what they were called. I love collecting quotes and short poems, just little things that interest me.
In looking back, I have found some real treasures... things my boys said to me, to each other. And I have even found a few things they have written, in their own handwriting. I can't tell you what treasures they have become to me. It's almost as if they're still alive, still speaking with me.
Ana, you are a treasure! You are bringing out some of the best in me. Thank you, my dear friend!

Very useful technique that this video just reminded me about. An issue from work has bounced around in my head, made me feel tired and rough thinking about it. Written it down (messily 😊).. it will help me to filter through the thoughts and emotions this issue has caused. Many thanks for the reminder and the great references in your video. ♥️😊

I journal, but then rip it up and throw it away, because I don't want someone to find it and judge me based on these few myopic words. I use journalling to sort out emotions and circumstances and these are ever-changing. Ripping it up allows me to "let go" and live in the now. I do have a small planner that I use as a diary of daily events and gratitude, with a weekly review. This feels safe enough to keep. It is also where I keep my reading journal and haikus that I write! As a minimalist, this system of having it all in one portable place is great! Love your videos, Ana! You're so authentic and genuine. ❤

After your video about writting to boost clarity and scroll less, I started a diary. It is more off a dump-diary. As I writte in it when depression gets difficult, what happened on my day, or which bad memory came back, and what I thought or think about it. It is so relaxing and rewarding. In less than a week, I got the habit or mechanism to writte in it when I feel bad.
I highly reccomend it to those who are struggling. I do psychological and psychiatric treatment, but it doesn't compare to self expression for the sake of oneself.
Dear Ana, the private diaries for kids are a scam! I had two with different styles of locks and they where so easy to lockpick! You could open them with a pen! Lucklily I discovered this toying with them when I lost the keys, but it's still upseting hahaha.

I'm pretty much addicted to journaling my thoughts at this point. It's a most peaceful thing in my life, it calms me down, grounds me and lets me to meta-think, rise above moment's emotions and prejudices.
I also want to keep short notes, but I can't get anything written down. I wait for something special, but life is pretty mundane. Maybe I just need to write anything and to not care if it's worthy of writing down, idk.

I have 2 books that I’ve started writing in, a 5 year journal/ diary and a Commonplace book (which I heard about from you, thank you!). I haven’t written much in the commonplace book yet, but I have started taking notes on my phone with the intention of transferring them to it. I’ve never been able to faithfully keep a diary, but I bought a book that only has space for a few lines per day, and 5 years per day. I think it must be the combination of low expectations (not much space) and the prospect of looking back at what happened the previous year once I catch up to when I started, I’ve been pretty faithful when it comes to writing ! I wish I had started before the pandemic, I think it would be fascinating to look back at that time, but at least I’ve started now
