    Just what I needed Jason, thank you! I ordered it (my first light) and wasn't sure how the softbox worked. So thank you!

      Great to hear and I'm sure you will like the light, because it really is awesome! I've used it almost everyday since I got it and it's holding up like a champ ;) Thanks for the kind comments, Jay

    I currently bought this light and tested it out today. I love how bright the light is , but I’m not a fan of the fan (lol) . I’m currently filming on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and using the onboard microphone, editing in iMovie on my phone as well . So there is no noise cancellation option until I move it over to my computer. Do you feel that based on the money that this cost that it has such a noticeable fan noise ?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 года назад +1

      Hello, as I reported in my review the noise that the fan makes is the biggest negative of this light. However, it's easy to correct in post if using a computer. In your case however, you might be better off with another light that makes no noise. Problem is they just don't seem to exist for this type of brightness, light quality, and money. There are much more expensive lights that make pretty much no noise, but they are out of my price point for sure. You could try going for a Ring Style LED light or twin LED panel lights for example (amzn.to/3mMulBl) Or you could go with a regular light like the Impact Kit I have linked in the description area of this video, but they give off a lot of heat and the bulbs don't last that long, plus they are not dimmable...

    Rookie here: if you’re creating sit-down videos, can you use this as your only light in a small space?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 года назад

      Yes I think it will work for you, because I'm using it as my main light currently in a fairly small space. The background kicker light Im using is not necessary, but it does add some dimension to my head. The only issue with this light as I said in the review, is the little bit of fan noise it makes. You will need to edit that out of the audio in post like I demonstrated in the review.

    Don't ever use 50% noise reduction as your voice will filter too much. At most you should use 45% and it will be about the same reduction without too much filtered voice. 40-42% is the sweet spot inside FCPX for what you get. But if you want to remove the noise professionally, use iZotope RX-7 or 8, which is what I use.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 года назад

      Thanks for the tips Duke ;) I actually got a Good light now that makes almost zero noise, but you are 100% right about the noise reduction! 50% is to much and around 42-43 seams about perfect!

    • @artofduke
      @artofduke 3 года назад

      @@Jason_Hermann You're welcome. Again, if you really want a professional audio job you need to get iZotope which can get rid of almost anything.

    would you recommend the aputure 60d with a lantern softbox or the GVM bi-colour 100w lighting kit (also has a lantern softbox)? I will be using the set up as an upgrade to my ring light for self tape auditions. The noise output is a bit relevant but I am mostly after soft flattering lighting :)

      These days I would recommend Amaran COB 100x S Bi-Color LED Monolight which is made by Aperture, but more affordable: geni.us/ZBxG0X1

      thank you! would a lantern be best to put over it?@@Jason_Hermann

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  6 месяцев назад

      @@chloeee6789 The lantern style works, but in my opinion that is more for lighting up an area as apposed to lighting a human in the most flattering way. I much prefer a softbox like this: geni.us/RGp1 which is what I am using to light up my face in the head shoot footage you see in the studio. The grid helps keep the light going straight, so it does not also light up the background behind me. I have the softbox at about a 45 degree angle to my right and in front of me. It's also aiming down so the catchlight in my eye is around 9-10 o'clock... This allows me to use low power lights in the background to selectively illuminate what I want if I want. The Lantern just lights up the entire area with little to no direction behavior for lack of a better word.

      thank you for your response! I recently tried two neewer softboxes without the grid and for whatever reason they were very unflattering at every distance. Maybe if i did bi colour softboxes that would help? I have very dark hair and eyebrows and very fair skin that looked orange with the softboxes and my hair was about 3 shades lighter@@Jason_Hermann

    I’m having a problem with the chassis for the soft box 😣 basically when I throw the soft box on top and I flip it over to push down to hook it on to the bottom, the 2 hooks don’t align with the metal piece in the middle of the chassis 🤷🏻‍♂️ I tried unscrewing everything but I can’t seem to rotate the metal pirate in the middle of the chassis. Any ideas?? 🙁

    I recently just bought this light used but basically new but without a stand or soft box .. what stand and soft box do you recommend buying for this light ? I haven’t been able to find that set sold separately without the light

      That is an excellent question and what you need is a "Bowens Mount" softbox like one of these... amzn.to/381qzjd

      Thanks and here is the link for Amazon amzn.to/2T2a5P4 It looks like the 90W is the same unit if you look at the model number in the description, but I'm not sure why it's different than the one on BHPhoto here: bhpho.to/2Is3ivN The light goes for about $300 US

    Their gear is all like a mini version of what theyre copying. Kinda cool but also feels underpowered. Bought some of their led panels. Rly underwhelmed.
