I'd never heard of Broken Ranks at all and this looks like it's only struggling for lack of marketing. You're really gettin in on the ground floor here. I like the quest descriptions!

I didn't hear if he mentioned this, but in combat, there's a rule where some attack takes the first turn and goes as follows. 1st Mental attack > Range attacks > and finally Melee attacks as last. That rule applies in a 1 vs 1. That changes in a party against a party for turn base.
I have been playing Broken Ranks back when it was first released as Pride of Tearn. but because of its low player base, I seem to occasionally drop the game. By no means it's a boring game and it gives a Dark Souls feel to it. It's a hard game, especially playing alone. therefore I recommend to anyone new; to find a guild as soon as possible. The reason is any boss from level 45 or higher will likely not solo it unless you're jacked up with OP equipment (but we're starting from new) And even then unlucky hits happen. This game is meant to be played with a party. The Knight for protection, the sheed/voodoo as a debuff, the Firemage/Barbarian as DPS, and the Druid as a healer. All have their roles and they shine so brightly in a party. but at last, its Low player base is what brings it down. Nothing here is Pay to win; sure you have the premium Sub but even then it requires you to go out and grind the items or buy them from someone else. Cosmetic is nothing but cosmetics that you dont have to buy because the armor from drops looks cool themself.
I strongly encourage anyone to give it a try, is a great game and it gets better with friends. It's a bit grindy but the grind is fun with a party. Not to mention it's great and welcoming community.

Theres an option in EQ to disable helmet visibility so you can see your pretty face :>
Also quest outcomes are dependant of your choices and so are the rewards you get
There is a market for rare items so you can sell those to players in exchange for platinum coins. For example one of the first dungeons involwing spiders can be done in a party on lvl 15 and if you drop gloves you can sell them for up to 250 platinum on the market.
Really like this vid, shame it does not show any higher lv bosses or dungeons, also I would mention how the game introduces players to bosses and dungeons via quests. Regarding plat and premium stuff, it is very easy to get if you know what to farm and how to make most efficient runs. When your lv 40-50 it takes you about 1h of farming to get approx 750k gold which is equivalent of 100-150 plat. PS I love the way you edited the vid , looks super cool and professional ;p
Ty ty, the plat farming definitely seemed that way. I thought to myself…well damn just make alt characters or make enough gold to buy it. So many people have written off this game already though sadly.
this game is actually great, but the monetization killed it for a lot of ppl.

just wanted to thank vagrant for his critique of the game also wanted to mention the outstanding detail and interesting ( and gory !!! ) kills in the game preview if the level of detail shown on the preview were really in game detail level ...well, as long as the story was good and the gameplay sign me up love them rpgs, but its not an easy genre to get just right none of them are , they need to achieve awesome graphics, gameplay, story, fun, thats not as easy as it sounds

@@VagrantVideos yeah u never know when youll find a diamond in the rough plus alot ( and i mean A LOT!!!!! ) of these games are coming out, so many that i dont have time to really check em all out, for example on the phone im looking for anything like starcraft and i just cant find any rts games, have you? theres tons of games and now that i have a top of the line samsung a ultra the best samsung there is i can pretty much play anything but most of the games ive tried are meh, got any reccomendations? i like sc2 wings of liberty and warhammer dow and skyrim type or similar got any reccomendations? i appreciate any advice ty very much!

I currently play it and just reached level 9. It's fun and the music is so relaxing 😅
I am only sometimes getting tired reading all that quest stuff.
The difficulty is ok. Just take care at the beginning to not attack groups of 2 or 3 enemies
Spending the time to upgrade gear also keeps you pretty strong

i played when first came out luv it was just waiting on guilds to come out those guild pets are very nice to have now how to get ahead in this game as a F2P player u can sell set weapons and armor to players for platinum then u can use that platinum to get all the goodies where to farm won't tell everywhere that's half the fun but bosses drop the set gear it's a rare drop but once u get them u can sell for platinum glhf evry1 i can't wait to go back
This mmorpg is out for 1 year already and i never heard of it. Damn! I definitely need to try it out. I love the graphics and the feel of it.

@@VagrantVideos After playing for 4-5 hours, all i can say about this game is that it's fabulous. The art style is so compelling that it makes me want to read the dialogues, even though i usually hate reading texts in mmorpgs because of the over the top hypeness of the game that drives me to rush through the quests and get to end game, but here the atmosphere is chill, it's intriguing. There's a sense of mystery to the world, like there could be some important quest or item in a box just around the corner. And the music... ooh! Perfectly crafted for this fantasy genre (not like the classic korean mmorpgs where the usage of an orchestra in the OST is so exaggerated that it becomes disgusting to listen to). Of course, all these things that i find awesome, might only be because of the honeymoon phase i'm currently in with the game. 😆
I grew up on these types of RPG's. To bad the monetization wasn't old school also. I'd try it out if I could just buy it and play it.

SO glad I found this video, was tempted to buy it. But "turn based combat with action timer" HELL NO! The whole reason for Turn based combat is that is is not about mashing buttons. I would stay in FF14 or BDO or EVERY OTHER MMO for that.

I went on dcuo after 5 years and it has changed alot its not the same game anymore. Some things are good that they did though and change is good sometimes, yet they have still royally screwed up in other aspects of the game.

From when I played any quests YOU completed only counted for you unfortunately. Guess it incentivizes you more to play solo.
I have been playing Taern for about 9 1/2 years and i am also a big fan of Broken Ranks since its release. It is a hidden gem for all out there that like Might & Magic Combat with Story Telling out of Myrtana (Gothic). But everyone should be aware that the games a long term project. Reaching Max Level might take you 1 or 2 years based on how much you play and grind.
Progression is hidden behind a paywall. At a certain point it becomes impossible to level if you don't dish out the money!
There are too few or no low-to-medium level players, which makes the boss farm unavailable. Additionally, there's premium currency that you can use to buy things that should really be free (friends, ignored), not to mention the pay-to-win aspects of this 'premium'.
Ya, did they ever adjust some of those systems? I remember seeing them update some of the P2w aspectsc

NO ! Admins allow macro for some people and some others not.
Game is unfair, not to mention these vials u have to farm for hours to get a few chances to upgrade your equipment.

Thanks for covering this game, never heard of it until today and I loved Atlantica online, also turn based.
On a side note though, our genre, MMOs is dying and turn based even more so, I get that people can always find something critical to say about both in every game that comes out but just realize you may be killing off the genre that you love in doing so. If you look at it from the dev's side, I wouldn't want to make an MMO, let alone a turn based one in this culture of demanding perfection.
I try to cover smaller games that never get a chance from big content creators and honestly I absolutely hate all the negativity in the genre right now. I give every game I cover a fair shake and its gotten me quite a bit of flak for it. I do wish people would be a bit more positive when it comes to the hobby, I understand hating on p2w or bad practices but games just trying to make something fresh? Its over blown.
Critics didn't kill the mmo genre, over aggressive monetization did. That's hyperbole anyway since the genre is technically thriving at numbers much, much higher than 20 years ago. In any case, you can't just try to guilt-trip someone who's profession it is to critique a thing - it's his job and idk 'bout you but i'd much prefer if he was honest in his critique rather than simply gloss over any negatives a product might have - or worse, shill out for the thing!

You forgot to mention extremely high rng and extremely grindy game play that requires group but punishes you severely. At this moment EU servers are dead.
The dev team behind this game are a big yikes imo. Super passive aggressive and terrible moderation practices. Feels like there is a nonexistent community just because of their weird attitude. Literally act like redditors which I can nearly confirm because they have a PR account for fucking reddit. I can't tell if they also moderate the reddit but based on how completely dead it is that would be my guess. They respond to like many posts with their passive aggressive tone and have posted themselves many times.
The way they treat their players in general is just kind of disgusting. Ok game bogged down by terrible devs. I don't want to play an mmo where the dev team that seems to actively dislike their own community that even is there, which is very small as is. Not to mention the way the game is balanced actively encourages toxic behaviour and attitudes. With essentially only one or two options being viable in any situation in group play. Feels like you are being pushed to play solo, similar to WoW's main community issue

No, you should NOT play it. its slow AF and very repetitive and quite boring after a couple hours.
