PD Simplified : Motorcycle Suspension Explained | Part 2 - What Is Compression Damping?

  • Опубликовано: 27 авг 2024
  • As Shumi explained in the first episode of this four-part series on motorcycle suspension, its job is to keep the wheels firmly in contact with the ground. In part 2, we take a closer look at the compression damping. Essentially, it is controlling the rate at which the springs compress. It gives control over how the spring reduces in length as the wheel climbs up a bump in the road. Not all motorcycles have adjustable compression, but there are ways to go around it. Shumi explains it all in this episode of PD Simplified.

You said "if your front forks take 212 ml of *fuel* ". Do dampers have fuel in them?

    • @shu_mar

Hey PD !! Why is it necessary to change the fork oil every year ??

    • @shu_mar

Because fork oil wears out and sludge accumulates. Wear out = can’t do it’s job. Sludge = gets into things and stops them from working properly

    I have a question.
When I asked my local mechanic to adjust the suspension of my FZ V3 to a little bit harder setting, he said if we change it to harder/softer setting, then,
    1. will impact the life of chain sprockets.
    2. So chain has to be frequently checked or observed if it is getting tighter/looser or not.
Hence he said not to mess up with the tweeting suspension.
Is this true? Please share your thoughts.

    • @aniruthparamasivan3441
      @aniruthparamasivan3441 2 года назад +3

I feel the suspension setting doesn't have anything to do with the chain and sprocket sets.
Because the tension in the chain is adjusted with the bolts in the swing arm.

Background: when riding my bike i feel they arent moving in the same direction. Feels like front wheel wants to go one side and rear is stuck elsewhere. Specially on roads having a bit of undulations. How do i know if its the rear wheel which is mis aligned or front forks or if its because i have added puncture proof sealant in my tube or if its a bend in my chassis.
Question: how to analyse and arrive at the what is the cause. The RE service guys never feel a problem in the bike no matter how many times i tell. The only solution is they adjust the T BAR a bit which i feel isnt the solution

Adding or removing small amount won't hurt. Does your tyre blow if you fill 1.5-2% of more air, does your engine blow if you fill 1.5%-2% more oil? While we know overfill of engine oil is equally bad as having less oil in engine.
