This is arguably the best movie in the MCU. Definitely top 3
Agreed. Better than the first (which I also loved) and better in at least some storytelling elements than the third, but the third is just SUCH A BLAST. For me, the only character with a comparable set of movies is Spider-Man. I have a tough time picking which trilogy I enjoy more, but both contain (in my opinion) the best movies in the MCU.
@@jimclayson Personally I don't really consider Civil War a Captain America movie. It's more of an Avengers Lite lmao. But yeah they're all three great movies.
Really hard to argue top 3 or 5 or whatever. This one is absolutely up there. Endgame, No Way home, Winter Soldier, Ragnarok, all right there.
@@jimclayson No Way Home it is the only one that stands out since the previous two are clunkers
@@RM-qj8cs I thoroughly enjoyed different aspects of all three. I thought the writing on "No Way Home" was a bit weak, but the acting and nostalgia factors WAY more than made up for any deficiencies. WONDERFUL movie overall.
This movie changed the MCU's personality entirely.
The Captain America movies are my favorite.
I'd say Ragnarok did too
Pretty much all the MCU movies so far is a game changers for the next one to comes out
I wish that were true, but if you look at phase three, the only movie that follows this one in tone is its own sequel. Guardians of the Galaxy is the one that actually set the tone for the MCU to this day.
too bad they didn't start the whole universe with The First Avenger and Captain Marvel, then go into Iron Man, etc., but that's just me. I like to watch them in chronological order instead of release order...
@@kingscorpion7346 and then you'd get to the post-credits and mess up everything
This movie may be the most perfectly made movie in the MCU. Perfect pacing, excellent story, and there was amazing chemistry between the cast, particularly ScarJo and Chris Evans. It was this movie that started fans wanting Steve and Natasha to have a thing. They are perfect partners.
my 2nd favorite after black panther and 1 of my top 10 moivies of almost 40 years of watching movies
@@nafimahbub74 why are you like this?
@@nafimahbub74 uh, spoiler?
I think you'd find a high percentage of Marvel movie fans who call this their favorite of them all.
I honestly don't see it as a MCU movie at all. It's basically an "old school" spy movie, it's closer to Bourne movies than other MCU movies.
there is a story that Sebastian Stan originally auditioned for the role of Captain America but when he was done they told him that they preferred him for the role of Bucky Barnes, to which he replied "who the hell is Bucky?" The casting director said "oh my god you are perfect" and that was how he got the part.
And he said that line in this movie
@@SergioArellano-yd7ik I know, that is the point of the story
This movie changed my view on Captain America completely! It made him my favorite hero and type of leader I'd follow!
Same
Facts he’s my favorite Avenger/marvel character
“The last time I trusted someone I lost an eye…” is a line that just ages so well. 😂
Yeah, it sure felt like there was some gravitas behind it.
Lol that's why i think it's even funnier.
A decade later and this is still my favorite MCU movie
The Russo brothers directed this action masterpiece - and we're lucky they also direct Captain America 3 and Avengers 3 and 4!
Those are also VERY good movies!
21:12 Nice to have a reactor actually recognise a Community actor cameo. The Russo brothers who directed this film (plus three others) also directed episodes of Community and have actors from the show cameoing in all but of their MCU films.
Sam's superhero name is FALCON. They referenced it about 2 times in the movie, 1 when he gave his "resume" to Cap and Nat, 2 when Agent Hill was asking for his status when they were blowing up the ships.
Congratulations! You have made it to the point in this journey where the movies just get more & more exciting and in some opinions better from here on out. Different flavors, important story details and quality... It will all come together at the end of the saga when you go back and think about or re-watch some of these movies.
Next up we have Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, then Captain America: Civil War. That should be enough to go on for now. 😄
@@Caseytify Just so surprisingly far behind I guess
1) One the Project Insight targets mentioned was a fellow by the name of Stephen Strange. You might wanna remember that name.
2) The title kind of had a double meaning. Besides Bucky, "The Winter Solider" is actually a reference to Thomas Paine's writings during the American Revolution about "the summer solider and the sunshine patriot" (i.e. people who only stand up and fight for what's right when it's safe and easy). The opposite of this would be a "winter solider", someone who fights when it's hard, like Steve. So you could say that Captain America IS the Winter Soldier.
I’ve never seen that before, really interesting! Thanks!
Holy shit this is the first time I’ve seen that explanation of the Winter Soldier term. Damn 🔥🔥
One of the most well constructed MCU films. Absolutely love this film.
Sam's no hesitation on "when do we start" is epic
Such a fucking cold ass way to end a movie too 🥶
The one thing that isn't talked about enough is the introduction of Sam Wilson in this movie and what a great character he is and will become
For me, this is my favorite Marvel "solo" film. It marked a significant turn for the studio as well, as it marked the first Marvel film directed by the Russo Brothers who, in my opinion, directed the best Marvel films to date (shout outs to Waititi and Gunn, but the Russos' movies were just next level for me). Their films made everything so much tighter, cleaner, while juggling so many elements yet still enabling the viewers to follow it all--not to mention, the best action scenes BY FAR of all the Marvel films.
Waititi is not worth being there, not at all
@@leonardolonghi3472 your opinion. but Ragnarok reset the Thor character and revitalized the franchise after the first two Thor movies lagged compared to the other Marvel films.
@@normlee6566 not a surprise. People enjoy space clows easier😅
@@Kessekom oh, please. Most of the MCEU heroes splinter from the comics. The films take small elements of the characters, but they greatly diverge. If you haven't figured that out after a decade of marvel films, that's on you. That's like saying the Ultimate comic line ruined the canon golden/silver age comics. They just exist in different worlds. Apply that to both the MCEU and DCEU and the comics.
@@Kessekom then you have been griping about marvel films for more than a decade. Yet, you watched them all. Dude, accept they are different creatures. It's like you just like to gripe about them, but instead of just not watching them, you choose to watch them. Move on, man.
Favorite MCU movie. It's good just as a standalone film and the Winter Soldier scenes are top tier for me.
For a auxillary character, Peggy Carter's story with Steve turned out to be a touching story.
The was the Marvel film that not only legitimized Cap as cool, but also solidified the legacy of the directors, The Russo Bros. They went on to direct both the final Captain America film and the last two Avengers films, Infinity War and Endgame. They are down in history as 2 of the MCU's best directors, and this was their debut film!
This was the film that made it clear the MCU had legs. Phase 1 was great, a dream come true, but this is where it became something special.
Still the top MCU movie for me. I've watched this movie countless times and still not get bored. This is quite simply, a masterpiece.
Still in my top 3 of MCU movies
My favorite too. I also loved that the effects were immediately felt on the Agent os S.H.I.E.L.D. television show the next week.
She needs to catch AOS & Agent Carter for more of the world beyond the Avengers.
I remember the first time I saw "the twin's", I watched that end credit over and over. Love your reactions can't wait for more.
and now you know why Winter Soldier is one of the best Marvel movies -- hell, movies, period. side note: the same guys directed this, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. All four are excellent and closely connected.
"THE TWINS!" Those two words set up one of my favorite characters in the entire MCU. Great great reaction! Captain America: The Winter Soldier is undoubtedly one of the best in the entire canon. Can't wait for more!
Whenever this movie is watched and reacted to, it's my absolute favorite!!
Two reunions for Captain America. Both were pretty heartbreaking in their own ways. Agent Carter and Bucky.
The introduction of Sam and the Falcon wings!! You chose a very cool character to immediately like!!
This also introduces Agent 13, Steve's "neighbor", (my favorite actress from another series) I like the scene because when she mentions leaving the stereo on, that is one of my favorite songs!! "It's Been A Long, Long Time" (yes I'm old) but it's such a great nostalgic song! Spotify .... Kitty Kallen
The final introduction.... the twins. Wait and see.
Take care, Addie!!
This movie is my favorite movie, so well done. So many new threads that lead to future movies and TV shows. Also the growth of Cap and how he sees the world. The events of this movie directly effect his future decisions and where he chooses to take a stand.
Sam is Falcon. They don't say it verbally but that is what was on his file that he handed Cap as his resume.
So glad you loved this movie as much as you did. Even almost ten years later, it's still widely regarded among the fanbase as one of the best MCU films to date.
Lol it's funny people can spot Bucky so early; back then nobody knew who Sebastian Stan was
It's different when you're not watching it on a giant screen with massive Dolby speakers constantly forcing you to duck and cover. When you see the Winter Soldier on an Imax screen all you can think about is your fear, as he starts walking silently towards you like the T-1000 in T2
Comic fans knew who he was from the moment the title of the movie was announced, but that just made it all the more fun when the reveal happened with the "regular" audiences, hearing those gasps and the shock in the theatre.
@@Bad_Wolf_Media I agree. Sebastian Stan's portrayal was beyond perfect. His Winter Soldier introduced people to the uncomfortable notion that super hero's can die. It was very discomforting for a lot of people seeing Steve Roger's getting choked out by the Winter Soldier's metal arm.
When you find out how far Hydra extends, it is interesting to rewatch other movies and note what Hydra is working for...
My favorite MCU movie in Phase 2.
I assume you spotted bucky in the dark scene in the house with senator pierce? Disney plus makes that's scenes brighter than it was in theatre and in disk for some reason. Usually you can only see his eyes with the shadows so dark everywhere else. 🤣
Yeah disney created a spoiler lol
Not a senator. He was Nick Fury's boss on the World Council.
I love how much she loves Sam.
It has been a long time since I first saw all these MCU movies (and many times each since then), so it is always fun and refreshing to watch along with someone who's seeing them for the first time....and you are a fantastic reactor to watch with, Addie! Your joy and genuine emotions are delightful, and I look forward to watching the rest with you. I agree: this is an incredibly good movie, and one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!! 😊
A detail I love about this movie is that Cap has a near perfect memory. He doesn’t need the notebook for people’s suggestions. Cap writes things down so people know he cares about their recommendations.
The way those cars fly when struck in the intersection during the Fury chase sequence always gets my respect.
I love the fact you're so inro them and get the characters stories and also feel the emotions of them too. Can't wait for you to watch GOTG it's hilarious and a little different to the rest 🤣
Such an intense movie, and it really raised the bar for what's at risk. It changes Steve's world, and Nick's "final words" about trust stick with him going forward. And it gets better from here too. 🙂
Also: this is probably my second or third favorite MCU movie, and you haven't seen its competition yet, so it does keep improving from awesome. 😀
This also means that the Council that Nick was talking to in Avengers was Hydra.
Such an amazing movie. Still to this day, 8 years later, it’s still my favorite MCU film. Also remember the name Stephen Strange.
Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon.
Hi. I'm an old-school comic book kid (1960s, older than most MCU heroes) and a former comic writer/artist.
For a short while in the '70s the synergy between Cap and Falcon was so popular, the title was changed to Captain America and the Falcon, instead of just Captain America. And it was my favorite.
I don't want to do spoilers on Sam's arc (not sure where you are in the series), but I hope it's cool to talk about little homages to the comic books in the current movie reaction.
I don't think it's a coincidence that the first time we see Sam with the wings, he's wearing an avocado T-shirt.
Marvel sort of had a 'color-code' to denote villains from heroes for a long time, with heroes largely being bright primary colors, and villains with secondary colors.
Think: Spider-Man, red and blue, vs. Goblin Green and purple. There are exceptions, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. Although Falcon was never what you'd call a villain, his first meeting with Cap was adversarial, and when they eventually became partners, Sam's costume went from green to red and white --- and Redwing was an actual red-tailed hawk Sam had trained to help him.
Partly, also, his initial costume color was pretty ugly.
Interesting side-plot: In real life, Captain America's adventures were still in print pretty much non-stop during the post-WW2 '50s, with many being reprints of his war adventures all over the world. Some new adventures were also written post-war, which was retconned in the Avengers issue in which they discover him frozen in a block of ice (a metaphor for Jack Kirby to take one of his creations off the shelf and put him into the Avengers).
That retcon created a blizzard of fan letters asking for an explanation as to why there were seemingly two Captain Americas --- one frozen alive, and the other carrying on as if he never disappeared.
The solution? There WERE two Captain Americas, and two Buckys -- one dead, and the imposter actually also being a super-soldier, rather than the Army camp mascot who was a pretty cringe-worthy sidekick. Stan always hated sidekicks.
Of course they met, fought, and the real Cap won with help from the Falcon --- partly because Sam recognized that this angry, racist fake Cap was not the real one based on Sam knowing what Cap's museum-piece uniform looked like (no stripes on the back, unlike real Cap's wrap around stripes).
In about three issues, Marvel neatly tied off many loose ends: they legitimized the Avengers' Cap, distanced themselves from some of the wartime and post-war depictions of other races (Japanese) and Cap's dialog in that era unsuited to 1960s sensibilities, they got rid of Bucky, like, twice, and cemented Sam as Cap's new partner, not sidekick.
Also, they made Cap seem a lot less churlish to those who remembered Peggy, but now saw Cap dating her NIECE 30 years later.
The MCU not only did absolute justice to the gestalt of the source, they astonishingly surpassed them visually and articulately.
I love watching you get the best taste of a product that's been aging in the barrel for over 80 years.
This movie still is the best MCU movie ever. Incredible story, incredible acting, incredible writing. Peak MCU.
Sam’s superhero name was on the file he showed Steve in the scene prior to the reveal of his wings.
Code name: Falcon.
Revealing GSP as the first bad guy on the ship was a shock to me. GSP is a legend.
" no, Nick doesn't die on us, right?" You are so adorable.🌹❤️🌷🩷🥀💗💝💖💞🌸
It is my movie favorite as well… I love watching reactions as people watch for the first time. Yours might be my favorite, great reaction, great editing. 👍
Another excellent reaction, Addie. Definitely can't wait to see what's next in September.
When Falcon is first appearance in the comics he was dressed in green and he didn't have a flight suit. In fact he met Captain America, Steve had already ended up switching bodies with the Red Skull (who at the time was wearing a mask before getting a permanent skull face) and being chased by the Marauders, until Sam found them hurt his side of the story and teamed up with him. And he also made friends with a red falcon named Red Wing that was experimented on due to The cosmic cube and Samuel Wilson (The Falcon) bonded with him due to his talent for falconry. And Sam was also experimented with the cube with telepathy over birds.
When he got his flight suit in white and red with red projectile feathers, it was due to Captain America requesting Sam's suit upgraded by Black Panther.
Winter Soldier is widely considered the best MCU movie.
RIP Garry Shandling. The Larry David Show was an incredible sitcom.
Plot wise, this is the best movie in all of the MCU. It’s relentless and packed with amazing twists and turns. Very excellent movie.
Imo
1. Infinity war
2. Endgame
3. Winter soldier
4. No way home
5. Ultron (unpopular opinion but I liked it a bit more than most). Especially now with wandavision adding more context.
@@TheIcemanthomas Endgame was mediocre storywise. It was just bombast and emotional. Plotwise it's 1. Winter Soldier 2. Iron Man 3. Infinity War
Movie viewers in different countries had slightly different versions of the list of things to catch up on in Steve’s notebook.
The UK version substituted “The Beatles” and “Sherlock.” For South Korea, “Dance Dance Revolution” was added. The list for viewers in Spain had “Rafa Nadal” and “Chupa Chups.” Australia: “AC/DC” and “Steve Irwin.” France “The Fifth Element,” and Germany “currywurst.”
2 MCU reaction videos in a week. Nice to see that you're very invested in the MCU. Keep em' coming!
I love this movie. It's a great example that "comic book" movie isn't a genre, and neither is "sci-fi." They're settings. You can have sci-fi horror, sci-fi, action, sci-fi drama, sci-fi comedy, sci-fi romance, and so on. Same with comic books and superheroes. This was a spy thriller mystery that happened to be set in a comic book world with superheroes.
In the scene when Pierce has Bucky "wiped," the bald technician/scientist with the beard and glasses is Ed Brubaker, the writer who co-created the Winter Soldier in the comics.
Winter Soldier is the Best MCU movie. Some are really good. But this is an awesome story crafted so well. Really liked your reaction. The scene with Peggy is a hard one to watch for sure.
she is one of the few people reacting to the mcu movies that actually remembers basically everyone from past movies, for example none of the others i saw remembered that senator from iron man 2
thank you for reacting 🙂this is one of my favourite movies, and it was enjoyable seeing you experience it for yourself 🙂
"I wish I could live in a world where they wound up together" 😏🤫
In the mid-70's, after the Watergate scandal, there were a number of movies centered on the idea of government conspiracies and people suddenly finding themselves unable to trust anyone around them. 'Winter Soldier' very consciously captured the mood of some of those 70's thrillers. In some shots of the Triskelion SHIELD headquarters, located on the Potomac River, you can see the Watergate Hotel in the background. A couple films of that genre even starred Robert Redford (who played Commander Pierce) - 'Three Days of the Condor' (where Redford plays a low level CIA agent who returns to his office after lunch to find everyone has been murdered and himself suddenly unable to trust anyone.) and 'All the President's Men' (a movie about the uncovering of the Watergate scandal with Redford playing reporter Bob Woodward.)
So glad you enjoyed this one - it's generally considered one of the best entries in the series. Great reaction as ever, Addie. Thanks for sharing.
A wonderfully emotive reaction! If you liked this one, I have a feeling you will enjoy Captain America: Civil War. These two are some of the darker, more drama oriented movies in the franchise. The flipside would be Thor: Ragnarok, much more light hearted but still amazingly written and I feel just as entertaining, but on a very different level. Amazing as usual Addie.
This is when genre starts to play a part in the MCU. Captain America: Winter Soldier is a spy thriller.
Finally, the one I have been waiting for you to react to. Glad you enjoyed it!
Howard Stark: Hydra won’t attack you with a pocket knife.
Winter Soldier: Ha!
One of the greatest sequels ever made, this film is up there with Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight and Empire Strikes Back.
The ending fight with Bucky is emotional as hell
Wow, I've never been this early.
This movie is still one of my favourites. It changed so much for the mcu
A fun fact about Bucky/the Winter Soldier is his theme, that high pitched sting you hear whenever he appears, is a remix of Bucky’s scream when he falls off the train in the first Captain America movie
Still love that quote on Fury's tombstone... "The Path of the Righteous Man..." from Ezekiel 25:17. *chef's kiss*
I love how this movie fits so perfectly in with the Marvel Agents of Shield series, a must watch.
First rule of Marvel. Nobody's dead, even when they are.
You have become for me the most interesting person who makes reactions, I have a great time in your company, thank you ))
Batroc (GSP’s character on the boat) is a normal non-powered human, but he’s at the peak of human potential. Imagine someone who’s an Olympian champion in all and every event. He doesn’t stand a chance against Cap (and is a bit of a running gag in the comics), but he can still last a few seconds longer than the other henchmen.
Don't know if someone mentioned it, but the directors of this said that it was written in it, but wasn't shown in the final cut, that Steve would go see Peggy in hospital every day that he was in town, even though she never remembers.
That was indeed Abed, Danny Pudi. The Russo Brothers co-created Community, and directed a lot of Arrested Development, so you'll see a few cameos and Easter eggs in their films. The SHIELD agent who refuses to launch the helicarriers was Simmons, the guy in the wheelchair in the debate episode. The guy at the Apple store was part of Derrick Comedy, the RUclips sketch group Donald Glover got his start in, and he showed up in a few Community episodes. The Dean shows up in Civil War, as does the stair truck from AD. And Shirley and Chang are both in Endgame.
1:23 Fun Fact: This list in Steve's book was different depending on what country it was being viewed.
Great reaction Addie! Thanks!! :)
My favorite MCU! Been waiting semi-patiently for you to arrive. 😂
Alot of people don't realize that this was more of a spy movie, than a super hero movie and, in my opinion, it's all the more better for it.
This is one of the best MCU movies ever! Glad you got to see it!
This is honestly my favorite Marvel movie. I'm currently totally burnt out on Marvel, but this one will always have a special place in my heart. It's so slick, focused, unique and emotional. Love that old school spy flick style they went for, including casting a veteran of this genre as the bad guy (Redford). Also, while I sort of liked cap in the first movie and Avengers, this one is where he really grew on me, as he wasn't just the honest soldier or the fish out of water. Here he gets his own character arc, about adapting to the new world, while still staying true to his long standing principles.
This movie and the next are the highlights of Phase 2.
Wow Addie, you're really whipping thru the MCU movies. Well, you've reached one of the high points. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
This was a lot of people's favorite MCU film. All the Captain America films were great.
"How in the world is he alive?"
Rule #1 of comic book-based media: Unless you're a bystander, death is merely a temporary inconvenience nine times out of ten.
When this movie came out I was in the habit of waiting until Saturday morning to see a movie in the theater. But at the time of this specific release I was temporarily unemployed (it was just my boss and I and he was very sick), and realized I could go see it Friday morning instead. I rarely got phone calls in those days, so I didn't bother turning off my phone from vibrate. However, my former employers decided those two hours were the perfect time to request some old files I had copies of, and they called and texted me five times while I was sitting there in the theater...
When Garry Shandling's character got arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D. or FBI Agents I so think it would've been more funny if RDJ/Tony Stark had been there with them as the agent with smirk on his face there to arrest him.
Captain America's greatest super power is his popularity. In the old Marvel RPG his popularity was Unearthly (100). If you need an idea of how high that is, Thor's strength, endurance and fighting skill are also Unearthly (100). Cap's popularity is epic. That's why the director of SHIELD along with all of HYDRA couldn't convince the good guys that he was corrupt. He's too well loved.
I’m jealous that you will be watching the rest of the MCU for the first time. While they might not be Oscar award winning, they all bring action, excitement, humor, and Aton of entertainment. Enjoy the ride.
This is such an amazing movie & remains of my favourite films in the entire MCU to date. I especially love how this film was a perfect showcase of Black Widow's skills, & showed what makes her one of the most badass heroes on Earth.
Natasha has always been one of my favourite MCU characters, but she's often overlooked in Avengers films in favour of more powerful heroes like Iron Man and Thor - it was great to see her in a Spy/ Political Thriller where she could acc reach her full potential.
Not to mention, as much as I love the amazing sci-fi world of the MCU, it's great to see more grounded stories every so often.
I think my favorite comment on this movie is from Alan Seawright, of Cinema Therapy, "They snuck a '70's paranoia thriller into my comic book movie."
16:08 Addie's BEST reaction on this, or any other video. PERIOD.
love this one
21:10 - "That's Abed from Community, right?" Yeah, if you didn't know, 'Winter Soldier' was directed by the Russo brothers Anthony and Joseph - and they were directors/producers on 'Community'.
To this day, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is still my favorite (non Avengers) movie in the MCU. If you take out the comic book super hero element it’s essentially the same exact movie. So much to love.
You have arguably the best action choreography in the MCU, the best hero theme (apart from the Avenger’s theme), the best plot twist(HYDRA), ScarJo’s best look (imo), legendary actors (Jackson and Redford), the coolest post credits scene (the introduction of Wanda), since Iron Man2… I could keep going. I’ll always love this movie!
The whole of SHIELD is not Hydra. Hydra infiltrated and grew within SHIELD for years, but there are genuine Agents/employees in SHIELD who are not Hydra and do not have their fascist beliefs. Glad you enjoyed the film. It's my favorite MCU movie, and one of my favorite movies period.
Sam Wilson is one of my favorite MCU characters. Dude steps up to the plate 100% of the time without fail.
1 of my all time fav MCU films. Lovely reaction as always.
this movie is one of my favourites out of all the marvel movies.
also I'm so excited for you to meet wanda!!
