Making mistakes is very hard on us painters it puts us in a bad place for the next job but in my experience if you can get through it and learn from it like you said it makes you a better painter. Cheers for the content..
A lot of people wouldn't even post this up as they want to keep their 'I never make mistakes' reputation so kudos to you Gunny for being the better man, it's ok making these mistakes but it's another thing if you know how to fix it as of course you did and it sounds like it came out great and that's all that matters 👏👏👍 John UK
When you're at the level of a painter is one thing, but when things Blow up in front of you. It's knowing what to do to correct. That's called skilled trade. Good video!!
From my experience and what works for me is doubling or 50% extra the candy amount so I don't have to do more than 2 coats of candy also I take an extra cup of untinted (regular) clear for the unblended area
I work in Norway and we also getting warrantie job from Mazda in the body shop.I am using Spies Hecker hi tec and yes it is so difficult to blend out the silver/pink base colour for these mazdas..I have paint a lot of these red fricking cars and is a lot stressful for the painter!!you did great job I am watching you before I become a professional painter!!I was using Ppg for 3 years with no problems at all.the olnly think with hi tec I am using the 1/3 of the time for the same job..try this 8131 Ppg clear coat for normal jobs !!You are the gunman!!keep up the great work!!
If the blend panel dusts red when sanding, sometimes I will spray one coat of tinted clear all the way to the end to make up for what was sanded off during the prep. ( I spray standoblue and I think the candy clear in my system is weaker than PPG as far as it’s dye concentration) I don’t think you have to worry about loosing your chemical bond with the clear coat my understanding is that takes about 24 hours after a full bake. Although I would never wait that long.
Hi mate 8:00 that's a ppg procedure. 3 coats of tinted clear then a bake . It's a really good idea too, it will reduce the chance of solvent boil with 5 coats of clear. I love painting crystal soul red
I know with sikkens I think the pot life is 48 hours for the mid. That ground coat drifts super bad with solvent idk about water base, but that ground I drop coat that just to get that Blottie out of my ground. Looks good to me keep up the good work
Nice vedio and that mistake as you say was not a mistake.. it came out the right way it was to come out..we are human and need to be easy on our self at times ..stress kills us fast..so easy on your self bro..it's what I do..God is good is why you are the way you are
Just painted this colour today nightmare of a colour to blend out 1st time using tinted clear coat been painting cars over 20 years and still learning..
It's not that you're not thinking, quite the opposite. You're practiced enough to have the techniques down pat and willing to try some variation. Doesn't take much deviation to end up with an unexpected result. Still a million times better than Mazda ever does. 10000hrs makes for mastery, I'm guessing you're a 'bit' beyond that mark.

Hell yea brother 🤘 i see it as life is letting you know your human we all make mistakes, especially when your under the pump from the work place. Im with you tho jst doesnt seem right putting 4/5 coats over on a panel. Can lay 2 coats on a bonnet n still get solvent pop n problems in end result. Awesome vid brother 👊
I had a bit of a mishap with my latest project, painting when I shouldn't have been but had to to get the job done. Real life struggles what they are thanks for showing us when it doesn't all go right.
Its definitely hard to stay focused 100% of the time. Ive been painting for 25 years and still make a stupid mistake sometimes. As the days go by its easy to stop paying attention and miss something when you're doing the same thing day after day
I love doing the 46V in RM but what I do is cover the blending parts wen I lay down the ground and oley blend with the ink and that has worked well for me this far..... But thanks bro great video
Hello" I love this color, I was looking for a red for some accent stripes, but after seeing this color, it makes me want to rethink the whole paint scheme, in your other video it says you would not paint this on a daily driver, no matter what color I paint my 4 by 4 truck it's going to get scratched, I was wondering if there's any type of top coating that could make it much more durable? I wish I could paint it this color and dip my whole truck in polyurethane like a Cedar countertop no scratches Just intentions, lol
Feel you pain!! I had to repair my wife's bumper as she hit a badger! Did it all on my drive and when it came to painting it was the middle of the day and red hot. Got the bumper out of the sun and got the base coat down (BMW sparkling graphite) which was a little tricky as still warm. When it came to clear the sun had caught up with me and on the larger sections I just couldn't get it to flow. So AHH needs a flat and polish. Plus side is no badger damage!!
i prefer the systems that use base coat on both ground and top then standard clear like the 008 in standox and w23 octorol (clear binders) had ford focus in candy red today after ground coat down it was 1 top coat as colour was close then 2 clear coats, 41v different story in solvent, lol
I’ve always done 2-3 coats tinted and then followed straight up with last coat of untinted clear and then bake neber has an issue when I sprayed enviro. Rumor has it that you can put the dye into the wetbed and make it more of a tri coat but also heard won’t have the same depth as it does as a candy does
Tint coats are the worst. The results look great but the time it takes to do your base, tinted clear, flash bake and then clear again really takes the wind out of you.
a few years ago you mentioned you might be making a top clearcoat video hope you do but can you mention a few here im in Canada also what do you think of medium solids take a top clear

Hey champ drop the 136 clear for you candy and use 527 sprint clear heaps less build 10 min bake then 136 clear for you final clear coat have a crack at it 🤙
With base coat, just when I think I have good coverage, I don't stop when I should, if I have coverage, I NEED TO BLOODY WELL LET IT FLASH OFF and leave it alone
My rule of thumb lately rather it be candy or whatever. Is not to rush things, got this from a movie " slow is smooth, smooth is fast". That's the mindset anyway, doesn't always work lol. PPG and their damn clear for the mid coat, I remember Ford RR being that way, looks great but yeah 4 coats of clear. It's really fun if you don't have a bake cycle. I use Debeer now and it's basically just tinted binder like on pearl white.
Not keen on all that clear to achieve the colour especially on a Mazda thats got a tight hazy orange peel original finish, I’ve got a Ocotral paint scheme and it has a tinted binder base coat that goes over the top of the colour so you can put regular coat of clear on it, and with the extra base coat on there it achieves the Mazda original finish very well
