  • In this video I'm going to go through "How I paint tinted clears"
    I'm painting Mazda's 41v and I would paint 46v the same way
    I am doing my spray out card at he same time as painting the car, and I will put a strategic hole in the bagging and measure the amount of coats of the tinted clear need to get my colour match. Tinted clears are also known as candy paint jobs. And this could be considered candy apple red. I will explain in the video about this.
    A tinted clear paint job is a type of automotive paint job that involves adding a subtle colour tint to the clear coat layer that is applied over the base coat of paint. The tinted clear coat layer creates a unique and distinct look by slightly altering the colour of the base coat while still allowing it to show through.
    This type of paint job is achieved by adding a small amount of tint to the clear coat layer, which can be adjusted to achieve the desired colour intensity. The tinted clear coat layer is then applied over the base coat of paint, which can be any colour.
    The result is a paint job that appears to change colour depending on the lighting and angle from which it is viewed. It creates a subtle effect that is different from a traditional solid colour paint job, and can add depth and dimension to the vehicle's appearance.

    Great job! Just found your channel, it's amazing! Your videos are so calming, it's easy to watch. A lot of times painters make videos and they don't do voiceovers, they just yell out in the booth while painting, and it's so noisy in there while you paint, gets frustrating to watch a long video. In your videos this problem doesn't occur.

      Thanks, I think some of my earlier videos are that way but thought they would be better woth voiceovers. 👍

    Hi Paul without these videos i would struggle even tho i've been painting for 47 yrs. I normally send customers with these colours elsewhere but i do a lot off my work for motortraders who will accept some colour difference. I'm getting more confident doing the 3 stage pearls the more i do. Whats funny i used to paint kandys back in the day when i did custom work i was much braver then .😄and they were full paint jobs no blending.

    • @paulphillipspaintwork
      @paulphillipspaintwork  Год назад +2

      I love doing custom work. I feel like (to a point) it can be much more forgiving. I feel like painting candy's give me more confidence doing these jobs and 3 stage pearls.
      I'm working on editing a 3 stage pearl white so that video will be up soon. Thanks. 🤘

    Hi Paul, lovely job again mate it came out looking mint the colour match and blend is spot on👌Thanks for the shout-out Paul and all the info you included has helped me understand a bit more about how you know how many coats of candy you apply, using a spray out car is the obvious way to do it I should have known🤦‍♂
    You've seen what I do in my little booth so I don't class myself as a painter but it's nice to know how you do the more technical side of the job even though I don't have to blend or match anything, thanks again Paul much appreciated 👏👍

      Thanks mate. 👍 I like to do my sprayout cards before hand but in a busy shop it not practical so doing them like this is way easier for me lol.
      Have you tried scratching the front of your wing and blending into it?

    • @JohnWD40TC02
      @JohnWD40TC02 Год назад +1

      Yeah I assume it's easier to do your sprayout cards first then you know before you start how many coats of candy is needed.
      I have thought about trying a blend in one of my wings, I may give it a try one of these days but I'm really enjoying trying all these different colours and clearcoats plus when I can afford it new guns as well, do you think you will be trying the Fuji MP-V8 Paul? really nice gun mate plus there is 25% off from SP Supplies atm👍

      @JohnWD40TC02 I'd love to, I don't have any money for a proper gun at the min. Just had to buy a newish car as my clutch just died lol.
      I might start doing some cheaper Amazon gun reviews tho and build up to the more expensive ones. There are some surprisingly good guns, If you don't mind the "non Brand"
      I think these could be good videos for DIY and newbies looking for quality guns at a reasonable price

      I think it's a great idea Paul, there must be a lot of people out there that want to try their hand at spray painting but don't want to sell a body part just to buy a gun, in fact only about 10mins ago I was saying just that to Petes Hobbies about trying some budget guns, here's the link take a look at my comments👍

    Great video Paul, straight in, no waffle and some great tips for newbies. I’m on cromax and use straight binder to give a wet layer for the Pearl tint to lay down. Is Standox you’re using w/b ? My cromax is so I can’t do a meaningful test on sprayouts till it’s dry as there’s a colour cast when wet. I was a bit worried about the bumper edge matching the near side 3/4 till I saw you matching sprayout. Also I have to have the “magenta” clear tint in solvent to mix into the acrylic clear, a pain as Dupont solvent is getting hard to purchase.
    Anyway great video , explaining as you go along in a real world environment.

      Hi, thanks I really appreciate it. Yes this is waterbase I believe its very similar to cromax as both companies are owned by Axelta. I do like to do spray outs in advance but it's not always ideal in a fast paced shop so this is a cool tip on "doing one on the fly"

    Our garage just started using Standox ???question what u think about wet on wet Paul??? New parts always come with a bit of damage like scratches on new bumpers, bad primer etc some comes just plastic like kia Hyundai Toyota .

    How does standox compare with glasurit 90 line?

    • @paulphillipspaintwork
      @paulphillipspaintwork  Год назад +2

      I like them both. I like the speed of Standox tho, put the base on in one visit and clear as normal. And the spectrometer camera is really good. I regularly get 97% colour matching
      Glasurit is brilliant. I like that it is more forgiving if you need to nib the base and the versatility of the paint scheme being able to mix solvent water and essentially 2k solid as well
