R-M I used to be a technical rep for a paint distributor in the UK and I repped this brand. It’s awesome. The onyx water and solvent Diamont base coat both brilliant paint systems.
I had to get a new skin on my driver's door (same "Soul Crystal Red" color) and it turned out PERFECT from Frank's AutoBody in Henderson, NV. Those guys are masters of paint and blending. They had done a Soul Crystal Red Miata before my 2019 CX 5 and had the BASF expert come to their shop and show them what to do. I like to call that color what it is: Candy Apple Red, like the old hot rodders called it.
Painted my Abarth this color recently. Played with it a little since it was a complete and my car. Added a little red gold pearl and what they call yellow orange pear pearl to the first stage. Then second stage I sprayed it with transparent silver metallic l, just a quick almost drop coat of that, not to change the color but to let the flakes settle on top. It definitely looks different than the standard, but you can still tell it's soul chrystal red. Fun color to do.
I have had some failure and some success with sickkens, not being able to match the colour with multiple coats of blood mid coat! With PPG this colour is a good match! Blending is fairly easy and even but matching bumpers is no problem. I don't know anything about RM water, however using their solvent base paint 15 years ago or so now was tricky at first but fantastic once I got the hang of it! RM solventborne was a very good product with great colour match and phenomenal clearcoat.
Interesting to see the way Chase sprays. It's similar to the way the robot painters spray the cars in Mazda's factories. In fact I saw a documentary where the robot painter's movements are based on the movements of one man who has perfect and consistent hand motion when spray painting.
It is always worth watching all of Jimmo's videos for that reason - every single painter has their own unique style. Things that others warn against work well for one person, and vice versa.
I spray R-M at the shop I spray at. Today I painted 46v for the very first time. I never have trouble with any other candies or tricoats, 42V, 505Q, 3R1... This gave me hell. I sprayed it like I would spray my other candies, the mid coat looked great and even, but the candy came out bloched. I was spraying 3 wet coats of candy which normally looks great on other candies. But noticing this had a shit tone of 80T toner in it I redid it and applied the candy as I would an affect coat instead. Worked. I’m spraying R-M waterborne btw.
Came here because I'm having the same issue lmao. Mine still came out blotchy with more reducer and basically drop coats. In hindsight, maybe I should've grabbed for a sata rp and treated it like clearcoat.....
im in college atm for car sprayer or what ever its called (my first language is not english), and im in love with it, its soo satisfying to see the before and after picture!
Exactly the video I was searching for. Just flawless is the explanation, and execution of the paint job. Such a beautiful color as sun light plays off of it. Day or night. Crap-Tom of work involved, but so worth it....💪🏼💪🏼🤤🤤
If any painters around Las Vegas or within a couple hours of Boise have this paint mastered, I have a door that needs repainting on my otherwise beautiful 2020 Miata RF. I had a random rock get kicked up and into my door by another car at 2,500 miles. I already had the dent fixed and the door repainted, but the shop didn’t get a great match. I need to find someone that’s got Soul Red Crystal figured out. I had to have cars to carry my kid around, then my grandkids. 3 months after I finally got the first car I’ve ever really loved and It’s gone from making me weak in the knees to sick to my stomach.
Eddie Gussler II good luck with rock chips. I’ve heard Mazda sprays that color really thin and chips have been a fairly big problem among recent models with this color.
Axalta 3wb Standoblue or Hi-tec is a 2 coat easy system for 46v . Undercoat pink color 1.5 coats .. and tinted clear 1-3 coats with intermediate flash off.. this is same process as 41v which has been in the market for many many years
Best video I've seen on being safe with candy, most painters will tell you put it on wet with a 75 percent overlap. But if your gun is off by a tiny bit, that method will create tiger stripping. This method is almost mistake proof.
Filiberto Barrera What your saying is a “Real Candy” this is a whole different way this is just a very light concentrate candy over a base that’s close to the color.. not a true candy with very few coats a real candy is 5-7 coats of candy over a base whole different situation
Yeah actually I had this problem today. My other candies I normally spray wet and they come out no tiger striping. I’m using waterborne which is a little more forgiving than solvents. This candy had so much red toner in it when I sprayed it like the other candies, oh my god, but I redid it right away. Backed off a bit and put it on medium wet, worked great. Lesson learned, but it was a horrible time for me LOl
Brock Daniel I agree, real candy is in the clear, what he’s spraying is the same as what I spray and it’s just a tinted clear base coat, then you put regular clear over it.
Wow! That is the best red out there right now, it catches my eye every time in traffic. Because of the extreme care and amount of steps, about how much more does this cost for a color change than say, a more standard metallic red? Great content keep it up!!👍🏁
I was quoted $900 just for the paint to do my own small car. Reds are expensive, and this paint is particularly special. I can't wait to paint my car with it (myself). Wish me luck!
Salute from malaysia!!! I'm driving mazda cx3 with that soul red.. really great painting of that bonnet but the greatest is when the finish product is 100% match existing colour on fenders n doors.. thats the most difficult when come to repainting certain parts of cars.. well done sir!!!
I have a 2018 Mazda6 with this Soul Red Crystal Metallic. It is beautiful. My only complaint is the excessive stone chips on my hood. I started getting them almost immediately. I am always careful not to follow big construction truck too closely. Got them any way. Had it to do over, I would have gotten that midnight blue color instead.
Would you paint a new front door off car in this color to save double handling. Or seam seal door, wet on wet primer whole door and paint inners when spraying out color card. Would save bad color when fitted and damage on fitment dramas. I think it's smarter.
Am about to start my spray project when the weather gets warmer. would you answer a question please? What difference does the base coat color make? If I use light grey or silver or bright silver?does it show through to the final coats Please?
A BASF manager told me they wouldn’t introduce R-M into Australia as it would kill Glasurit sales within a year. Both R-M and Glasurit are the same paint just with different labels. Same as Spies Hecker and Standox. ( used to technical rep Spies Hecker also ). Painters swore Standox was better, but it’s the same paint . We even borrowed tinters from another distributor often if we ever got low and swapped labels. Same with R-M too. 🤣 . But as a system though, wherever you are, if the opportunity arises for your shop to use R-M, take it. Waters easy as to use, lays down great, and the clear coats are fantastic. Plus it is actually cheaper than Glas.
I have the cx9 signature in this color. It truly is an amazing color and have gotten so many compliments on it. But it is very very difficult to keep scratch free. I hate that part.
You mean the clear coat is scratching. It shouldn't matter the base color if it's your clear that's scratching. Hopefully a quality clear was applied over your base.
@@bradleynelson5915on certain areas yes, it was the clear. My hood has some scratches now, and a shop told me they couldn’t completely buff them out due to them being deep and since it’s a tri color paint, they suggested painting my whole hood and blending the fenders/ bumper. I’ll compound and polish for now
Couple of questions..1. Why wouldn’t you seal or at least gray basecoat the top of the bumper too? 2. Why in the heck wouldn’t you immediately take the goundcoat up to the back edge of the hood?
been painting for 6 years but havent reached that far much professional wish if these guys teach me some little more technics kkk just kidding, thats super would love to work as partners guys thumbs up
I'm really curious how and/or find a high gloss pearl white paint that color shifts to electric blue only with no purple or other colors? Also, have you seen a pearl silver that color shifts to black pearl?
Interesting spay techie for sure!! I have tried to do it that way without the triggering at the end of each stroke and I ended up with runcity on my hands!! The runs were actually on the car I was painting not my hands for some of the people out there! Anyway, to do that good of a job shows you that there is more then one way to do this type of work so for the guy that is gunna jump up and be all ooooo he's doing it wrong!!! Just shut it down cuz nobody wants to hear it bucko!! Lol :) k I feel better now, and awesome job on that car man looked like glass!!
Times are a changing, the red candy like that is infallible for the most part with solvent. But solvent is old technology going the way of lacquer. With state of the art water, forget about gooping up the fenders with paint. Paint the hood off and do the little header if your nervous, other wise just drop the hood in, it will be fine. Plastic bumpers always show a little off cause of substrate, even if you paint with steel panel next to it. Thats why factory never matchs 100% Hood to fender is angled so the color shift will make it appear perfect. Sealers edge covered with wet bed can cause issues too, Hood on stand, 2000 sanded prime, clean, 2 wet coats of base back to back, wait to set, 2 wet coats mid red coat back to back, set up, then 2 clear coats with set in between, half the time as with solvent , coverage with 2 coats, even red over white. Less is better, if I have have a scratch on my hood like the size of a quarter, I don't want 1/3 of my body be painted.
Always keep air coming out the gun . Even between walking around the car . Helps keep the tip from clogging and also keeps the paint spray consistent. That paint dryer thing was pretty cool though but in the sun that new paint either looked too deep of a red or too pinkish of a red . Should of blended into more panels and compounded the piss out the whole car , washed it and then cleared the entire car again . Let sit in sun for 3-5 days after a 24 hr dry time in the booth .
Who the fuck leaves a car in the booth for 24 hours to dry then sits it out in the sun for 5 days? Insurance companies don’t pay enough to keep a car that long.
So it is possible? How would a full respray be for this or a front end? Or if you wanted a different colour with hard wearing paint that doesn't chip when you look at it? Is there some way you could get a really hard clear coat done to protect from stone chips or do you need paint protection spray/film.
you make 46V colors very wonderful, you have a formula that does not allow me to ask if I am having difficulties in this color, please help me give thanks

Muy buen trabajo, pero lo único que no han preguntado. Es qué tuvieron qué difuminar los guardafangos por que el color no les quedó exacto y las manos de barniz siempre son 2.
That has to be the best looking red I've ever seen on a vehicle in my 43 years on this planet.
AMEN BROTHER! That's the color of my 2019 CX 5 GT Reserve 2.5 L. turbo. "Candy Apple Red"
Wait till you see in real life in the night...that red Mazda does is just magical.
Saw that color on a Mazda today. Had to stop and ask car owner for the color name!😆 "Soul Red Crystal"
I am 82, looking to spraying the panels on my spy racing quad this winter.
Which planet? 🤔
You guys nailed it, Mr Mazda Soul Red Crystal would be impressed.
The equipment, the color, the artist, and the sun = Like Robbie said......... best red on earth ! Chase wow great work
My current project motorcycle will get this and pearl white can't wait. Hope that it pops like candy soul red crystal!
The way that colour pops when he shoots the clear is just epic, I wish I could get a finish like that when spraying
Sure everyone does

Super tight hella clean ...did an excellent job 4 shure
Someone else said it and yes he does have a lot of the same motions as the the robots in the factory when they spray this color. Impressive

What state?
She put the lime in the coconut Arizona.

Nice job Chase. So, hard to find a good body shop where I live.
omg... what a nice paint job!
Another showroom finish! Man you can throw it down!
Extraordinary!!! Now I need to see how they spray on Eternal Blue my favorite Mazda color!
How is blue your favorite ..🤦♂️

Crazy great paint. Not much of a car but great paint colour and application
THat is gorgeous! Amazing work! I'm looking to paint a guitar like this. How should I go about acquiring the paints needed to do this?
That turned out beautiful....
What was the clear being shot. Came oit beautiful!
I love that spray gun. Awesome Job!
Amazing paint job 🎉
